ever heard of using the materials available in your own immediate surrounds rather than furthering the ecological destruction that comes from manufacturing and transporting cement, mortar and bricks?
Ok I have...and I've built with them. In your mind what do you see as the benefits of say red brick + mortar construction over cob? Knowing of course as I am sure you do that the oldest original cob house in england dates back to 1539.
@NoirMusic Brick is good, but can be expensive. You can basically dig up the dirt on site and start building a house instead of having to ship in bricks that are most likely made thousands of miles away. So if that is important to you that is one aspect. Also cob acts as a heat store so if you design your home with passive solar in mind the heat from the sun will be stored in the cob and give off the heat at night. I'm sure brick does this but the thickness of the cob walls increases this.

Yeah, I also know their price tag very well...Cob Houses are virtually free.
