I really like how Hercules is shown quite arrogant before the perspective of fighting Anteus, and how once in the middle of the fight, he looks quite desperate.
oh, i under stand. i must not have been paying much attention when i saw the scene. he gets his strength from his mother the earth. how very literal and metaphorical!
I grew up on these fun classics, besides the old 50s & 60s monster movies, I also watched these sword and sandal epics. The Steve Reeves movies such as Hercules and Hercules Unchained along with the Last Days of Pompeii are old favorites of mine.
Starting around 0:45 "Hey! Hey! Stop a moment strangers! This valley is mine! And no one passes through this valley I say so and they pay a price! Yes...this valley is Anteus' and you'll do anything because I say so!" Love that quote.
this wrestling match does not compare to the one with reg hercules park versus antaeus in terms of sheer action and sweat but nevertheless we have very few actual wrestling scenes with the great Mr. Steve Reeves and thus this scene of greco-roman wrestling is very special for the fans.
I found the answer. At first Antaeus already had vast superhuman strength from birth but Gaia gave him the power to renew his strength when he was tired. So there we go Antaeus was at first naturally strong just like any other giant or offsprings of the gods.
That actress is sexy!!

Anteus son of the earth goddess. He renews his strength when his body touches the earth...

Shouldn't Antaeus already have superhuman strength without the help of Gaia. Both of his parents are gods.
