I really wish they'd recorded more together. Bjork's voice is beautiful whatever she's singing, but the solo stuff never quite tears me apart the way the Sugarcubes do. God, they were a great band.
I Imagine the band wanted clip to be as strange and eclectic as the label would allow...truly avant-garde pioneers of late 80's early 90's music seane ... anybody who thinks this is weird & outragous needs some perspective .. remember that Biork would occasionally defecate on stage in her early punk band days ..I kid you not!!
i feel so sorry for people that shut out the Sugarcubes before they've seen the light. i almost did that myself - Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week! just left me scratching my head and i almost never listened to it again after hearing the first three or four tracks. but something drew me back, and after another listen or two i was Saved. =)
@mku17ra Funny stumbling upon this -- I was belting this song out in the car just this morning. I think it's one of Bjork's better vocals, actually. Works with the sweet spot (ie quirks!) of her range. One of my biggest vocal heros : ). But true, she certainly did explore and find a stronger set of vocal tools after she went solo. I tend to try ignoring the spoken word guy's voice as much as possible on SugarCubes tracks...
@rebelmars I meant that in a sense of her finding her own path. She explored a wider range of eclectic influences on her own records than anything previously done with this band. To me listening to her with this band is the equivalent of seeing a lion in a local zoo instead of the wild planes of africa. She has proven that her natural habitat is to push the limits of what she can do musically. Don't get me wrong, this band obviously tried to do that. But not as far as Bjork has done on her own.
I wish I had never watched this video - now I'll forever have these idiotic images seared (or boiled) into my mind when I listen to this beautiful song.
Sugarcubes is a band, not a woman, the music they created TOGETHER! was a wonder struck time in my life.
I have not listened to a Bjork record, I just love the fact the band was there putting their love of music into it, so sweet and beautiful. I do admit to the mesmerizing effect Bjork had on me. I sat at a table in the basement of the Concert Hall in T.O. and ate spaghetti with the Sugarcubes at 3 am, OTHERWORLDLY comes to mind. That imprinted me for the rest of my life...thankyou.
@villagemeat if you like Sugarcubes, you should at lease consider listening to Bjork's album Dbut. It has a lot of the same charm. Her song Venus as a Boy is marvelous!

Bjork is a most peculiar creature, thumbs up if you agree.

Their greatest song by far. And Einar's vocal actually helps Bjork's soar through the complete and utter contrast. Brilliant.

Thank god Björk found her own voice after this band. No offense to hard die fans, but this is really awful. Both musically and visually.
