  • Sam Wainwright disliked this vid.

  • How can a scene be so incredibly lusty and a tear jerker at the same time?

  • Thank you , that is my absolute fave part of this movie ever!!! Love Love this movie

  • One of the hottest, steamiest scenes on film. . . AND EVERYONE IS FULLY CLOTHED!

  • I know, I know everyone likes the ending, but THIS is the best scene in the movie. Nice tight shot on the faces close to the phone. Mary Hatch: the great American girl.

  • I love this movie so much, reminds me of watching it over my gramas house on xmas, miss her so much. N miss those days

  • This is my favorite part! "HE'S MAKING VIOLENT LOVE TO ME MOTHER!!!" LOL

  • This scene shows the most romantic moment ever....just the way he looks at her...and smells her hair....no T & A needed...no cussing...pure talent..both onscreen and directing....Shame we don't get much of that anymore...

  • The beauty if sexual temsion

  • Oh yes, it's a wonderful scene!! I'm not the biggest Jimmy Stewart fan but I'm in love with this scene. :) Too bad they edited it...I wish they hadn't. lol

  • Cynlagasca:please, not coloured, the magic of the films of that age of innocence lies in the black and white.

  • One of my favorite Christmas movies.....I love this scene! T:)

  • I LOVE the tension between the two of them while on the phone.

  • Oh my dad really fucked up the whole experience of this film for me, When i was watching this movie with my mother and my father got home drunk so he started saying shit to my mother then the argument started after a while my dad who got so pissed and even angry threw the TV i was watching on and it wasn't just a TV it was 42inch HDTV, he just slammed it on the floor tearing it from the desk. So the fight started and i was so shocked and feared about what just happened. This is a true story.

  • @Sanaa2k sorry bout that. that really sux. u and ur mom okay? sounds scary.

  • @choptalk1 Yeah, we're ok sounds pretty scary doesn't it and my dad his a complete jerk.

  • i cannot breathe. every time. so perfect.

  • Donna Reed. What does she look BEAUTIFUL!

  • SINCE HE CAME BACK FROM THE WAR? I thought Jimmy Stewart was 4-F on account of his ear!

  • This scene is so powerful and romantic it brings tears to my eyes!

  • One of the greatest scenes of all time! Show me acting like that nowadays!

  • Oh my. James you make my heart do moves that would make a pilot nauseous.

  • hee haw

  • Man, they don't make actresses like Donna Reed anymore! She was a one-of-a-kind!!! Amazing acting, by a gorgeous woman!!!

  • Agree. It takes my breath away! You'll sigh and say,Really? they make great movies like this even before I was born? Watch it in colored.

  • ye ha!!

  • This scene really shows a man's heart and head in a battle, much like many a man's heart at LoveInterrupted.... Sigh....

  • This scene really shows a man's heart and head in a battle, much like many a man's heart at LoveInterrupted.... Sigh....

It's not anger at their love, it's anger at the situation, but they somehow turn it around and direct it at their love....

  • Love this scene, :))

It's such a gorgeous movie and donna reed and jimmy stewart are just amazing, -3

  • If those 5 people do not like this video, i doubt they will ever find real love

  • @MisterEnok 5 people use instant-messaging for their important conversations and will never know the value of real communication.

  • @RubyTuesday717 1 person should stop using the internet and instead use "real communication".

  • Man not only did James Stewart have telent, but he got the luck of playing alonside so many talented actresses in his films. Simone Simon in Seventh Heaven (known more for films like La Bete Humaine The Devil and Daniel Webster and the lead in the Cat People films though she was pretty good in that too) , Jean Arthur in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Katherine Hepburn in The Philidelphia Story, and Donna Reed in this just to name a few. I think this is probably the most romantic one he did.

  • Just watching this scene alone has reminded me of the brilliance of this movie - still my No1 all time favourite - I'm gonna have to get the DVD out and play t again. Thanks for posting and goodbye Ruby Tuesday (you see what I did there).

  • The Lost phone scene (Des/Penny) and this one..name greater phone scene. You can't.

  • @TheMatt875 I'll drink to that! Long live LOST, Jimmy Stewart and the power of phones with real cords.

  • @RubyTuesday717 Lost. Almost 1 year.Time flies. Except when you're on the island.

  • @TheMatt875 what about the phone scene in anchorman? top notch acting on will ferrell's part: "THE MAN PUNTED BAXTER!"

  • @homerrulezzzz Good point! hahaha. When is Anchorman 2 coming out?

  • This is so utterly in character - she longing to marry the guy but not wishing to be forward, he with a thousand reservations all dissolved in the perfume from her hair.

  • Gotta love the tension between these two!

  • James is fantastic!

  • One of the sexiest scenes in my book.

  • I keep coming back to this scene...

  • THANK YOU! Love it every time - it really is breathtaking and so perfectly done

  • very sexy

  • This is the BEST scene in the BEST movie of all time. Sexuality being displayed so discreetly but at the same time so overtly is unbelievable. The ending chokes me up more, but I must admit that the tension between these two characters is palpable beyond any other mortal movie's belief.

  • @tubbysidney It's just love. It isn't some horndog thing, you perv. People who love each other, are often attracted to one another. In case you didn't know.

  • @Sage80 You've totally misunderstood what he/she said. Attraction IS what he means by sexuality, there's nothing perverted about that. I thought that tubbysidney's comment was very appropriate, concise, and correct! That is what this scene is, a subtle and wonderful display of attraction! Attraction and sexuality are a vital part of love. So maybe next time, really read and process the comment before you attack it.

  • Love it!

  • my heart melts every time I see this scene. I miss this kind of subtle romance in movies. Now it's just making out and getting into bed right away.

  • I love this scene! It's pure love, and is one of the greatest love scenes for me. This movie is so simple, but is so sweet, and the best thing, for me, is Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed ♥ They make a lovely couple :)

  • Oh..George...you just brought me to my knees with this scene. Stewart set the bar with this movie, and I think it's probably never been equaled. Check Capra's American Madness film. GOrgeous cinematography, and one of the first to use overlapping dialogue. Capra was like Welles in many ways, and his cameraman was a god of light. American Madness is set around a bank, a fabulous interior, that one would seem it cannot be a set, as it is so detailed...but it is.

  • i love this scene. We named our dog George Bailey and he recently passed away R.I.P. and we're getting a puppy and naming him Harry Bailey...thats how much my family loves this movie

  • has anyone seen the colorized version of this movie?? I think this black and white version is better because you actually feel like your in the 1930s.

  • aw so cute, I just love this scene. I have studied this film so much...he is just such a great actor :)

  • stuart's finest scene. heartbreaking. of course, we have to thank capra for directing this scene. just perfect. i cry every time.

  • jimmy stuart's acting in this scene is probably his finest. when he shakes he at the end, insisting he wants to do what he wants to do... just heartbreaking.

  • he's making violent love to me mother.

  • This is such an amazing scene, it gets me everytime. The best part of the movie! I love James Stewart and Dona Reed is great too :)

  • @bobosinhell shutup

  • Perfection!

  • One of the most famous scenes in all cinema, and why is it famous? James Stewart forgot his lines. Don't blame him. WHAT A GENIUS. This scene makes me melt!

  • That's the way to finish fights between two people in love but crashing it,shut up and,

"we both listening,now"...remember/sense all about the other that IS.

  • This movie never fails to make me tear up. The pure love and compassion is stunning. Thank you.

  • What an adorable scene!!! You can see the emotion on Donna Reed's face building and that kind of emotion is beyond words. Donna Reed looked absolutely breathtaking.

  • Hee Haw.

  • Jimmy Stewart's the man in this

  • Movies today are just so boring, bland and awful compared to this - the tension leading up to the ending of this scene is just so well acted and planned...wow.

  • I Love it this scenes it's always make me laugh, great I love it James Stewart was co sweet & funny here:).

  • People love to rag on this movie as if it were some corny Christmas fluff - but if you watch it with a serious eye it really is a modernistic take on the conflicting desires and responsibilities of life - and as this scene shows, powerful sexual desire in film was around long before the 1960's or beyond - I usually have to take a cold shower after watching Donna Reed in this scene!! Yowza!!!!

  • @1953jazzman hit the nail on the head man.

  • I agree with so many other comments this scene takes my breath away how there attraction was so very strong it controlled them...

  • acting was sooo much better back then. they had decency and could feel the love and tension w.o getting naked

  • sexy.....

  • Did you know before this scene was shot they were using two phones? Jimmy Stewart's nervousness at the kiss take after take caused Capra to decide they'd share the phone, this being the result.

  • awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Worthy of Awesome! Thanks for sharing this video. It's a Wonderful Life is competing in the HolidayOff on AwesomeOff.

  • La vita è meravigliosa......se accanto a me ci sarai tu per sempre.........di tutti i film che ha fatto, questo era il suo preferito. James Stewart ..bravissimo !

  • I just love how he kisses all of her face, that's so passionate

  • My all-time favourite film. Every Christmas, I go to see it when the Glasgow Film Theatre puts it on for 2 weeks and I just lose myself in it. This scene just moves me like nothing else, just blows me away. I own it on dvd, but if you get the chance, please see it at your local cinema if they show it. It's great watching it with so many other like-minded souls, and the cinema's packed out every time. And as soon as it finishes, the Glasgow audience breaks out in applause! A classic film forever!

  • perfect

  • Thanks for posting this scene! I watched it today upon the recomendation of a person I work with. I was like, "Eh, why would I wanna watch an old black and white movie?" But then I did watch it... And it was amazing. Like the lesson it teaches you at the end about how your life effects everyone around you and how you shouldn't take your life for granted. You don't get that in movies these days.

  • THIS is a great piece of acting!

  • thats what you call GOOD ACTORS not todays shit

  • My favorite movie of all time. Priceless. Donna Reed is so sexy. Jimmy Stewart is one of the all time best actors.

  • @greymoose1000 My favourite movie too. Jimmy Stewart is the best! And yeah, Donna Stewart is pretty sweet. Christmas wouldn't be the same without it.

  • I'm telling ya, women today don't get any more beautiful than Donna Reed.

  • This is my favourite movie of all time. Many so called romantic/sexy movies could take lessons from this scene.

  • 3:05 Epic...............pure classic.

  • The greatest scene ever put on film. I`m sorry if you think that`s an extreme statement, but it just is. The acting, the direction, it` peerless.

  • she was so in love with george......the scene is epic.....zone girl

  • I Watch this movie every Christmas Eve and I tear up every time after "I wanna live again!"

  • she was in love with george Not the guy on the phone.....

  • @eihwazone George!!!! Who is George????? (joking) I used to live on Rochester Terrace. Leeds. i love this clip for that. X

  • we still use phones. Even nowadays...you can even walk around with them even in the street! Gosh.

  • I keep coming back to this scene....I love the movie, but this scene always takes my breath away. Thanks for posting it.

  • @ingridgrieg It was my pleasure--I posted it because it too is the one scene in the movie that never fails to take my breath away.

  • This scene makes weep everytime I see it.

  • @RubyTuesday717 When I first saw this scene. I'm like wow that's the most intimate phone call ever. Now I might get bashed for this but after the Oscars I decided to watch some classic movies I saw this and Casablanca. I have to say though Casablanca its kind of overrated sorry. Its wayyy too overly dramatic and Rick's character well he's kind of 1 dimensional till the end of the movie.

I liked Its a wonderful life alot better.

BTW this phone call was INTENSE!!

  • @ingridgrieg you must be at least 60 :) I saw it says 37 on your account but that's a lie isn't it?

  • @ingridgrieg Search for "Wonderful Life" on the App Store. The "It's a Wonderful Life" App for iPhone, iPod, and iPad: Plays sounds from the movie.

  • One of my favorit scenes too.

    It`s a chance of a lifetime.........and he did.

    Wonderful scene.

    Thanks.

  • *sigh* i love you jimmy stewart.

  • 3:20.....when he see`s her crying..........it`s amazing that a series of still pictures moving quickly past a light, can make you feel so much. The beauty of cinema.

  • I never thought about it before, but this scene also advances the theme of the movie, which is "people before profits". This scene is hot.

  • Everytime I watch this scene, I love it more and more.

  • @MadiMaeLetsPlay This just might be my favorite scene in cinema, it's that moving and brilliant.

  • You can feel the heat, can't you =)

  • @girl43 I was going to write some rambling piece about youthful yearning and the emotions that this scene evokes, but after seeing your comment, well it kind of summed up how i felt. Wonderful acting.

  • "He said it's a chance of a life time" 3:01 great acting indeed

  • cool

  • MOM!!!!! 3:30.

  • "Forgot my hat" lol

  • this scene never left my head, Jimmy Stewart was so sexy. HOT in fact in this scene. He definelty had a very deep manly part to him though it wasn't often scene in his acting.

  • Oh, why can't I find a nice and pretty girl like Donna Reed in real life? =( *sigh* Maybe because I'm not tall, dark and handsome (and a war hero) like James Stewart. I like how she breaks the record and makes him jealous while talking with Sam, and how George looks at Mary's mother as she goes upstairs.

  • I love this scene and the movie is a classic that will live on in all true American hears

  • LOL at her mother running away!

I just love this movie. :>

  • If people are wondering about "hee-haw". Well, Hee-Haw back then, the Cast of the movie were doing this practical joke by saying the phrase in the script without the director knowing. but it did last long.

  • @EJAXK13

    Really?! I didn't know that... :D Hee-haw!

  • Oh, the way he looks at her... Makes me melt

  • @olympusmons15 oh i know i love it too!!!

  • dolphran28...where on earth would the George Bailey types be in this day in age? I've always said I would love to marry Jimmy Stewart.

  • @ukluv ... You would likely find his sort among those of his fellow Republicans who favor Theodore Roosevelt, who favor both ecology and small independent business/enterprise. And probably among those who gather for Garrison Keillor's 'Prarie Home Companion' comedy/music concerts that are live-broadcast on NPR every Saturday night at 6pm.

Perhaps among book clubs that like C.S. Lewis. And maybe among those who became Eagle Scouts and attended Princeton. Not sure where he was at school.

  • Intoxicating!

  • To FuelledByForties- I'm no George Bailey, but I do try to live by his example. I think I'm at least1/2 as good. My wife says better. We're out there, but usually we are lucky enough to find women who appreciate us and are even "better" than we are. Don't give up. Just look in the right places. They might be closer than you think.

  • Thank-you, that has put a smile on my face. You and your wife sound like absolutely wonderful people and you sure are following a brilliant example x

  • I'm glad it made you smile. That's a great start. Everyone is more attractive when they laugh or smile. I know you'll find what you want someday- Be determined and don't accept 2nd best (nobody's perfect, so if he's not good enough early on- realize he's not gonna change- and move on). Best of luck!

  • Oh GuYs this is just a movie...and feelings are still the same between men and women.

  • Great scene from a great movie.
