@lionqueen11 Then what is it. It is not directly fusion, but since it is not traditional Tabla bol repertoire, it would be classified as fusion. What would you say this is?
I would say that it is simply a rhythmic piece without a standard genre identity.I don't hear a melody or harmony to call it jazz or fusion or funk etc. why u call it fusion and not call it jazz or ethnic for example?u hear something specific in the rhythms that u believe its a fusion characteristic?(just asking.I don't believe I'm right and u're wrong.I guess there must be a reason.)
@lionqueen11 Okay I see. It is for the sake of political correctness I guess. The reason I referred to it as fusion is because the rhythms played on the Tabla are heavily influenced from other cultural (mostly western) influences. Out of my own ignorance I have used fusion as a generic term that indicates a form of music that is not Indian classical. I don't know if your a Tabla player, but there is a specific repertoire that goes along with it, any thing else is considered "fusion".
@lionqueen11 It's cool. I actually thank you for bringing it up. It is important to share musical perspectives, even if slightly controversial :) I'll be sure to share some vids of some other musical forms that I think you'll might find interesting.
@lionqueen11: Read information I wrote on the right!
"Sangam" is an Indo-Aryan word meaning "assembly", "confluence", "gathering" or "academy," and it refers to the academy in particular in which poets, authors, or, as in the case of Lloyd, Hussain, and Harlan, musicians to gather and release their work."
@pearl1729 I think "aryan" is a sanskrit word which describes noble people. The nazis ripped it off as well as the swaztika a symbol for peace and harmony.
waah..just amazing...ustad ji as always takes the tabla to a whole new level...sound, creativity, balance and greatness..thanks so much for this gift..

@tiad
sangam is just a sanskrit word, 'indo-aryan' is a general term and the word 'aryan' is just a bullshit thing.
