Most people seem to forget one thing and that is the composer Khayyam. I always think 80% of song is music composition 10% is voice and 10% lyrics. Imagine this song without Khayyam. For poetry or lyrics u can read books.

@SMohinder I like your in depth knowledge and analysis. I have probably spent most of life around hindi songs & analyzing each singer's style. True Indian singing starts from K.L Saigal who was the greatest singer much before Lata, NoorJehan or Rafi. However, I still feel Mohd. Rafi was the best singer better than Kishore, Mukesh, MannaDey & Talat. I would say better even than Lata. Rafi sang songs as he was doing 'Ibadat'. Listen to his bhajans from Baiju Baawra or PAtriotic songs. Ultimate

Let me clear this up once and for all. Rafi is like the Barry White for India OK, he caters to older people. Kishore catered to EVERYONE. No Rafi didn't even have a better voice then him, SORRY that's a fact. It's like comparing Blues to RnB. Rnb can change up, Blues is more slow.

Kishore touched generations upon generations, sorry I don't hear anything of Rafi right now and NO i'm not knocking on his talent. But Kishore was 1 in a billion, Rafi can be redone.

Kishore was too shy in the bigning to sing any song...clearing that...if u remeber kisore, LATA JI and Rafi Sahib sang a few same songs...Kishre da had better expression...Tum Bin Janu khan and Tere Naina sawan bhadon...neverthless...I regard Rafi n Lata the greatest but Kishore Da still has no camprison...Rafi Sahib sang under the best musicians and done a fabulous job but Kisore da excell and lifted up even the ordinary songs where Rafi lost....that's a talent only Kishore Da could do wonders

I lived in bombay for 4 yrs and been assistant to Ravi chopra , son of B R chopra and been a music lover and student for many years. i donot want to get any aguments over prefereces, If i sing 50 songs, may be 40 songs will be from Rafi Sahib's collection still KIshore Da can never be surpassed by any singer..living or dead. I met both Rafi and Kishore sahib and touched their feet for their legendary talents, my opinion is not baseless but through experience and knowledge of film industry..

hi Mohinder, I agree. Its not who was the best, Rafi Ji had years of learning and expertise. Rafi was dedicated to singing and Kishore was an all rounder, a singer, an actor, a music director. On the other hand, Kishore ji did not have any basic training in music also. A Self learner and the best one. And inspite of that he was at par and sometimes better than others. I love both of them and would always hate to compare these two pillars of indian playback singing.

@bappan23 u know i watched the son of Mehdi Hassan Sahib saying in one of his interview on TV that the way kishore Da sings from heart and brings out the expression is simply awesome...and surprisingly he neve mentioned any other singer when he was asked who he is impressed most from the bollywood singers.. and he has his own wish list of Kishore Da songs...God bless him for his honesty n music sense...
