The only thing that could have created the big bang other than God is a multiverse, where there are multiple universes connected to each other somehow. And this still doesn't give us any idea of how the a universal mass formed into a density the size of the big bang or got here. Or quantum fluctuation, which could be possible if the energy of the universe was 0 due to there being no space/time. I prefer a universal designer and they're being a god though.

I am a christian, I do believe in god, but I have my own theories. Personally, I like science, everything makes sense and we have proof. But does that mean that I don't believe in god? @hurdofchris Nothing in science is absolute. Often saying things like "the answer was found" is simply linguistic shorthand for "the evidence we have collected thus far shows it most likely that..". It's just easier to say it in the first case, and it wouldn't register for the layman.

Hawking's conclusions of having no beginning (no God) is not entirely representative of the whole scientific community. His conclusion of no creator due to no "time" is flawed. Many physicists argue there exists a multiverse where all dimensions (time, space, matter, energy etc) are housed together, and if thats true, then creation is still possible.
A being that exists OUTSIDE of time/space.
So Hawking's explanation only changed the question to "who created the multiverse?"

My issue is that I think that schools and individuals should teach all ideas on the subject and let the individual make up his or her mind.Creationists and Evolutionists have the same evidence, they just have differing presuppositions. The whole discussion around the question "Did God Create the Universe?" is very limited & misleading. There are alternative answers, which are neither discussed by mainstream scientists and religious people/scientists. As usual the content of the doc is intended to be presented as an answer to the question("Did God Create the Universe?") only but not to find out the 'whole truth' which is beyond answers and questions but contains both.
Hawking seems to make a leap from his initial question: Do we need God to be in the equation at some point in order to logically explain the existence of the universe? He then lays out a bunch of logical cause and effect steps that originated with Nothingness, never needing to refer to God at any point in the process. So his answer should be 'No, we don't need God to EXPLAIN the universe.' But he suddenly goes further and says 'God can't even exist in the first place!'

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that scientist were able to trace the universe's expansion back to its origin and that there was radiation or something that supported it happened the way it did.

@hurdofchris Nothing in science is absolute. Often saying things like "the answer was found" is simply linguistic shorthand for "the evidence we have collected thus far shows it most likely that..". It's just easier to say it in the first case, and it wouldn't register for the layman.
Also, you seem to imply that the Big Bang theory can be easily waved away because it's a "theory". Are you aware what that term means in a scientific context? Gravity is a theory as well.

Hawking's conclusions of having no beginning (no God) is not entirely representative of the whole scientific community. His conclusion of no creator due to no "time" is flawed. Many physicists argue there exists a multiverse where all dimensions (time, space, matter, energy etc) are housed together, and if thats true, then creation is still possible.
A being that exists OUTSIDE of time/space.
So Hawking's explanation only changed the question to "who created the multiverse?"

You believe that evolution is true, but in my opinion there isn't enough evidence to suggest that it is true. Scientifically nobody has watched anything evolve, they have only seen mutations and variations within species. The only evolution that has been proven is microevolution. I haven't had the chance to check out the entire program, but I have been reading your debate. I am a Christian, and believe in Creation over Evolution. My issue is that I think that schools and individuals should teach all ideas on the subject and let the individual make up his or her mind.Creationists and Evolutionists have the same evidence, they just have differing presuppositions. Mine is the belief that God created the universe.

@provocationofgrace And why do you have that presumption? Because of how you were raised. And how your parents where raised. And how their parents were raised. And so on and so on. There are simply too many religions to teach all of them in school. Then you have teacher bias. An atheist teacher, a christian teacher, a muslim teacher, and so on. There is much more evidence of Evolution than that there is a God btw.

I don't want to change people's opinions but i just wanna say one thing. Our world is perfect. Our planet is the only one with billions of life. There is only a small chance of a planet getting that much life. Think of all the things that happened to get us this far. You gotta admit. If that wasn't just luck. God made it all happen. And that fact that a complex being like a human being created from a merging of a sperm and an egg cell isn't something amazing. God has to have a hand in that.

"god" is a creation developed entirely from the human mind, as solace for those afraid of what happens after death. if there was this great being, why would there exist any strife or evil in the world? simply believing there is a god somehow makes it the truth now? society is going down the toilet if everyone is as closeminded as this.

The whole discussion around the question "Did God Create the Universe?" is very limited & misleading. There are alternative answers, which are neither discussed by mainstream scientists and religious people/scientists. As usual the content of the doc is intended to be presented as an answer to the question("Did God Create the Universe?") only but not to find out the 'whole truth' which is beyond answers and questions but contains both.

Hawking seems to make a leap from his initial question: Do we need God to be in the equation at some point in order to logically explain the existence of the universe? He then lays out a bunch of logical cause and effect steps that originated with Nothingness, never needing to refer to God at any point in the process. So his answer should be 'No, we don't need God to EXPLAIN the universe.' But he suddenly goes further and says 'God can't even exist in the first place!'

i respect everyone's views on the subject of God, Atheists, Christians, Muslims, whatever, because we are all different and think differently, but i can't respect an atheist when they come off as rude and thinking that they are better and smarter than people that do believe in God. Just because a person believes in God doesn't make then "sheep" or "ignorant", its 2011 people, cant we find a common between us instead of all these arguments, i'm saying at least agree to disagree.

You do know that most people believe that Jesus started Christianity which was essentially Catholicism, and in about the 16th Century(this is probably wrong but about then) Calvinism / Lutheranism / Protestantism came about.

i understand where u are coming from, but you have to know that when u say someone with an imaginary friend, it is not imaginary to them, it is real and something that gives them hope. Hope is why people believe in God, and is partly why i believe in God, its amazing that us as humans are even able to come up with these deep questions about our universe and our creation when we are so small. I can see how you would be worried about someone doing something dangerous though.
