This kind of move Is used in real street fights. I mean when is the last time you seen a fight where a guy jumped on top of a downed opponent just to elbow the shit out of him??? lol easier just to soccer kick the mofo!
It isn't dirty and it was allowed in PRIDE. Takedowns are much riskier with kicks to the head legal and there wouldn't be as many boring decisions in the ufc if it were still legal.
@KAZZARTT This isn't a dirty move. Shogun used soccer kicks in Pride, and he was known for them while he was in Pride. If you call this dirty, you don't know a damned thing about MMA.
@KAZZARTT I've been elbowed in the face from a guy in my half guard and I've been soccer kicked. I can attest, the elbows are more painful and they're very likely to cut you. This will just knock your ass out. I'd rather see MMA with soccer kicks, stomps, and knees from side control than elbows to the head. I'd rather see them both, but if I had to trade one for the other...soccer kicks!!
I love the soccer kicks and stomps but it's good that they are not allowed in Strikeforce of UFC because they are such "gimmie points." In reality, yeah they are good but in MMA, cheap shots.
@votumseparatum1 the reason they're band well one of the reasons they're banned is because of the cage. in a ring you can't get trapped in the corner. but with a cage your head can get pushed into the corner where stomps and soccer kicks become really dangerous
i hope so actually. it's to easy to get a lucky cut and win...thats great for a real self defense situation where honor doesn't mean a whole lot. but in a sport, how does that prove you're a technically superior athlete?
Now thats a bit of a problem... hmm.... I like elbows as much as the next guy but lets face it, elbows are for cutting plain and simple... I don't want to see a ban on it, but it will most likely happen.
they can be a bludgeon too, which would technically be more of a forearm strike, but it's hard to judge sometimes and you'd end up with just as many cuts if they tried to limit it to the forearm. we'll see what happens.
not necessarily. sometimes maybe, other times it's pure luck. or ref stoppage. this to me doesn't mean you're the superior athlete. it means you got lucky. imagine you're winning a fight and your opponent slices your eyelid open with an elbow. does that make him superior to you because you bled more and he got the decision or stoppage?
jon bones jones learned most of his moves from DVDS and anderson silva has even learned some moves from movies and dvds' look at thje knockout he did to tony fryklund
he was also light heavyweight champ ..beating Heath Herring. and they said he originally taught himself how to grapple from videos live on the air during a UFC event. "lol"
well of course he trained alot. but if you couldn't learn from tapes none of the great fighters would make them. it's come a long way since the supposedly instructional videos that were actually more of a demo. i'm not saying you can just watch some videos and know what you're doing, but its not so different than a person teaching you
learning and practicing are two different things. of course you can't grapple a tape. but if you don't have a grappling school near you tapes/dvd's are a great alternative. same could be said about boxing videos, you can learn from them, but its like swimming, until you get in the water you won't know for sure.
you seen that when he didnt post the back of his neck he stood up. if he starts to stand up, grab the back of the head anyway and lay in a good knee to the face. not sure if thats legal, but hell it would work in a street fight. Most of the time they will fall backwards after a knee strike then you can re- mount (or take side control again).
Unfortunatly they dont make the rules, the athletic commision does. It sucks but at least the government didnt ban mma entirely. I think M1 is going to be using Pride rules with the addition of elbows to the head.
I think they should just allow knees on the ground, and then it's good enough. Soccer kicks are just too dangerous to get allowed in any sport who wants to get bigger and recognized properly in the whole world.. exept if you are kicking balls :P
The soccer kicks and stomps were fine enough and made fighters think twice before taking things to the ground, the kicks never gave lasting damage unlike elbows opening cuts. The Pride rules didn't let barely decent wrestlers get such easy takedowns.
The Pride rules also prevented all that stalling on the ground, because there wasn't really a safe position to stall in. A North south position for example just turns into a stalemate most of the time now, whereas it would have been game over for the dude on the bottom.

I guess since the soccer kick is illegal, you can easily transition to an uppercut style punch, you have to bend more, but this is an awesome setup.

Watch, soon they are gonna regulate elbows... if they don't ban it, they'll force the fighters to wear thin pads to prevent cuts...

Yeah... I agree... I would hate to lose to a cut if I'm winning... Thin pads sounds great cuz It won't effect the damage, just the cuts...
D26808 2 years ago
yeah, the trick will be getting them to stay in place and not interfere with submissions.

Because you put yourself into a position to drop a bad ass elbow on a professional athletes face. How is that not technically superior?
