  • Don't ignore the obvious,

    NAT KING COLE'S QUARTET

  • re: the speed up when recorded, didyaknow that Les Pauls

"how High The Moon" was also sped up?

Only reason I know is Buddy Fite, ( Portland Oregon, now deceased ) learned to play guitar not knowing this and did it perfectly.

  • Poor Harry Connick would bust two fingers if he tried this....

  • NatCole! He was quite a pianist.I knew he sang but holy cow, what a pianist!

  • No drummer...amazing... this shows you that you need a drummer to lay out a canvas of rhythmn...not keep timing

  • I love and miss you grandpa Oscar. I think about you everyday!

  • With Mosaic Records going to the original vaults and masters of these timeless recordings there is NO REASON why a crappy scratched up copy of this masterpiece should be uploaded here. I'm sorry, but show some respect to this music by uploading the best copy available. Nat's memory, the music, and all those listening deserve better than this upload. It's available.

  • @DrumTchr So tell me, are you going to supply the better copy to upload?? Hmmmm??? I wouldn't mind hearing a remastered, clean copy but jeez, people upload what they have. Personally I feel fortunate that they do.

  • @JazzcatSings I feel fortunate that people upload rare things. I've never uploaded anything. I need to learn how to do it. The Mosaic 18 CD collection of the Nat King Cole Trio won a Grammy for (I think) best historical release. All Mosaic's released are limited as to how many they will print and release. They made 10,000 box sets of this set. You should find it. I'm a drummer and this is some of my favorite music and over 95% of it has no drummer playing.

  • @JazzcatSings Also, much of the music, when originally released was slightly sped up by 1/4 to 1/2 tone. The Mosaic 18 CD release has all the songs pitch corrected so you hear them exactly the way they were played in the studio.

  • Oscar Peterson lived in Montreal when i Lived there i got to see him all over the city. I think Thank No one can even touch hm today not one I think between him and nat you have the top 2 players oscar 1st and Nat 2nd

  • Did anyone else realize after that there were no drums? Fast paced with a tight sense of rhythym I almost forgot there was no drummer. Completely awesome.

  • @VernWellington That's right. It was originally going to be the King Cole Quartet, but the drummer never turned up. (True.) So the other three got along without him. Pity these instrumentals are overshadowed by the singing. It seems like a waste of talent.

  • Impressive, if brief, display of Nat's piano chops, which usually got upstaged by his singing.

  • This masterpiece is from 1945, not 44 as stated. Whoever put the pics together could have been more accurate. When Oscar Moore starts to play his solo and later, instead you see his 1947 replacement Irving Ashby. A big faux pas! Most of the other pics include Nat's previous trio and even his later trio. Only 1 pic offers the correct trio of Nat, Oscar and Johnny Miller.

  • @hepcat2009 get over it, it's about the music not the video, to think this person went to so much effort to upload a video free of charge for our enjoyment only to be criticised by you, for shame.

  • Esto m' encanta!

  • Great to hear him up-tempo and really swinging!

  • Thanks for this, Nat was (and still is) much admired on this side of "the pond".

  • What times...it is nice to hear again the scratch..ha ha.. Thanks for posting it. It is a musical jewel.

Luis a meloman from Lima PERU Latin Amèrica.

    nnnn

  • Nat was an extraordinary musician and human being.

Knew folks who worked w/ him and his was a true gentleman.

Never be another like this one, never.

  • We miss you Nat.

No one can take his place, ever.

A real class act, in every way.

  • "Well ,I have lots of his piano work but nothing as good as this.

    (How can I say that?)

But I think you know what I mean!

    Thank you, Ritah166"

That is a comment I made on another posting.

You guys obviously have sourced better material than I have .

No wonder Oscar Peterson revered him.

    Thank you konidolfine

  • He was a big influence for Oscar Peterson (and he's a big influence for me now!)

  • Take me away!!!! This REALLY swings. What an amazing group the King put together. Like a great cup of tea, this kind of music relaxes and invogorates at the same time!!

  • Not only was Nat the greatest voice ever, he was also one of the greatest jazz pianists ever. There will never be anyone like him - truly one of a kind.

  • Nat was a piano virtuoso, like tatum and Oscar Peterson. Insanely talented musician.

  • Yes,I think too.

    He was a really "Virtuoso"!

  • He was a big influence for Oscar Peterson (and he's a big influence for me now!)
