I adore this song so much, the lyrics were sung to me and my 8th grade chorus class by Yale's Red Hot & Blue and I simply adore the words, but moreover the song.
I've owned this recording for nearly sixty years and treasure it above all others. For me, the combination of the brilliant Little Molers group and this wonderful Fats Waller composition is elegant jazz that can only be described as sublime - it always affects me emotionally . Thank you so much for the feast of Nichols and Mole you have provided - with immaculate sound too.
I can only say that I'm like the proverbial kid in a candy store on your channel! So much to hear and enjoy it's hard to find time to comment on them all. I'm sure I'm not alone so I'll run through again and make time. Meantime - thanks once more.
@fatsfan70 - Listening to this on Ed Beache's "Just Jazz" in 1966 was a revelation for this listener here. My first copy was the recording I made on my mini-tape recorder by holding the microphone up against the speaker. It wasn't until 1974 that I got the Columbia LP reissue that this recording was on, and not until I went eBay crazy in 2000 that I got my mits on the actual 78.
I'm pleased to find a kindred spirit who has a history of loving this record. My first encounter with Miff was in the early fifties when I spent many happy Saturday mornings with a school pal who had inherited a vast 78 jazz colection from his father. When news of Miff's death came about 1961 he collected a small sum to send to his widow and they kept in touch for years. I still treasure my modest 78 collection but nowadays listen on cds where Miff is happily well represented.
We need more of this music today!!!!
