There are strong rumors saying this only happens with the oldest models of the ps3 (the ones that supports media cards and have 4 usb slots), the "new" ps3 fat models with 80 gb or more with only 2 usb slots dont have this problem, just take good care of it and make sure its in a open place at least 10 cm of the wall, you'll nave no problems, i have mine since almost 2 years and it works perfectly, i can play for hours and it doesnt overheat, looks like new.

my ps3 loads the main screen but no icons and controllers turn off! i hold the off button it beeps 3 times then turns off. the disk removal is fine makes a beep and than disk comes out. please help me!

@lmfao0its0a0bird Someone told me to hold the eject button while the ps3 is closed. Hold the eject button, then turn on the power switch (switch in the back). This will eject the game, but it's not going to stop the blinking. -_-

xbox's failure rate is over 43 % see for yourself and ps3 failure rate is around 10 %+ if your ps3 will broke because of manufacture problems they will give you a new ps3 , for the xbox you need to pay to fix it wich cost about the same like your xbox cost :))) microsoft knew about RROD but they didn't fix for this reason to take all your money ....

Yes the 360 DID have a terrible failure rate initially but again, MS paid for it because the console was under warranty which is what a company SHOULD do when a product they produced malfunctions. Again, I didn't have to pay squat.

@nightmarepablo no because the xbox 360 (fat model) had a 50% failure rate. i have friends that have gone through 2 to 4 xboxs including myself. ps3 has a 10% failure rate...not the best but hell of a lot better than xbox. but i agree both systems have their problems, but there is no excuse for that kind of failure rate for any product. the rrod should have been fixed right away by just adding more vents to new systems but microsoft is too cheap to do so. unacceptable.

This is caused by a defective motherboard, where some of the contacts on the board have become cracked/disconnected because of the heating and cooling of the board. Try placing pressure on the metal clamps that hold the CPU/GPU in place. Putting small washers on the screws that hold these clamps in, and making sure they are decently tight, may revive/fix the system.
If you are still under warranty you should get Sony to replace it instead of trying to fix it yourself.

i heard its somthing to do with the hardrive try replceing it. Thats what i had to do with mine when it had a similier problem but not this. freplce a hardrive from the ps3 is ceap and easy and you can easly upgrade the ps3 to 400gb or 500gb for as little as a hundread dollars.
@raymontmh I switch off the main power switch then held my finger on the eject button and switched it back on. Then the ps3 fans go through a test run and it force ejects any disk inside. PS3 still broke though :S

@ss89NOR i just got mine out by doing the fan test. Turn off your power switch then the flip it on again from the back then press and hold the eject button. It took my 3 tries and to my surprize the disc come out. The lights still bl;inking though.
@ss89NOR Turn the PS3 on, start it normaly, when it beeps 3 times and flashing red, turn it of, and turn the power off in the back... Then hold the EJECT an ON button in the front and turn on the power in the back... The fans should kick on and eject your disc..
@TheLastRacer this worked, but I turned it back off right after because I'm not sure if this is a permanent fix. The fans started going way faster than normal. Will it start to run normal later?

Putting small washers on the screws that hold these clamps in, and making sure they are decently tight, may revive/fix the system.
If you are still under warranty you should get Sony to replace it instead of trying to fix it yourself.

first my xbox 360 elite died then my ps3 and also the ps3 slim but now i have 360 slim and it's fine i use it 15 hour non stop just playing gears of war if the 360 slim version fail i will switch to PC and say console sucks.

iv found a way to get the disk out ,take a blow dryer put it to the back vents turn it on low and leave it there for like half an hour come back let it cool for 20 minutes it turns on like nothing happened let me know if this works for you dancathox hotmail

i heard its somthing to do with the hardrive try replceing it. Thats what i had to do with mine when it had a similier problem but not this. freplce a hardrive from the ps3 is ceap and easy and you can easly upgrade the ps3 to 400gb or 500gb for as little as a hundread dollars.

@raymontmh I switch off the main power switch then held my finger on the eject button and switched it back on. Then the ps3 fans go through a test run and it force ejects any disk inside. PS3 still broke though :S

@ss89NOR i just got mine out by doing the fan test. Turn off your power switch then the flip it on again from the back then press and hold the eject button. It took my 3 tries and to my surprize the disc come out. The lights still bl;inking though.

@ss89NOR Turn the PS3 on, start it normaly, when it beeps 3 times and flashing red, turn it of, and turn the power off in the back... Then hold the EJECT an ON button in the front and turn on the power in the back... The fans should kick on and eject your disc..
