  • Legends of the Hidden Temple was my favorite 90's Nickelodeon game show aside from Wild and Crazy Kids xD

  • They use "IV" instead of "IIII" because iv fits the logo of final fantasy 4

  • @GalufTheInvincible Actually, 'IIII' doesn't exist in Roman numerals. IV is the correct way to write '4', like he said in the video.

  • Comment removed

  • the 'iv thing was invented by clockmakers, the romans used 'iiii' etc. So there's historical precedent for the foul-up

  • 00:59 is that another Lurch reference? Lurch ftw! Besides: Can't wait to see the rest of the series. Good job so far, HC.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if HCBailly actually gained a few subscribers for giving this video the title he gave it. That, or he gained a lot of haters. But, screw them, he did say this was a video game.

  • "why do the ancients have a gun"

cause some guy jacked a itty bitty baby, and he never was gonna be the same.

they wanted to make sure they had a gun.

also the JRPG trope were 'The Ancient Civilization is more advanced then yours' (Mass Effect also applies, although there a explanation for that)

  • How does an emulator work with multiple disks?

  • Yeah, we may currently use IV as 4 when referring to Roman Numerals. However, if you look at almost every single clock with roman numerals, you'll find IIII as 4. There isn't a perfectly set standard for roman numerals. A quick Wikipedia search (I heart wikipedia) gives a quick detail of 29 being XXVIIII on the colosseum, while 44 on the same building was XLIIII.

  • The music in this area always reminded me of Metallica's "The Call Of Ktulu".

  • "Hi mister Cetra. Can I please save my game?"

This game has some weird fourth-wall issues.

  • Hahah, this is one of the funniest of this series so far. the intro, then "let's see what this guy has to say... Nyum nyum?!" cracked me up.

  • IIII is correctish, it was present on old clocks and so forth. It's meant to be more balanced against the corresponding number VIII on the other side but It's not really used on clocks now though (not ones I've seen), it probably just dropped out of convention since it's technically being incorrect for the sake of aesthetics.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, the old roman numeral, and the one used in clocks, for 4 is IIII

  • @ikbenbeterinclubpeng No it's IV.

  • @karagkiozis1821 I'm saying the OLD one. The very old one. It was changed after some time in order to save space. I didn't do 3 years of Latin to not get my facts straight.

  • Man, this game is my everything. I love it. So many memories.......

  • *sniff* I haven't watched Legends of the Hidden Temple since I was a little boy. I get all glassy eyed over that opening. Even the college I attend has their free-access student computer lab renamed the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. I was wide-eyed when I first saw that.

  • 5:28 The first bit of Sephiroth we see entering the screen is his enormous... weapon.

  • lol at the opening, that show was awesome

  • When I got to that flashback scene with Tseng and Sephiroth, I started reading Sepphy's dialog in the voice of Mr. Popo from Team Four Star's DragonBall Z Abridged. You can no longer convince me that it's not a perfect fit.

  • @MigeulP It would've been perfect.... IF IT WEREN'T FOR 4KIDS!!!

How much you bet that they awfully dubbed it? (FYI, Mr. Popo IS. NOT. BLUE!!!)

  • @Funnystuff1700 Where did 4K!ids come from? Sure, their cut of the Dragon Ball Z Kai is by-far the worst (Vegeta telling Nappa to give Krillin time to get his friend off the battlefield, for one. You know censorship is fucked when they don't even allow the villains to be properly condescending), but they have literally nothing else to do with DragonBall in general, and I was talking about Team Four Star. Specifically, Lanipator dubbing Sephiroth as Mr. Popo.

  • @MigeulP They originated from some dude that thought of turning those seemingly 'appropriate' animes into child-friendly material. Don't know who, but he did create the worst buisness in all of television (Besides *GASP* the Congress Channel).

  • @Funnystuff1700 No, I mean where were you getting 4K!ds from in my comment?

  • @MigeulP 4Klids actually did an English Dub of Dragon Ball Z... terribly. They made the series fucked up badly.

How I got 4Kids? You talked about Mr. Popo, and the first thing to come to mind for me: Blue Popo of 4Kids. POP IS NOT BLUE.

  • @Funnystuff1700 No, they did not do an English dub. The aired Dragon Ball Z Kai on their Saturday morning programming block, and ordered the most censored cut of it yet. The changes were made at their request, but not by them.

And this is a good example of their being a time and place for everything. For example, someone saying Lanipator being the perfect VA for Sephiroth is NOT an appropriate time to bitch about Blue Popo.

  • Enough with the Avatar!

  • You think they'd know roman numerals since they use them in the titles of their games. Maybe they were confused because Final Fantasy IV was Final Fantasy II in the US or something? lol

  • @DJGamer Because it was the Second FF released in the US, thats why.

  • the gun was left by sephiroth that instigating bastard!

  • so... saying the makers of FF don't know roman numerals? like, you know how every game uses them for the name. lol XD

  • You are the definition of awesome HC. Epic legend of the hidden temple references. Made this episode 10 times more fun. Brings back memories of sitting and watching that show on the edge of my seat when I was younger. And I am TOTALLY with you, I wanted to host uh...what was that show. The thing with the giant head and the cast of All That was usually on it and they had to guess what the kid's talent was. I can't remember what it's called.

  • @NachanDesu Figure It Out!

  • @Jimeeeh YES that was it!! Haha. God I loved that show.

  • Man, Aeris gets her ultimate weapon already? She's going to be a powerhouse through the game! ... why are you all looking at me like that?

  • I always thought those rocks looked like big packing peanuts...

  • i cant believe i skipped the city before that...

  • 1:46 The stoll it from people who DIDN'T GIVE THEM TEA!!! Sorry still have ep. 56 in my head

  • @Rockerbro3371 that is so funny on that ep. now that i read this i am gonna watch that ep again! lol

  • 0:50

That guy reminds me of one of the NPCs in .Hack//GU.

  • Almost a spoiler slip in this one :)

  • @xavgui100 I agree can't someone just take it when Sephiroth is asleep or when he's not looking, or in the back of the former Shinra prez and Tifa sorta used it WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY back in ep. 25 or 26

  • Comment removed

  • one of clouds weapons reminds me the masamune you know sephiroths sword that is ,as they say in ffworld.com,legendary

  • That wasn't you rappelling from the ceiling HCBailly. That was Kirk Fogg.

  • Why they have gun, you ask? Because in RPG's, ancient civilations have advance tecnologity compare to others

  • @MrMK109

RPG Cliche #99: Law of Reverse Evolution (Zeboim Principle)

Any ancient civilizations are inexplicably much more advanced than the current one.

  • lol kinda ironic that they cant do roman numerals ya know... with the whole numbering the games with numerals and Organization XIII in Kingdom hearts.

  • Nice intro, I did enjoy watching Legends of the Hidden Temple every so often. It actually hasn't been on in my area lately because the channel that it had been airing on, was removed from the line-up. And I don't think that's water. I think it's primordial soup. Like from the Hercules era. My older brother got me into the show actually.

  • I remember that show! I used to love that show omg. That was the GREATEST INTRO! Haha... I always wanted to participate in that game when I was little too. Too bad I lived in the Philippines before moving here.

  • that was one of the greatest intros i have ever seen...well done HC well done indeed

  • the gun is for emergency attacks.

  • *Sephiroth stabs Tseng*

HC: Well that wasn't very nice

    I lol'd

  • IIII was the original representation for 4 in Roman Numerals because IV represented the God Jupiter

  • Best game ever

  • lol i luved that show when i was a kid almack used 2 creep my lil sis out and my mom said i couldnt watch it when she was awake

  • Fucking Awesome Intro

  • u know the living souls that red XIII's grandpa said. the liquids probably that

  • "Nyum nyum" is still nowhere near as good as "YOU SPOONY BARD!!!!!!!"

  • Because, like the other Final Fantasy Games, the people from the past are like Lufenians in FFI and the Ancients (Who built the underground place near the Crescent Moon) in FFV.

And your Intro was GREAT!!! And I LOVE TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAA!!!

  • @JohnDXCenaHas2Words You know? Like discovering stuff, making inventions like mazes, magic spells, airships and more.

  • sephiroth's appearance in the temple is so damn epic =]

  • Do not reach into the hole for the materia HC... There will be a Temple Guard who will grab you and you will have to surrender a piece of the medallion! Lucky your not a girl, you get fondled on the show too.

  • I fucking hate the clock room to the core, with a passion. Possibly my least favourite place in any RPG game.

  • You can actually write 4 as "IIII" as well, HCBailly! (:

But it's not the common way to write 4.

  • It's true that the roman numeral for 4 is IV, but when on a clock, it is IIII. Who knows why.

  • I heard it throws the numbers off a little on the clock when it is written as IV so they decided IIII is better. Thats what I heard I don't know if it's true

  • Never argue with item logic. RPG Lesson # 4

    Sephi broke the 4th wall.

"IV the way they take their drugs." XD

  • ok this makes no sense in crisis core aeris has no powers like this at all!!!

  • Sephy breaks the 4th wall XD

  • The beginning was win XD

  • Well regarding the gun question.. the acients came from another planet.. so they could have weapons there..

Its just like the figther jet in bone village :p

  • HCbailly your a fucking legend ;)

  • the rocket punch is for berett

    lol

  • The "groan" you make at 0:57, that is supposed to be Side-show Bob, right?

  • 2:54

    HI-OOOOOH!!

  • I wanted to host several adult game shows when I was a kid and convert them to Kid format

  • Breaking the fourth wall lol Sephiroth and his large butter knife xD

  • fun!

  • the roman numeral for 4 is IV, much like the way they take the drugs when they make this game xD

  • last time i checked, sephiroth was a lefty

  • lol 8:15

  • I Loved that show.... WHatever happened to Nickelodeon?

  • @dwillyerd Disney. Last time I saw nickelodeon they were trying to move with the times like Disney channel. Or thanks to Disney channel.

  • Wait what was Legends of the Hidden Temple? I'm not from that time era... only 13... or I just didn't watch enough Nickolodeon from what I can see.

  • legends of the hidden temple was a great game show i hope they bring it back with new episodes, traps and mysterious mayan temple guards and HCBaily is the host

  • @bladestar85 I agree, I remember I was about 8 or 9 when it first came out, I loved it, I stopped watching cartoons, which is rare, just to watch a X-Sports show... I miss it, just like All That and Amanda Show

  • 6:37 - Ownage

  • Lots of clocks have IIII. I've heard that is was because of the English King Henry the Fourth. They made clocks after him and he couldn't make up his mind between IV and IIII. Or so I learnt on wikipedia a while back.

  • Really? I would have thought that numbering system would be well in place by the time King Henry IV (IIII? :p ) came around. Interesting though.

  • Roman numerals were around since the Roman Empire, but they probably had forgotten proper usage for some special cases by the middle ages.

  • HEYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • HC, i'd vote for you to be host of Legend of the Hidden Temple.

Wait, we don't vote for that?

  • Is it just me or does the Temple bgm sound just like Edeas theme from FF8

  • i think its IIII because in japan they use it like that but idk

  • My answer to your uestion, HCBaily is that YouKnowWho left it there for our benefit, he actually wants us to succeed and well, we coulda missed that Sniper CR.

  • "Luck Plus" is called "Lucky" in the Japanese version (as "Magic Plus" is "Magical"). Hence the weird translation; it's another instance of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing on the FFVII localization "team".

  • nice intro! :-)

  • HCBailly, never follow the temple guard

cause if he catches you you have to give up one of your pendents you won in the challanges! and you only have 1 and 1/2 of a pendent!

  • This is really bringing up child hood memories for you people isn't it?

  • The fact that four is written as "IIII" is deliberate, because it was more common to write it in more anicent times - this is the Temple of Anicents. (Hope you don't mind this comment, it's amazing how many people don't realize the IIII/IV thing was intentional.

  • lol thank you omek

  • LMAO at the intro. You are the best LPer ever, HC.

  • viva Nintendo!!

  • No. They no longer sell video games. They sell scales to house wives now.

  • Actually if you get hit by the spinning rocks it doesn't damage you it just pushes you back to the start of the rock thingy.

  • 1:47 i see what you did there. nice wayne's world reference very subtle. what am i gonna do........with a gun rack?lmao

  • I love the opening to your video man! XD

  • If you follow the whole "Final Fantasy X and X-2 are prequels to the world of Final Fantasy VII" then you might remember that they had rudimentary and rather ornate guns in X and X-2, and if the ancestors of the current Shinra family are primarily from the Al-Behd, the Silver Rifle might actually be an ancient weapon from an ancient peoples (albeit from another planet). Take a look at the Silver Rifle...it is a little alien-like and slightly resembles the ones in X and X-2.

    Whew.

  • ...........I choose to ignore the fact that X-2 existed. What does that mean for my version of the time line?

  • You do realize that FFX and FFX-2 is not related to FFVII in any way. Besides the fact that Shinra in FFX-2 mentions the use of planet energy for source of fuel and power, this idea is only a REFERENCE to the idea of Mako energy in FFVII.

  • According to Final Fantasy X Ultimania, Nojima deliberately created that link and envisioned the events of Final Fantasy X-2 as a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. Don't be snide to me, my geek knows no bounds.

  • yeah....as a spiritual prequel, not an actual one. Like I said, the ideas young Shinra had in FFX-2 is only a reference to FFVII, but the universe and world of Spira is not the same as Gaia of FFVII.

  • I miss Legends of the Hidden Temple so much. Great video, HCBailly.

  • haha, I love the legends of the hidden temple references. I also liked, "It looks like Sephiroth is breaking the fourth wall."

  • lol omg that gameshow was epic

  • horray for legends of the hidden temple

  • because 1 became a thug and made a gun so he could beat the crap out of people for money items the usual stuff in final fanasty

  • Thank you for the help x333

  • love the beginning lol

  • HCbailly you should use the morph on the rhinoceros looking machine in the junk yard where you get titan it gives you a item called attack source

  • LOL XD thank you almack XD XD XD

  • lol HCBailly ur pretty cute

  • Star Tropics 2 reference...I can't even beat the first one...

  • Actually, 4 would sometimes be written as IIII in the Middle Ages. Of course, that was mainly because of illiterate clockmakers.

  • How can they not know that four is "IV"!?

Don't they remember making Final Fantasy IV?

  • mabye one of the spirits was part of the N.G.A........or mabye was a stalker or a murderer.......

  • have you notice they don't tell you if it is good luck or bad luck. i know it's good luck but i just had to say it.

  • Wasnt that like the best game show ever lol.

  • the rocket punch is barrets weapon

  • That place always reminded me of M.C Escher.

  • lol, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Final Fantasy crossover.

  • some crackhead ancient long time ago gave a prophecy: "the one who shall use this gun will appear~ so make one."

    ... i dunno.

  • almost sounds like a field of dreams reference lol.

  • haha best video editing by far

  • HC, you are the crazyest guy I have seen on youtube, and in a good way( and in a good way). love the clip useage.

  • lol the start was classic man....purely classic

  • this is still disc one? by god!

  • disc one is the longest...it speeds up after this disc...i think probably because you spend so much time training or doing sidequests

  • OMG! I never noticed the roman numerals thing! And I've played this game so many times!

  • they have a gun to protect themselves from temple people that loot temples? my idea anyway

sorry i couldn't remember what they were actually called :(

  • Well, how come they have a gun for Lucca in Chrono Trigger in 65 million years BC? 65 MILLION YEARS BC?!?!

  • How comes that inn every rpg you carry armors, weapon, accesories, hemets, and a lot of them, and you can't see them..

    AND YOU CAN'T SEE THEM!?

    A: Game's magic >_>

  • And why is getting stabbed lethal, but getting crushed by a giant mech isn't?

    A: RPG logic. Go figure.

  • Yeh... you know... The rpg's have his own magic and logic after all :)

  • oh my gosh, I LOVED legends of the hidden temple! *reminences*

I was on the same line as 42jemini. I got nervous right when the kid entered the hidden temple! I'm all sitting there like "don'tletterebeaguardinthatroom don'tlettherebeaguardinthatroom don'tlettherebe...EEEEEKKKKK!!!" XD

  • Morph is good for getting Turbo Ethers.

  • Oh man, those Temple traps are really nasty, even to an experienced player! But it's definitely like some really twisted Legend of the Hidden Temple.

  • Why would the Ancients have a gun? I'll answer your question with another question: Why would they have a baseball bat with a nail sticking through it?

  • Legends of the hidden temple. I used to jump every time a temple guard came out. It scared me.

Thanks so much for the memories.

  • "The notation of Roman numerals has varied through the centuries. Originally, it was common to use IIII to represent four, because IV represented the Roman god Jupiter, whose Latin name, IVPPITER, begins with IV. The subtractive notation (which uses IV instead of IIII) has become universally used only in modern times. For example, Forme of Cury, a manuscript from 1390, uses IX for nine, but IIII for four."

    From Wikipedia

  • Legends of the hidden temple...Ah the memories...

  • well thats gaming logic for you.

  • :')

that intro still cracks me up :P

  • I just relized that those guys in the begining of this video who don't really talk are Blackmages!!!

  • No, I actually really understand that boyhood dream of yours. I always wanted to go on the show (but I was still too young by the time it ended), but I'm convinced that my friend and I will remake the show, with him as the host, and myself as the voice of Olmec. You may laugh, but I think its fate. Dee Bradley Baker (the voice of Olmec, and, oddly enough, Wakka in FFX) has the same birthday as me. He is exactly 20 years older than me. So there. Its fate.

    ....SHUT UP!

  • Wakka was voiced by John DiMaggio, the guy who does Bender in Futurama.

Dee Bradley Baker did some incidental characters in FF X-2

  • And Rin was done by Tommy Kenny...the same guy who does Spongebob Squarepants. Slight difference in characters, no?

  • Really? Well, at least he voiced Wakka in Kingdom Hearts. Could've sworn he voiced him in X as well...

I know John DiMaggio voiced Migello and Gilgamesh in XII, though (the latter of the two being some absolutely BRILLIANT work. ^^)

  • But where was the Shrine of the Silver Monkey?

  • anichents what to gun ur @#$ down!

  • Too... many... LotHT references... Going... into... seizure...

  • I never watched Legends of the Hidden Temple when I was a kid..maybe I was too old for it when it came out, but anyway, the opening to this episode was absolutely hilarious!

Arrgh, the clock room; I fell down so many times..

  • The ancient's were chinese?

  • I love how you made this episode into a giant reference to Legends of the Hidden Temple! This was great. My roommate didn't even know what Legends of the Hidden Temple was when I asked if he had watched it... what a deprived childhood he must have led.

  • OMFG....Olmec thanks so much for giving me a chance to relive my childhood there. Almost as good as Double Dare. Thanks Bailly xD

  • The Silver Rifle is part of the Cetra's Werewolf Protection Insurance Policy. You never know when you'll get attacked by Werewolves.

  • OHHH the NOSTALGIA!!!!

    Damn YOUUU!!!!

  • i hate that temple my least fav part of that game :p

  • I loved your quote about the roman numerals. Programmers make some errors in video games but it's the video game testers that are suppose to catch that.

As for the gun being in the temple, maybe the Turks dropped it while they were in there and the Ancient decided to hide it in a chest in a room with him so no one could get it. But I guess that's a fail XD

  • I was a fan of the silver snakes and the blue barracudas. Usually one of those two teams would do well in just about every episode I ever watched. If you want to see this show, you could start by looking through the tomb of ostrich god then climb down to the crevice of coagulation...

  • Great Episode HC. =]

  • that show scared me so much when i was small x]

  • i loved the beginning i loved that show as a kid great ideas you have!!lol

  • "The roman numeal for four is IV, much like the way they take the drugs when they make this game," is the funniest thing I've ever heard you say.

  • Legends of the Hidden Temple, that show brings back memories, so what team is Cloud on? The Red Jaguars?

Also the reason the gum is in the temple is because it is a 'holey'. It makes people holey.
