Jimmy wasn't raped during the flashback episode. However it's obvious that his mother sexually abused him as a child.
In the flashback episode he really wasn't resisting much, and even if he did resist for the first few seconds, it stops being rape as soon as he reciprocates. He wanted it. Also, they were both intoxicated.
The worst that can be said is that gillian coaxed him into it, and he barely put up a fight for more than a couple of seconds.
@TheAnile8er Tell you what...when you have the social skills to be able to talk about a topic, full on for a full 19mins, with real strength and opinion...you will realise, he has all the social skills and abilty to hold a conversation in LIFE... that most lack. This guy is one of the very few people on youtube that has good argument for almost all topics he speaks about. The dude deserves respect for his vids. Give him a break and listen to the full 19.25 straight or put up..
I have to say I disagree with you about what happened between Jimmy and Gillian being rape. She wasn't the one who got him drunk and more importantly even though he resisted for the first couple seconds I think that he wanted it too, though clearly not nearly as much as his mom did. We saw clues this season where she'd try to kiss him on the mouth in the current day and he wasn't comfortable with it.
She did clearly molest him as a child, and that contributed to what happened between them.
If there is one character that has been a definition let down this season it's Chalky White. There was so much happening the first few episodes this season. With a race strike and everything, he should be more involved. But instead he's always off, sleeping or something.
The affair with Owen makes perfect sense, and it is going to be revealed. Put a parent with a catholic upbringing into the position where they think God's punishing them for their sin, not to mention how vulnerable she must be feeling for remaining completely abandoned by her cultural & literal family, she's reaching the point where she's going to break down. And when she does, we'll see just how much Nucky really cares for her. She's already venting her frustrations in all the wrong places.
I just wanna say about Margaret and her family ... she DID try to reconnect with them. And it only lasted for one episode because her brother made it very clear he wanted nothing to do with her and that she wasn't to ever come around again. She was shot down, HARD.
I love your vids man, but I have to say I don't agree with your "nothing really happened in that episode so I'm just not going to review it" policy. I think you have a responsibility to your viewers to review all the episodes of a series no matter how you feel about them. Aside from that, great job and keep up the good work.
"Under God's Power She Flourishes." is the Princeton University motto. But, the deeper meaning of the title refers to Gillian (Jimmy's Mom) because she got nearly everything she wanted. It's also creepy how she walked Teddy (Jimmy's Son) up the stairs "to put him to bed". And when Teddy asked where was his mommy she said, (well I am paraphrasing) "I'm your mommy", even though the last kid to call her "mommy" she raped and molested.
Boardwalk Empire as a whole is just not that great of a show, I still watch it but mainly because there is nothing else on Sunday nights. You need to start watching and reviewing Breaking Bad, which is possibly the best drama on tv right now.
Once again I disagree with just about everything you said, I think the fact that Angela was reaching out to Jimmy and they were finally being honest with each other and possibly rekindling their relationship, that it makes her death rather tragic.
You seem to have a problem with "gray areas" Mrs. Schroeder was always conflicted with her actions and her daughters disease has finally pushed her over the edge and she now has the conviction and certainty that the things shes been doing are wrong.
What happened in this episode is kinda(just a little) like Oedipus Rex, killed his father, slept with his mother, which eventually leads to his downfall. Hopefully the downfall part does not happen to Jimmy.
I agree with you that the women haven't been used right. For me its all wrapped up together. Jimmy's been manipulated by his Mum his whole life and it felt like recently, he was confiding more in Angela. I was hoping she'd become his right hand as he gained independence from Gillian, Commodore and co. But that didn't happen. Margaret likewise from looking like she might become a player has just been playing bit parts. I'm not disappointed with this season as a whole like you but...yeah. 1>2.
Another awesome insightful review! And now that I think about it, you are completely right that Jimmy was basically raped. It sheds so much light on his relationship with his mother and not only that, but it explains why he has so much trouble handling power.
So when Manny killed Angela you didn't care. But when Tigg killed a nameless girlfriend of the Niner guy, it's worth a whole rant. I wonder what the difference here is....
@OtakuASSEMBLE Man, I love your vids, and I like you as a youtuber and as a person, I'm just pointing something out that didn't make sense to me. No hate here.
@tkpanda Yeah it was creepy. However you had to expect that something was VERY unusual in their relationship. I always highly suspected this was the case, this just confirmed that.
Jimmy's Mom is kinda turning out to be a "Cersei", she might be a sociopath, because she was way to calm about Angela's death and the way she ordered jimmy to finish of his own father was horrible. And am I the only one who caught on to the way she said "It's all going to be better now....." and "I'll put him to bed. And I'll be up stairs".
@comiclove5 Name man I heard that too and I was thinking: She cant be meaning what I think she's meaning. Some of the stuff Gillian has said about what she used to do to Jimmy as a baby, how they used to lay side by side and you have to wonder if Gillian has been abusing Jimmy his whole life? It was heavily hinted at I know but its still sick.
And he's indecisive remember with the meeting with the old guys. The old dude struck Jimmy in the head. Meeting with the other crime bosses Eli cut in ignoring Jimmy plan and everyone else did. Meeting about the workers strike his father totally disrespected Jimmy. It seems like no one really respects Jimmy decisions I mean Jimmy is a foot soldier not a boss.
I agree with everything except what you said about Jimmy. I knew Jimmy was going to be a disaster has a boss. I saw glimpses of Jimmy lack of leadership in season one with that botched liquor hijacking. Remember he messed up so bad in season one he had to leave Atlantic City and fled to Chicago. Jimmy is not like the other young crime bosses. And every time Jimmy has a meeting with the other bosses or business men everyone always undercut his decisions.
Glad VanAlden finally got caught. Feels like the characters have come undone and have lost their footing. With the exception of Jimmy's Mom, who is 'eerily' steady as cucumber in unfortunate situations. Angela is the 2nd woman in Jimmy's life to be attacked by his enemies. (Remember that 'Free Air' girl in Season 1?). When he sobers up from his heroin trip, he better start seeing things clearly. Richard Harrow is a character of interest - it would be foolish to put him on the back burner....
youre right they killed angela too soon but it will be important in the upcoming decline of jimmy. oh and margaret has to go, bitch cant take the stand! haha great review man
