OMG, someone should have told him that that the "t" in "gratia" must have been readen as a "z". So is "grazia". So, so, so bad Michael. (anyway the song is beautiful as his voice :) )
@Ellie072515 this is what you wrote 1. zwoooooooooosh watch your mouth there could be little coulds looking at these posts. YOU WATCH YOUR MOUTH I'M THE UPLOADER!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!
@Ellie072515 D: You can't be "latin", you could have been Roman at least, since latin was the language of the Roman Empire. IS NOT FRENCH AT ALL. I don't wanna live on this planet anymore .____. [and YES is LATIN, like in Cicerone, Seneca, do you know?]
I'm Italian and even Italians would pronunciate latin in a bad way without studying it a t school. But Michael is a singer and I thought that before singing a song in another language singers studied a bit also the pronunciation. Anyway Michael has a really beautiful voice and I appreciate a lot his effort ;) Merry Christmas!!

Oh my days, for the LAST TIME GET OVER HIS PRONUNCIATION I'M FED UP OF EVERYONE KEEP BRINGING IT UP, EVEN IF YOU ARE COMPLEMENTING HIM!!!! STOP GOING ON ABOUT IT!!! 1 MORE COMMENT AND I'LL BLOCK EVERY SINGLE PERSON COMMENTING ON HIS PRONUNCIATION!

SHAME ON ALL OF THEM!! But you get a BIG THUMPS UP FROM ME!! ^^ :D THANK YOU A 1000,000 times
Hey...I'm Italian, I study Latin, and trust me, his pronounciation is not SO bad to be an English native speaker. And of course no one can "be Latin"...
Why must everyone be arguing about Latin? Leave the dead language alone. So what if he doesn't pronounce it correctly? It's a language that now a days have never to be spoken, (except songs and well church) only be able to read.
The reason why learning other languages is because they are all derived from Latin, the language made by the Ancient Greeks which went onto the Romans and they spread it across most of Europe with their empire.
There is another melody to Ave Maria that i usally hear around christmas. This melody was sung at my grandparents funeral and - though it is absoluty beautiful- to me it is not the 'christmas' version of Ave Maria. Still, Michael does sound good.
The Italian,Spanish,Portuguese, and French languages are heavily based in the ancient Latin language. Their lands formerly belonged to the Roman Empire centuries ago and the Roman language at the time was Latin.People fluent in these languages today have it easier reading, pronouncing and singing in Latin because of this.
@771Manny Just to tell you, you are completely right execpt for France. It has never belong to the Romans lol it's just because pf the economy that French is based on Latin, because it was the language used for business :)
@kevlauzon Actually Manny was right, the lands which now make up modern day France were part of the roman empire which extended towards modern day Germany.
WOW! WTH is wrong with people? Sorry to see you being the misguided target from a few people here who are sorely lacking skills in the social-internet world. I'm pretty sure that this post/song was made mainly with the intent of sharing something beautiful and entertaining. But then, there will always be those 'few' who get off on causing as much damage in their wake as they possibly can. I'm so proud of the human race... BTW, Good post 'zwoooooooooosh'! Peace.
wrong latin pronunciation, i'm not latina but still can pronounce the latin words correctly..i learn because i go to traditional tridentine latin mass..beautiful song, a prayer to Our Lady.
@magdalenedp pretty sure its the thought that counts ;) i sung this at christmas mass last year and even though i had the pronunciation right he still sings better than me!!!
@zwoooooooooosh There is no such thing as a Latin person in the sense that their native language is latin. Latin is a language that has been dead for years, there is no nation or ethnicity that speaks latin in existence today. Of course Michael Buble is not Latin because no one on earth is Latin. Latin is not an ethnicity or nationality or race or anything of the sort. However, that is a credit to how hard it must be to sing in the language.
The song is beutiful and sung very well. Latin is an old language and used to have latin masses in most countries till 70`s. Still latin is used in more traditional churches in all over the world. The song is sung in LATIN. No connection with LATINOS!!!
Will everyone calm down? Shooting down people who correct pronunciation doesn't make you any better. Facts are: 1) Michael Buble is a great singer 2) His pronunciation is not correct. Yes, in the vocal world, pronunciation is everything, so respect that people care about it. It doesn't mean they are hating on him as a singer. Everyone needs to settle the hell down and just enjoy the music. Besides, criticism is a singer's best friend. Take it from someone who knows.
if it was sung always the same way it was just dull and boring. when we sung gloria in excelsis Deo with the american comunity choir of Augsburg, it was strange for us germans how the americans pronunced "excelsis"...
it might have been a good idea to listen to Pavarotti or Bocelli as italian should be closer to latin than english, but i guess, that latin spoken in the roman colonies sounded similar to english in India or french in Haiti in our days.
Pronunciation is for pussies. There is revelation, then truth as objective, then normativity, then opinion - grammatical correctness, and, finally, the least important of all, pronunciation.
As no one alive today has ever heard latin being spoken by the native speakers (as they lived at least 1500 years ago) no one knows how to pronounce it properly. Therefore it is open to interpretation. This is Michael Buble's intepretation.
@zwoooooooooosh - I would like for those who are complaining so much to sing this song! They couldnt even get one line right! Amazing song and Michael does a wonderful job at it!
So many seem to be forgetting something rather simple in saying that the latin and the song it self was sung wrong.
1. All songs sound different from one singer to the next.
2. He is from Canada so he does have a some what accent that makes some words sound different to what you might be used too. Last but not least all he and the uploader is trying to do is share with the world a love of christmas songs that many might have heard when they were growing up.
I have been just sitting here with my eyes closed this whole song almost put me into a deep "sweet dreams" sleep :)......his voice is like soft silk on your skin, its is like a lindor truffle melting all over your mouth, it is....... it is.........beyond compare, Gorgiuosly BEAUTIFUL! :) <3 michel buble forever<3
In quanto a pronuncia ha preferito utilizzare la classica e non quella evangelica o scolastica. Poi dovete pensare che sta CANTANDO in latino, non parlandolo.
@zwoooooooooosh there are a lot of people who have sung this beautiful song for many many years that are not latin. it is about what the song means not who sings it!
@zwoooooooooosh Technically, nobody is "Latin". It's a language, not a people group. And anyway, if you're going to sing in a language, you should at least bother to learn what you're saying. I'm not hating, I like Buble well enough, but I don't think it's fair to freak out on people who point out that he is in fact pronouncing it wrong.
@anthonyvenanzio Hi Anthony, that's Latin actually... I am Italian and I read your comment before listening, then I wondered why I couldn't understand a word... XD
@Ergiovi I have to disagree. In classical pronounciation the t is always a "t" and never a "z" or "ts". He comes actually quite close to the classical pronounciation, but he should say the "v" like in "w" in English.
@feisher Piss off, he's got talent you don't look were he is and look were you are, he's the King of Swing and your, looking him up on the internet, your proply King of the Cry Babies you jelous wimp.
@feisher Are you fricken kidding me?!?! Michael's voice was made for this kind of music! He by far has the best Christmas album out there nowadays. Don't go on a vid like this and post that kind of crap. Just try to sing this song better hypocrite!
@susieistda yea, his Latin does leave a lot to be desired. I would think that the record label would have hired someone to coach him on his Latin before recording something like this. To be completely fair, the majority of his listening audience wouldn't know the difference anyhow, so I guess it isn't that big of a deal. It is what it is. I know even Buble would agree that his version is nothing like the literally perfect Sinatra recording from 28th March 1945.
For all those that are complaining about Michael - NO BODY'S PERFECT! His voice is amazing, his efforts are amazing. Look where he is in life and look where you are... Jealous MUCH! Now sit down, cheer up and stop complaining. JHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEZE
@darada8m Not jealous, if you going to sing a song for the world i would expect your pronunciation to be spot on if not perfect. Especially such a religious and famous Christmas song
@Dreamer617 how dare you come onto my video and comment like that, and just clicking this vid to hate is pathetic. Get off my channel and go home. Maybe you should take shutting up lessons.
He's pronouncing at least half the Latin wrong. And scooping the beginning of each phrase. His vibrato is like a machine gun. I don't understand the hype with this guy. I think the people who like his voice have no clue about singing.
@Dreamer617 I'm pretty familiar with choral singing, and the shape of vowels. On that note, buble doesn't need to participate. It matters a lot more singing in a section, rather than solo. He's allowed to make diction changes to suit his style, which is appreciated rather than using vowels with the paradigm of unoriginality.
@zwoooooooooosh "michael buble isnt-- latin"!???? Do you mean "a Roman"? Or maybe a 16th century European nobleman? Latin hasn't been spoken as an official language since the 17th century. Sorry. But I just couldn't leave that out there.
Michael needs to take lessons in Latin pronunciation. I can't believe that the producers didn't catch such obvious mispronunciation. He's not dancing the 'hora' (the 'h' is silent in 'hora') and 'gratia' has a 'ts' sound for the 't'. Wow.
Very nice song Ave Maria !

@feisher Are you fricken kidding me?!?! Michael's voice was made for this kind of music! He by far has the best Christmas album out there nowadays. Don't go on a vid like this and post that kind of crap. Just try to sing this song better hypocrite!

classic latin pronunciation actually sounds very plain. It would be weird if he didn't sing if with this accent (AP Latin student:)
nicolekraft175 2 months ago
I actually love him, but he needs to work on his latin!
susieistda 2 months ago
@susieistda yea, his Latin does leave a lot to be desired. I would think that the record label would have hired someone to coach him on his Latin before recording something like this. To be completely fair, the majority of his listening audience wouldn't know the difference anyhow, so I guess it isn't that big of a deal. It is what it is. I know even Buble would agree that his version is nothing like the literally perfect Sinatra recording from 28th March 1945.

@darada8m Not jealous, if you going to sing a song for the world i would expect your pronunciation to be spot on if not perfect. Especially such a religious and famous Christmas song

@BrawlOfDuty Fair enough. But he's not Latin and nobody's really perfect :L But I understand you

@Dreamer617 how dare you come onto my video and comment like that, and just clicking this vid to hate is pathetic. Get off my channel and go home. Maybe you should take shutting up lessons.

I can´t understand, that such an amazing singer doesn´t have a coach for latin pronouncation... 5 minutes work and we haven´t this discussion...

I love Michael, but the pronunciation is not very good, you should correct
claudiavicini68 2 months ago
He's pronouncing at least half the Latin wrong. And scooping the beginning of each phrase. His vibrato is like a machine gun. I don't understand the hype with this guy. I think the people who like his voice have no clue about singing.
lizelliotmusic 2 months ago
@lizelliotmusic Please do not be so drastic, his voice is beautiful, no one said it was Pavaroti simply a pleasure to hear

Teekles 2 months ago
@zwoooooooooosh "michael buble isnt-- latin"!???? Do you mean "a Roman"? Or maybe a 16th century European nobleman? Latin hasn't been spoken as an official language since the 17th century. Sorry. But I just couldn't leave that out there.

Michael needs to take lessons in Latin pronunciation. I can't believe that the producers didn't catch such obvious mispronunciation. He's not dancing the 'hora' (the 'h' is silent in 'hora') and 'gratia' has a 'ts' sound for the 't'. Wow.
