  • Спасибо, ceb2633 , за возможность слушать этот чудесный голос, эту красивую песню в исполнении моеё любимой певицы Джоан Баээ.

  • I'm singing this carol with my SATB choir. There are two versions of the tune, very similar to each other. My "Carols for Choirs 1" book states at the top of the First Version - 'Original tune of 1591'. And the 2nd version as 'Modern version of tune arranged by Martin Shaw'. We're singing the latter. The 1st has 3 voice parts, the 2nd, 4 voice parts.

I've loved this song since singing it in Junior school!

  • I sang this song as a little girl in church. Love it.

  • What key is this? Gminor?

  • I have an entire album of her singing Christmas songs produced by Peter Schickile (?) in about 1966. I have dozens of Christmas albums of all sorts and this one is the best.

  • @DanPurdy1

I always think of Peter S. as PDQ Bach,,and I think he made the most beautiful music for this lovely voice, example, the sound track of Silent Running, among many. His orchestration for Turquoise is also perfect. Thanks for the comment.

  • @ceb2633 i have orderd this on cd from the internet ,thank you i love it

  • Joan Baez a "commie"?? Your Dad wouldn't be an "American Dad" would he? Mistaking a Quaker for a Commie does take a particularly poor education!

  • @RatherLargeAllan American dad?

  • This is a traditional English carol, commonly believed to have been first set down to music circa 1534 by a certain Peter Croo. It was part of the "Pageant of the Shearmen and the Tailors" performed in Coventry in around the 1500's, maybe the 1400's.

  • Thank you, vastedda, for the very interesting info. It is always great to find the sources of these lovely carols. C.

  • exactly

  • @vastedda99 a good example of the marcody third

  • This Video made my day. It exactly fits my mood now. A very touching melody sung by one of the finest natural Folk Singers of all time. ~Wonderful!~ -Brian.

  • What video? Its just a picture of Joan although she is smiling. That must be a first.

  • Wow, I had no idea Joan Baez worked with P.D.Q Bach!

  • Yes, a lot. Have you seen the film "Silent Running"? He (Peter S. aka PDQ Bach wrote the music for it, as she sings . Absolutely gorgeous sound track. C. I'll see if I can find it for you.

  • Bach? Not every music of those times is Bach, or is this? I would be surprised.

Joan is graet with most things she did and does.

  • Not Bach, slowfood, it is traditional English. The PDQ Bach referred to is Peter Schickele (can't spell it) who is a composer/conducter/musician/comedian.

  • Thanks. Now I got and found it. Always astonishing to see, that we as Germans have such a kind of humour.

  • Must be the Peter Schickele of Schickele Mix radio program? Not sure of spelling either! but he does great programs, when I manage to catch them.

  • first 8 track I ever bought 1971, listened to it Christmas morning

  • I still have all the original vinyl. For some reason I can't find "Silver Dagger" which I got in the late 50's or early 60's when It first came out.

  • Sweet!

  • Thank you this is so very special to me.

  • Me too, Bobbie, I have always loved Joan Baez. My father said she was a "commie," but I

recognized -- and still recognize -- her

    kind, loving heart! Toni

  • Magnificent! I've always loved listening to her sing. This performance doesn't disappoint!!

  • Uou are very welcome. One of my favorites. Thank you for listening.

  • A title from her album: "Noel".

    Thank you!
