Dave here. ". . . . . Sinatra sings the diminished syllables of his diphthongs." Hm-m-m. I'll have to make a note of that, with my spellings, of course. I liked Crosby and Martin with their intrusive mannerisms. I think I'll keep on liking them. };- ]

My first voice teacher, who tried to make me a crooner, always said that Columbo was the best of the crooners. Crosby does that silly groaning and Sinatra sings the diminished sylables of his dipthongs. Columbo has a purer style and sweeter voice.
Later crooners like Dean Martin followed Crosby with their intrusive mannerisms. They would have done better to to hav emulated the simplicity and integrity of Russ Columbo. I great singer.
No one like Russ. I think he lived in the home Rosemary Clooney later reared her family in on Roxbury Drive in Beverly Hills. God only knows where his career would have gone had he lived. He was extremely well-liked in the business. With that gorgeous voice and those gorgeous looks he was, well, gorgeous!
this wonderful crooner had hypnotic qualities when singing. it is such a heavenly sound. none better. such a sad loss. tragic. his voice starts the water works with me a voice with.such passion to stimulate our hearts and souls. oh what might have been we can only dream.
first time 12/19/09 i heard russ sing this song. agree with carrotjuse!!! russ is great music in minor key. russ sounds better than usual on this record. russ shows off his hidden greater voice which russ hid. love it *****rus shows a greater range of his voice in the recording. thank you for the post it is great ROGHARM

The best of the crooners, i think. Lovely tenor, handsome gentleman. A wonderful period in American music. Thanks for sharing this with us all.
