On the PS3 version, you can play as the animals... and you can go to other peoples houses and beg them for food... might be helpful for you if you want to have another pet.

@zXNoRegretszzXz to move into her house, you have to go into edit town mode, click yourse house, and evict yourself from it. Then you'll see Jim in the clipboard. Click on him and then place him into the chick's house and.. HUZZAH! NEW HOUSE :D!

I love it how you aren't using any cheat codes or money cheats for this! It just shows how hard it is to function normally on the sims. Sorry about your dog, you may be able to get him back in the adoption agency if you use your cell phone to contact them. Not sure though. Happy simming! ^_^
