i remember getting a phone call from my dad's pal after the watt o grady fight. he was in jim's dressing room. he said, "remember that punch i showed you? watt punched o'grady onto his head - not a headbutt. a PUNCH. i tried it a few weeks later in a fight when a guy was rubbing his head too close to me POP! a double dunter, punch his head towards your lowered forehead - NOT a headbutt, no thumbs, just a punch and ricochet. i love that move!
Should've been ruled a knockdown there in the first minute, even if it was partially caused by a slip. Watt hit him with a right hook and Buchanan went down--that's a legitimate knockdown.
Buchanan was half-smirking at Watt during the intros. He obviously liked his chances going into this fight.
Jimmy Murray was jim watts real manager. Sure buchanan was the real deal, a league of his own but jim watt was still a scottish legend. Jimmy murray was a legend in our household, loudmouth? Quietest gut you'd ever meet but still a star. I like the 3 of them.
@MeltdownCity9, Watt is one of the most underrated British boxers of all time as far as I'm concerned. Buchanan is a definite top five for me (along with 'Kid' Lewis, Wilde, Lennox Lewis and Welsh) but Watt would make the low end of my top twenty.
blimey. I remember this so well (or rather, I don't! it's such a long time ago and I was about 10 at the time) Jim Watt had a very annoying loudmouth manager (can't recall the name) who I really wanted Buchanan to punch. Watt was a very good fighter and turned out better than lots of people thought he would, but Ken Buchanan was the real deal in every respect.
