Depends! Some satellites orbit the earth and others are geo-stationary and therefore maintain a fixed position above the earths surface (such as GPS Satellites).

Nope. Geosynchronous ones stay stationary relative to the earth but not all satellites are geosynchronous. Some fly in figure 8 or sine wave patterns.
