  • if your cellphone put out enough electromagnetic radiation to make the tinfoil spark, we'd all be dead from brain tumors by now. cellhpone != microwave oven.

  • Total bullshit. That pan appears to be on a ceramic type cooktop. You can see the "gasoline" if that's what it actually is, starting to evaporate and be affected by the heat in the video BEFORE it magically bursts into flame.

  • Filling your vehicle @ any station is a lot more dangerous than you would think. There are numerous methods of igniting the fuel vapors, such as static discharge from your clothes as well as using a cell phone in proximity to the fuel vapors. It's not a myth. There have been many cases of documented cell phone use causing gas station fires.

I like New Jersey's system: no one is allowed to fill the tank except the people who work at the filling station, who must undergo specific training.

  • I concur with Zool. Also, Mythbusters is very unscientific and NOT the final word. I will say that they are entertaining however and shine the light on a few things but that's about it.

  • dude are you doing this on carpet?

  • 80% petrol vapor is not combustible - because it is a saturated environment and does not catch fire. Too high or too low vapor content does not catch fire - but would you risk it. Even in this video - they have mentioned that it might take many calls.. the case is that the petrol that they have used has to start vaporizing at a higher rate for the fire to get generated which IS the case in most gas stations as the flow rate and quantity is higher.

  • @Updehill

gas station fires increased as soon as people started filling their gas tanks.

in the 70's a lot of people used CBs with out any problems, these radiated more power than a cell and yes the mike switch did create a small spark.

Our sun when over head generates about 1KW/m2, a lot more than a cell phone...

  • it had nothing to do with the phone, lol

energy to ignite gas would have burnt his hand,

  • The best question ever asked on this subject Is........

HAVE GAS STATION FIRES AT THE PUMP, INCREASED OR DECREASED SINCE THE USE OF MOBILE PHONES???????

  • like if you use ur phone at gas stations

  • yes believe it or not, ur still making a spark....

  • LOL thats really safe, petrol in a fucking milk container.... yeah real safe...i

  • i dont need phona to ignite a fire..i just need me coz im too hot!!!

  • the stuff that he put on the foil made it effect the foil and in 10 min it will catch on fire !!!!!

  • @Stupidashellvideos when you say plain do you mean like, a prairie? or just something regular and uninteresting?

  • So what your saying is if our car is a crushed ball of foil which has been bathed in petrol and is floating i.e not earthed, we can't use our phone near it ? Wow your a genius. The mobile phone at a petrol station theory is a joke.

  • Awesome video, but maybe a different song, just my 2 cents

  • fake

  • @GigsVT idiot

  • @GigsVT fake "fake"

  • holy shit dude good experiment.

  • i think this is what happens when you dial satans phone number.....666-666-66 loool

  • Ghost Rider?

  • 30 bucks credit after

  • wow really. thats alot of static electricity your building up by keep on hitting those buttons. good job on feeding rummors its fine to use your phone just make sure u get rid of the built up static on your clothes before u pump your gas i touch the side of my car before i pump gas. this will realease all the energy in your clothes that mostly is causes by getting in and out of cars, NOT CELL PHONES!

  • This like the microwave oven..

  • oh so light of phone makes gas to make fire and even explotion

  • myth buster has proven that this cellphone thingy is busted!!! static signal from phones are not enough to ignite a gasoline. its a failed attempt.

  • @forestowl03 cellphones does not produce " static signal" .

  • use matches its cheaper

  • HOW DID THE FK!!!!!! IT HAPPENED????!!!

  • @andrew98us He used his cellphone to build up static electricity

  • @SwedenZooFilm Thats nice though when u are in woods or something

  • wow im going to go make some calls at a gas station tomorrow right next to my gas tank

  • That gas is so thick?

  • @dcool96 yeah i believe that gas is so tick..it takes higher flashpoint for it to produce vapor

  • CONGRADULATIONS!!! try using that at the outdoors when camping...now thats another way to start a fire. xDxDxD

  • no maaaa.. awesome

  • Its the fumes that light he had a match out of the shot and the fumes eventually lit, this is bs!!!

  • Nonsense.

    Why no explanation?

    Because it's BS.

  • hey guys i tryied it ty it never work plz leave never join youtube and naver even make a channel good day sir

  • Nonsence! mythbusters put a mobile phone in a room with 80% petrol vapour and rang a mobile.... NOTHING HAPPEND. Its just an urban myth... Its down to static charge on your clothing that causes the ignition.

  • @Updehill OF COURSE IT IS CLOTHING CAUSE STATIC CHARGE

  • @Updehill yes dude, and no buttons were pressed, it just rang, a ringing fone wont cos a spark, pressing a button on ur fone has that potential...

  • @Updehill yes dude, and no buttons were pressed, it just rang, a ringing fone wont cos a spark, pressing a button on ur fone has that potential... pressing buttons on any hand held electrical device has the potential for starting a fire....

  • @leviathon74 pushing buttons on a phone? hmm ok but i have no buttons i have a touch screen LoL

  • @Updehill Spark in the Keyboard with gas fume?

  • Well the video looked true enough XD your just all arseholes, starting a yammering running commentry over a video. :S

  • This isn't fake. When enough static electricity builds up and discharges, it will ignite the fumes coming from the gas. The foil is just a conducter to gather the energy required to ignite the flame. If you touch a metal part of your car after a phone call, and before touching the pump, you can easily prevent this from occuring. And people that really want proof, search around. Dumbasses can make anything come true.

  • Yes this is definately bullshit. Most likely there is a heat source under the pan. That or he used a gas match to light is from above and edited out those frames.

  • if they really want ppl to realise of how dangerous it really is to turn your phone on at the gas station they would have made a public demonstration of cellphones igniting petrol... cause almost everyone does it and shouldnt that be really dangerous.. on average how many ppl go to the station with phones on? thats freaking dangerous... dont you think they would have think its a serious issue?

  • I bet u had an electric ignitor above the camera so u can't see it then u pressed the switch just as u made the last call

  • its true anyway u can make popcorn whit it

  • the reson that cell fone art allowed at gas stations is becuse they interrupt the counter thing

  • Anyone who thinks Cell phones start fires at gas stations is an idiot.

  • I call BS

  • Dats not smoke. That's the blue flame

  • Fake, but NOT static electricity.

1:40, back right side of the tin foil, an instant before it ignites there's a small cloud of smoke forming, obviously had something back there heating up the tin foil.

The first frame showing flames you can tell the fire starts at the back of the tinfoil.

  • Fake an Gay!. Lol no seriously this is absolute bullshit. I recommend getting an education if you believe this

  • slow motion made it less believable. you my good sir are a time wasting bitch

  • many people do not know the nature of electromagnetic effects on metals. people make the mistake in thinking this is the same as a gas station fire but this is not the case. This is a current day version of of Marconi's first radio signal experiments where he had two metal pieces in a vacuum and a radio signal passed trough it in order to create sparks. people why say this is fake simply lack the the intelligence or education to understand what is happening here.

  • @zool201975 Way to sperg out, Captain Autism.

  • @BrianMcD86 well thank you I guess. I will just see it as a very illiterate form of acknowledgement of my knowledge. its not hard though Brian you can pick up a book sometimes. they wont burn from mobile phones so they are safe. its fun too and better then wasting time by acting like a troll and showing how frustrated you are about something no one knows or cares about.

  • @zool201975 or in other words, a microwave oven can't heat food? :)

  • @OliviaSST Nop lol. No I only mentioned metals because they used a metal in this experiment.

the micro wave mostly affect the water in your food. a little experiment you can do to see it is by properly letting two leaves dry out. when they are really dry soak one in water again and put it in the microwave for a few seconds. its going to be warmer or even hot. the dry leaf will hardly heat up or at all in the same time in the microwave.

just don't keep them long in there though.

  • @zool201975 Microware ovens primary act on water and fats..they generate a wave which causes the molecules in these items to align and then vibrate in ie become excited and we know what the result is of excited molecules. But it has an effect on metal as well..producing an electrical charge in the metals which when so charged can discharge, particularly across a sharp edge. But my argument all along here has been that the energy created by the antennae (radio wave energy) is probably

  • @zool201975 best comment ive ever read on here

  • Just ground your self to metal to prevent a build up of static..

  • thats fucked up

  • static from your clothing will make a spark not a phone

its been proven that phones cant make a spark

    this vid is blatently fake

  • For you non believers, this is real. Its the same reason you should touch your car before pumping gas. It is to disapate any static electricity you may have built up. It not the radio/micro waves its the static. So be sure to use your fabric softner or YABANG!!! :)

  • u americans are so stupid.... thats phisics...

  • Exactly... "phisics"...Dumbass

  • ahahahahahahah yeah sure english is not my language so it's not a big deal if i write phisics instead of physics... it doesnt change 80% of u guys can be easily described as retarded there.

  • dude you guys are stupid you can do this they proved it on mythbusters dyh

  • BOGUS! A cell phone CANNOT produce a shock (FACT).

  • booooo watch after he says this will take alot of calls. he fast forwards the movie and you can see where he edited. just before it lites you can see his hand and lighter edited above his phone

  • fake

  • @AjabberWok Its fake huh? Why dont you just go pump some gas using your phone next to it. Have a great time! I'm sure you will!

  • @killersullo you sick ass son of a bitich

  • It is not the mobile phone that creates the fire, it is friction, caused by a mix of a material, such as nylon and whatever rays the mobile phone gives off.

    THIS VIDEO IS FAKE ! ! !

  • I believe this, Phones do give off Microwaves (From a Microwave oven, Duh), So in theory the microwaves could ignite the fuel.

  • this works!

  • FAKE... There is a heat source under pan. When gas has enough heat it flames. TOO SİMPLE...

  • Reminds me of school dinners lol

  • na it works i did it.

  • 1:25..glitch...its fake, it was switched at 1:25

  • Better name it:

Wasting the time of uneducated idiots. :)

  • its a micro shock that starts it

  • hEI KALAU TAK PERCAYA CUBA PI CALL TNGOK KAT STATION MINYAK BRU HANG MAMPUS TERBAKAR!!

  • its because of the phone radiation.

  • fake

  • No retard, ever heard of a thing called radiation?

  • I call bullshit on this one.

I just tried it for an hour, and nothing happened.

  • ???how in the???

  • i have never seen a warning not to use a cell phone while pumping. even if i did, i would assume that it's to keep you paying attention to what you're doing and not leisurely pumping your gas and what not. Also, did you see how close he had to get with the phone? so unless you're shoving your face into your gas tank to look inside i don't think anyone should be worried.

  • dude... this has happened to me.... he's not lying its no hoax. I recieved a call from my bro at a gas station while filling up my ride(who rarely calls and usually his calls r important) and i pick up, as soon as connection is established flames start pouring out all over the place. i freak out and grab the luckily nearby fire extinguisher and put it out soon enough. still my $5000 paint job and the door of my Porsche is ruined.... don't try it... could be devestating

  • See, here someone has experienced it.. he might be lying maybe not, but why would you like on a thing like this?

Anyway... if cellular phones won't have any dangerous effects on the gas station it won't be mentioned at all, and there will be no warnings for using it right?

I believe it's possible & don't really want to witness it.

  • Bullshit - it's a hoax, just like the other one where they pop popcorn with cell phones.

  • no this one is real, think about it, why do you think its illegal to use cell phones on a gas station

  • Please cite a law - in any jurisdiction - that makes it "illegal" to use a cell phone at a gas station. Just because someone was using a phone while pumping gas and a fire started that does not prove that the cell phone was the ignition point.

  • There is something in that crushed cooking foil.

  • Myth Buster's is a myth it self.

  • thank you master!!!

  • i saw this on brainiac. the caravan exploded i think

  • i know what happened here. While calling huge amount of radio waves were going trough foil with was gathering electric charge... it doesnt happen with car with is grounded, and even if itt does you would need milions, miliards of calls... so... Mythbusters are right. They busted it twice. BUSTED Period.

  • Ya well when I'm working in a gas station with 6000 gallons of gas under me, I really don't give a fuck what Mythbusters says. I'm not taking the chance. Becides those two dudes are movie special effects guys, wich hardly qualifies them to bust myths. And also... what if the phone in question malfuntions at the pump? Even the tiniest spark can set off the fumes.

  • Totally agree with this, we can't take chances on things like this. Even its "milions, miliards of calls" you never know which of those calls will spark.

  • I know how many of them will "spark" - zero. If you had a basic understanding of technology you would realize this.

  • So just because you're a deluded paranoid, that makes this a truth? I've used my cell phone many times while filling the tank. I am not concerned.

  • Hmm.

  • i know a gas station that will light up the night

  • whats the number of the fire?

  • @xtom1973 probably 666

  • @xtom1973 999

  • Too bad so many people watch Myth Busters or you might have actually had a chance with this one.

  • Ya, this doesn't really happen, Mythbusters disproved it.

  • that made my day!!!

  • Mythbusters already busted this one.

  • They only did 1 call for 1 test.

  • look up poping popcorn using cell phones and then tell me they not dagerous at the fuel pump!

  • that ones a trick they just stop and drop in popcorn and take ot the other

  • Popcorn can pop cellphones too! You'll believe that if you believed the other way around!

    Brainpan.

  • No seriously, look it up! It's on YOUTUBE for fuck's sake!

  • thats some scary shit real or not

  • my dad owns a gasstation and cell phones are always used at the pump.

basicly you need to call 100 people and talk for hours for even a chance for this to work

  • Still why risk getting that 1/100 chance xD

  • This is completely biased! He made a static battery with extra fuel to burn. The cardboard held gas and made extra fumes. The experimenter also tried many many times in their rigged test to get the desired result. Once again cell phones ARE safe at a gas station!

  • bullshit

  • Look ma, he built a battery for storing static electricity created by the electromagnetic field a cell phone puts off! See him charge it up until it has enough power to spark!!!

Want to see what it looks like when you hit it with real power? put some tinfoil in the microwave... and remember, it's putting out 1 to 2 watts of radio freq energy. a cheap microwave oven puts out between 800 and a 1000 watts of radio freq energy! and it takes a few seconds to get tinfoil to spark IN A MICROWAVE!

  • thast soem fucked up shit iam not useing my cell when i near gass agen :S

  • fake or not, better be safe than sorry, beside leave the goddamn phone for once, since the phone evolution, and we can't do anything without someone cracking/messaging/playing on their phone, beside some people even texting and walking, and you have to dodge them, shouldn't that be illegal to do?

  • FAKE there was just an ignition spark under neith

  • who's neith?

  • this just works by this way...

  • This is obviously fake. Mythbusters (on Discovery Channel) even tried to test this myth and there no way they could ignite the gas vapors with just a cell phone.

  • yes, once,i and my father in the gas station, one of your's employee call to him and nothing happend

  • i tried it and it worked! holy crap!

  • ur mom's tits are fake

  • all 3 of them

  • its not phones that cause gas station fires. its getting in and out of your vehicle causing static electricity. I hate people

  • just tried it and it worked, i put the cell phone in a pan with gas, called voice mail, i took a match and threw it in, and yep it exploded!

  • En cazadores de mitos en (discovery channel) hicieron tu misma prueba y es falso!!!!

  • Dude cell phones Dont cause gas fires. Static Electricity does. that is suck BS fake,

try it. it wont work man

  • Better safe than sorry... it won't kill you to phone later

  • Just call later when you're driving

  • Lolz

  • haha and captain obvious just rolled in folks!

  • @ebuhman29

    ROFL!!!!

    Best comment ever. :)

  • Actually he should have just walked away for that amount of time and came back when the fumes were concentrated enough. I really wouldnt worry about using a cell phone or static discharge if its cold out and there are no fumes. However on a nice hot sunny day, put your phone away and touch the metal on your car.

  • But eventually...... He got bored of ringing and hanging up and staged it.

  • That is the only way that this could happen!

  • The people screaming FAKE! are the ones dumb enough to use their phone while pumping gas.

  • THIS IS FAKE. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN!

  • i've managed gas stations for several years and this is TRUE. DON'T USE YOUR CELL PHONE, DON'T BRUSH YOUR HAIR (STATIC ELECTRICITY) AND PUT YOUR METAL GAS CANS ON THE GROUND BEFORE FILLING THEM, BECAUSE WHEN THE TIP OF THE NOZZLE TOUCHES THE CAN IT MIGHT SPARK UNLESS THE GAS CAN IS "GROUNDED"

  • I haul gas for a living and this is total BS a cell phone will NOT do this!

  • Sad part is theres people that cant even take a piss without talking on their damn cell phone

  • This much IS true. STFU people!

  • not fake

  • Nothing but FAKE

  • Actually this does work, I have seen it.

  • FAKE

  • Did you actually see it when you weren't high?

  • its possible. electrical curents. fumes..boom

  • yea rgt

  • fake shit!!!!

  • faked.
