I loved this song when PJ covered it. I remember that my girlfriend left the CD single wedged underneath my windshield wiper for me to find when I got out of work. A great time for music.
@ShadowLord3220 Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I think it's the fact it's the confidence and acceptance in the vocals that makes the lyrics so brutal. There is the sense that the narrator has come to terms with the tragedy that has befallen him; that the death of his sweet heart shall be ineluctably linked with his whole being until his death, causing him to sacrifice his life "to be good so [he] can see [his] baby when [he] leaves this world", for their love transcends time.
This is a great song, lyrics are incredible. I used to love Pearl Jam when they came out with their Ten and Vs. albums and then my interest waned. This song has rekindled my interest in them.
I know alot & i mean alot of people who were killed by drunk drivers here on the indian reservations, first time ever hearing this song &......it brings back memories of them people. Damn.....this song really hit the feeling. Some one special i know killed a friend to the both of us by letting him drive blankked out of it, next thing you know i got a call 100miles away saying your friends dead!!!...miss you alott bro we'll hangout someday again..R.I.P.
i like pearl jam and i like this song but it sounds like someone is stepping on his balls every time he goes for high notes...idk maybe its just me haha

eddie vedder is the luckiest MF in the world; THAT. DUDE. CAN'T. SING.

Not many bands can put out new music like Pearl Jam has for nearly twenty years, and have it all still receiving the level of critical acclaim that it does. Any band that can stay together that long with that many of its original members deserves all the praise they get.
And for Vedder's voice, what the hell are you talking about? Its how he has always sung, and it has done him well. So what if it is unclean, so is Bob Dylan's and Neil Young's, and how Cobain and Layne's were as well.

you might want to actually listen to a copy of 'harvest' before using the term 'unclean' to describe neil young's voice.
...and name some of the 'countless others' that tried to imitate bob dylan or pearl jam.
i bet you'll actually find the counting to be a pretty easy task.

as far as I'm concerned, this is Pearl Jam's song. Their version kicks the originals ass, this one actually has feeling and emotion to it.
