  • looks like a 3d game. and that was in the 80s.

  • used to love this as a kid!

  • dat bass

  • Uh the home port's quality is extremely lazy, it's just like something for the NES...

  • This game looks almost as stunning as it did when I played it as a kid in the arcades. Timeless classic. They even had a semi-hydraulic chair to make it feel even more real...but After Burner's full hydraulic chair and motorized simulation was an unforgettable experience. The 80's arcades rocked.

  • I love this game one of my fav arcade games when I was a kid, was always pissed that there was no decent home version (Master System Version was actually better than the Megadrive) but I now have it running in M.A.M.E on my Wii, was actually thinking of doing a video about it.

  • It's awesome how the camera pans from top-down view to a chase cam. Amazing!

  • Very nice playthrough of ThunderBlade!

  • This game needs a Wii Virtual Console Arcade release!

  • lol the music is so soft. I actually prefer how the main theme sounds on the consoles.

  • I wondered what the arcade version looked like, way better than the genesis sequal... I'm buying the arcade cabinet soon and I might not destroy it for a mame machine lol

  • omg the graphics actually look amazing on this version. was this version ever ported onto a console?

  • just compair the c64 version to the atary st version, the c64 version nearly equals the arcade one,the atari st version is a stop and motion game..seems as if sega didnt like atari

  • @KingCrimson82 The home computer versions for the Atari ST, C64 etc wasn't programmed by Sega. They were produced, by US Gold - a company known for a poor track record when it came to converting arcade games.

  • @JayArgonaut ok,i remember in this times i had no relations to this,to compair arcade to home version.so the us gold order paper always was like a worshiped toys r us order cataloge.but still the c64 version is awesome, for real ! good convertion of the early 3d effeckts.so us gold, just became lazy.

  • this still is a dream of a video game, its amazing how they fixed the 3d problem, its nearly the same technic as todays wii home 3d grafics.

  • The first boss music on this game later became the first stage theme for Super Thunderblade.

  • sega knew how to sprite scaling like no other, this cam from a 87 machines, ninetdo couldn't even macth this with the'yre gba.this is insane.btw i like the shinobi esque music to.this ;looks like very early 32 bit.sega was ahead of it's time, also with they're home consoles, just a fact.

  • I just found a picture of me playing this in an arcade as a little kid. I must have been 3 or 4 in the picture. Gamer 4ever!

  • OH, I remember this game! I was sooo into this game. I played the sit down version at the arcade at the mall all through my high school years. I, a teenage girl, used to put grown Army men from Ft. Rucker to shame at it! ;)

  • They really do need to make a modern version of this.

  • This game was way ahead of its time!!!

  • Sega not only made legendary games the game industry had to measure up to but they also made great music! The best music a video game could ever have!

  • @bisexualbuffthug SST Band was incredible. . .they had two true talents: Namiki and Hayashi. . .

  • the sound track to this game is amazing let alone for the era this is really good stuff

  • It was so ridiculously easy to doge enemy fire, but the environmental traps like the caves in level two is what always messed me up.

  • Is it me, or does the bass kick sound fiercer in this video than in the original version of the song?

  • This was such a brilliant game on so many levels. Man I wish I owned the original in my home.

  • Does anyone know who the developers of the game were?? It's my favorite Sega arcade game, and I'd love to know!

  • @dave4shmups I think this game was designed by SEGA-AM2.

  • I loved this game in the arcade...

  • This is impressive stuff, much better than one would have expected from the home ports. Sega was really on a roll in the 80's.

  • Thunder Blade was never brought home in arcade-quality form to consoles. The ONLY close, arcade-like home version was for the Sharp X68000 computer in Japan, which was sort of like Japan's equivalent of the Amiga, only more powerful. Thunder Blade on X68000 is like 75% of the arcade in graphics, which is far better than any other home version, including Master System, Amiga, PC-Engine and Super Thunder Blade on Genesis. SEGA needs to bring this home properly, like Galaxy Force II on PS2.

  • It really is mind blowing how far superior the arcade versions of games were to their home console counterparts, the difference now is non existant, and yet whenever they compile classic games on never consoles they always use the inferior console version

  • Yeah, I hate that. I wish they would use the arcade versions.

  • was this the arcade game with the control stick?

  • Yes. This is a game to play with a control stick.

  • oh man, this is the first arcade game i ever beat, i've been trying to find the name for years! thanks!

  • Damn! this version is cool!!!!
