  • Matt Simmons, a prominent oil investor who argued the world was rapidly approaching peak oil production capacity, died suddenly on Sunday August 8th 2010 of an apparent heart attack at his home in North Haven, Maine.

  • The pipelines to pupm sea water into wells is for the new Saudi project of the heavy oil field Kurais, in principle is not for Ghawar

  • Not according to the Wall Street Journal.

  • if peak oil were for real we'd be hearing a lot more about it - my guess is it's a little Y2K-like

  • not really something you should guess at. I have seen some huge front page articles in papers about peak oil when prices were heading to$150.

The news tends to be story and thus people orintated. If a problem is not about an individual personality that can be changed it is not really talked about.

Look at news from the 30's most of it is crap about things that mean nothing today. The clear run up to WW2 was hardly reported. look at some evidence rather than guess

  • I don't think people are talking about it because of denial. Nobody is going to go out there advertising the end of the world unless they want to look like nutcases. Peak oil is not going to be seen in the mainstream media. If you want to know about it then you have to read about it in books like the one he's showing.

Now do I believe in it. Well, I think it's a good idea to at least prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I think that's the best thing anyone can do.

  • Per your Matt Simons vid of 1 year ago. Not much has changed has it? Peak Oil is falling on deaf ears, people overwhelmed by a crashing economy. The Peak Oil train has left the station and there isn't a whole lot we can do about it.

    Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

  • Nice video. I have read the book and share youre concern. Some people might think that peak oil is "of the table" as the prices has hit rock bottom. But they don´t understand demand destruction. Look at the world economy. Cleraly 150$ oil is way to high to bear. Housing has burst, banks is in serious trouble, record unemployment, interest rates at historical low. The US alone has cut car milage by a distance from the earth to mars. Whenever things pick up, if they do, oil will skyrocket again.

  • I do believe the government Is highest to blame for Oil shortage for one thing I must have a

Truck but other times I can use a small Car but the stupid government with all the legal shit

makes It too expensive to drive both a Truck and Car.

  • My Truck and Jets use too much fuel. The government could make roads for smaller slower vehicles Who wants to be tail gated by a semi and there Is a Man that uses solar energy to make Hydrogen enough for His house and Car.

  • Yeah, yeah and opinions are like assholes...everybody's got one.. All I can say to you and Mr. Simmons is, this dire prediction about running out of oil has not yet taken place. Until it does, take a chill pill and organize your friends and neighbors, start a collective garden, can foods, save water, medicines - enough so that you can survive for 6 months. DO SOMETHING!!!!

  • Sounds like chicken little - the sky is falling! Energy is everywhere; sun, wind, waves, hydrogen. Not to mention resonance technologies patented 100 years ago by Tesla (alternating current, the coil in your car, microwaves). Westinghouse, GE and others have been sitting on these patents. Why? to sell oil. The end of this tyranny is cause for celebration not dispair..Hurray!!! Oh, there's a catch...mankind is going to HAVE to learn to work together as a team.. Childhood and tantrums are over.

  • Instead of being cute, why not read "Twilight In the Desert?" It is written by a Texas investment banker who was an advisor to Bush. The man read 200 reports by the Society of Petroleum Engineers. READ!

I also recommend "End of Oil" by Paul Roberts. This book considers all options as alternatives to oil.

  • Good job of presenting your dire opinion. The end of the oil age is neigh. Is this a bad thing? Yes and no. Yes, because the "sheeple" have not INSISTED that their leadership work in THEIR interests. They will have to pay a terrible price for negligence. No, because the oil addiction will have to be faced and perhaps, with luck the entire species MIGHT not be wiped out. Will this require struggle? CERTAINLY. The moral of the story is: Just because you are comfortable, does not mean you are safe.

  • It is not my opinion. Rather, the video is a review of a book by Matthew Simmons. It is not Mr. Simmons' opinion either. It is a synopsis of the work 200 reports by the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Texas.

Mr Simmons is a world famous consultant on energy and an investment banker. He has consulted with many countries, including America, China & Saudi Arabia.

  • Scary times ahead. The only hope is in renewable energy, although oil can be manufactured from other materials such as coal, and apparently not far off expense wise than pumping it. And there's plenty of coal.

Hydrogen would be the utopian ideal, and I really just dont get why there isnt massive investment in the technology.

    Great vid though.

  • Hello RedMiltant:

While hydrogen has promise, please remember it must be made from natural gas. The better option would be the fuel cell that combines hydrogen & water to make electricity with water as a by product.

"The End of Oil" by Paul Roberts covers every conceivable alternative fuel option in detail. Roberts is a fine writer. Check him out.

Live and Be Well / Mike Hogan

  • I was under the impression that hydrogen could be separated from water using an electric current. How feasable it is to do it to any great degree I dont know.

What I meant was the water and hydrogen fuel cell as suggested. Wouldnt it be fantastic.

    Ill check that book out.

  • Hydrogen is combined with oxygen and an electric current is produced in an electrolyte. Water is the by product of this process. It is not only feasible, it is being done and the product is called a "fuel cell." There are companies doing it, including the big automakers.

It is still large and therefore, not easily adapted to the car. However, it would be useful in power plant operations.

Please read a chapter on th fuel cell in Paul Roberts' book: "The End of Oil." No Alternatives in T In t D

  • Cheers for the info, ill see if I can get hold of the book.

  • Hydrogen is a form of storage (like a battery) not an energy source. There are better batteries than hydrogen.

Coal is still abundant, but it's still enviromentally costly since you burn it to get energy in form of electricity or heat. And burning means oxidizing. Try to burn sth without oxygen. Chemistry 101 ;-)

Renewables have their pros and cons, but before you take it look at it carefully. Solar panels are completely useless in countries like UK (not many sunny days).

  • Hello Hogan(?)

1)Have been following Peak Oil for some time now... Have come to believe that world production has already peaked or plateaued (spelling?)

    2) Checked out a couple of Your other videos.

Don't know how hot it is in NJ. Was 102 degree heat index here in IA. yesterday, and for a 10 minute video where potentially thousands of folks could see. I'd button my shirt, leaves a bad visual impression. Just constructive thought. Not meant as a put down. Enjoy Your content!

  • In reading Simmons' book, it appears the Saudi's are facing peak oil. Check it out. If the Saudi's are facing peak oil, the whole world has hit the peak and it's downhill from here.
