The script is all there, just give Larry Hama a producer cred and let him hash it out with the writers as to how to condense the comics down to feature movie length. I disagree with the telling a new story. You have to have a new plot line, not new character backgrounds. It's not supposed to be a re-imagining... it's supposed to pay homage to the original in live action form.
The worst part for me wasn't even the campiness, though. It was the complete disregard for the character relationships. Since when in the Baroness american and related to cobra commander and dating Duke ever.....

And there are better backstories to choose from for CC, they could have picked one of those instead.
All Stephen Sommers had to do was not try and emulate the campiness of the cartoon and bring a more serious tone to the franchise. Similar to what Devil's Due Publishing did with the GIJOE America's Elite comic.
GIJOE is so much better of a story when its brought into a serious light.
The only think Sommers did right was cast Storm Shadow. That actor played Shadow to a Tee.... and SPOILER ALERT.... low and behold they killed him in the movie... or "allegedly" kill him.

Well for starters CC wont have the helmet or the hood in the movie. He'll have a see through Jason X type faceplate with 4 breather holes and will be bald with a forehead scar.

the cartoon was targeted to kids. If it was like the comic it would have been cancelled after the first episode.
I the movie will be better than what ppl think. I thought the transformers movie was going to be the biggest joke ever and it turned out ok.

Well for starters CC wont have the helmet or the hood in the movie. He'll have a see through Jason X type faceplate with 4 breather holes and will be bald with a forehead scar.

cobra commander rules, how unfortunate that the movie won't even have the classic voice. if it doesn't sound like the original, it is just crap then. i think it is the true g.i.joe fans that brought back this series,and they screwed us yet again! they might as well have cast John Lithgow as cobra commander, that might have actually been better than that kid from 3rd rock!

Yeah. I just saw some photos of the actors in their G.I. Joe uniforms. They look like the X-Men with guns. It looks like it's gonna suck more than a busy hooker...or Speed Racer.
