A rare clip indeed. I've still got my original 45...bought it when it first came out early 1977. I'd already seen The Damned and The Adverts AND The Jam....What a great time for us brand new punks that was!
@Scotlanz Yeah, Howard sang on "Spiral Scratch" but left before the Buzzcocks' first album "Another Music in a Different Kitchen", for whatever reason. (I think he wanted to "do something else".) After Buzzcocks took off, Howard Devoto formed the band Magazine.
@Scotlanz ...i reckon devoto left 'cos his style was different to pete shelly. to illustrate this point; they obviously had a riff composed before they split, they both used it; shelly in 'lipstick' (in the related videos-->) & devoto in 'shot by both sides'. listen to those 2 and you'll clearly see the artistic differences. although shelly is great, devoto is vasly superior IMO.
You bastard. I could have gone to that tour in Dundee on a Tuesday night but I went to my night class instead like a good boy. Regretted that ever since. Cheers for reminding me. Almost the last time Ian Curtis played.
Reminds me my mate once phoned John Maher for drum lessons in late 1981. He was living with Stevie Diggle in Oldham and the band was breaking up. Shelley did some nice solo pieces, Diggle and Maher had Buzzcock Flag of Convenience (for which I failed my audition to become bassist - though greatly enjoyed the afternoon!), and the real bassist had his own band. Last time I saw the buzzcocks live was in Bolton shortly before that split. Happy days and how I wish I was 16 again!!!!!
Su-fucking-perb stuff! Never seen this before. A very well shot bit of footage, a sharp bit of editing & top sound quality too.....Apart from Maher's dodgy titfer: What's not to like? Cheers for posting.
Ok pop pickers name me any current band that can sound as good as this live oh and to mr cowell and all his legion of pre fab bands please.............YOU DONT STAND A FUCKING CHANCE - just an EPIC performance from as real a band as you are ever going to get !
Can not believe that there is footage of this show because I went to this show. I remember it was the first time I saw people pogo dancing. Don't remember it being that packed. Also saw the Furs at Bradford same year on their first tour of the US. Anyone know the exact date of this of either.
there are some bore-heads inside a henry-rollins-forum (rollins on rave & drugs) who rate rollins as "punk", to some of them i sent some buzzcocks-live-stuff.......ex-ce-llent!!! thanx a real lot for posting. if there´s more of that good quality(and not uploaded yet) - send it to my channel.......
This video's first VIRGIN comment!!! What can I say?? I fucking LOVE,LOVE,LOVE The Buzzcocks and SPECIALLY this song right here!!! Sometimes You Tube REALLY fucking DELIVERS THE GOODS!!!

I'm pretty sure Howard Devoto sang on Spiral Scratch but their voices are pretty similar.

Wow, Pete rocks on this song! I like the vocal twist he gave it, it's a bit more melodic. Great as always!
