It took me a long time to appreciate this anime. It wasn't that I didn't like the individual episodes, it was the lack of a continual story. I never felt the need to watch the next episode. It took me a year to get through, but I finally "got" the relaxing, mysterious atmosphere and philosophical undertones and loved it enough to buy the DVDs, and now I'd love to see another season.

Kino no tabi and mushishi are the only anime in this particular genre whatever you might call it. I wish there were more, I really love this anime. It's such a feel good anime and still dark and disturbing at times. It really gets you relaxed and makes you think at the same time.

Mushishi is hard to understand, so you don't have to get uit to appreciate it. It's deep and philosophical -it relies heavily upon the Shintou kami. If we are childish for appreciating the kami and the mushi, then we are no more childish than those who believe in God.
