yes thats correct. with no load, engine stopped. ,thats probably why its called "start o matic" they were the farm in the village to have electric light, amazing at the time.
I'd like to see the thing being started up. It's always a bit interesting seeing someone starting up one of these old oil engines. Have you tried any other fuels? I bet it would run quite nicely on straight vegetable oil.
back in the 50s we had a start o matic,When mother did the iorning , she had to keep a light on , so the engine didn`t keep stopping when the iorns thermostat switched on and off.
Nice engine! Runs fast.

This engine would probably run on veg oil never tryed it though. It was designed to run on paraffin or diesel originally.
Unfortunatly the engine has been removed from it's trolley for storage so i cant show the start up.
Cheers!

I have one of these engines, mine is an 8HP this looks a bit smaller is it a 5 HP?
Nice looking engine, sounds like its running pretty fast?

yes it's 5HP. This was the first time we ran it since a rebuild. It was running fast after some adjustments it runs quite a bit slower now.
Cheers
