Driving on the other side of the road is no problem when there is other traffic around. The problem is when it's late at night and there few cars, you tend to forget after turning corners. It a bit of a shock when you realize that the car is on the wrong side, especially when someone is coming straight at you.

We have to live with it. Australians and New Zealanders like the British all drive on the left side of the road. I would be scared driving on the right side of the road myself

Do you have some sort of crosswalk law there? They have it in certain places here and if you're not from those places you tend to forget. Personally I think you're an idiot if you step in front of a car expecting it to stop even with a law. Unless it's not going to be clear for a while you should just wait a bit...people have more control over their movements than a car. Of course if you're in NY City all bets are off.

she sure did take a risk. It would be up to a judge, but the driver would be blamed, because a driver needs to be aware that there was a person there that might cross the road. But she was silly.

Drivers are required to give way at pedestrians crossings, but it is silly to just walk out in front of cars like that. She might legally be right but she shouldn't risk her life like that. Much better to be alive and swearing at the car which didn't give way.
