It is ironic (?) that 'Last Train to Clarksville' is prominant in this 1966 film short. Very early in 1966 Charles Manson was one of the 437 hopefulls who auditioned to be a member of the Monkees (derisively called the 'pre-Fab Four).'
Worst comb-over ever at :34. Great little docu -- missed the first half as it played lastnight on TCM. A very good comedic actress, much like Stella Stevens (ironically, both did Matt Helm flicks with Dean Martin). I always think of that Jim Carroll song: It's too late / To fall in love with Sharon Tate / But it's too soon / To ask me for the words I want written on my tomb.
For someone like me who wasn't born when this girl was alive and who's main reference of her is the circumstances surrounding her death, it's impossible to disassociate her from the heinous crime that ended her existence. Having said that, I must admit that it is actually refreshing to see what a beautiful, charming girl she seemed to be and God only knows what timeless icon she would have become had she lived.
Roman Polanski didn't deserve her, and Charles Manson CERTAINLY isn't worthy to have his name forever linked to her. I'm looking forward to the day when ALL of Manson's "family" (euphemism or WHAT?) are dead and buried. The world will be a better place without them in it. It is "Last Train to Clarksville" guitar and melody mostly. Curious, as this video was made in 1996 at MGM, but the Monkeys record (released in August 1966 in US and Jan 1967 in Britain) was a Columbia-Colgems product. Must have been some borrowing of riffs by the studio folks making this film's background track added to accompany when Sharon Tate is supposedly dancing with David Hemmings at an English club.
Very interesting but the bit of acting was hilariously bad - oh my god my sides have split. It is like watching a comedy. These brilliant actors all ended up in that piece of garbage. That is the 60's for you.
wonder what other films and soaps she would have done, dam them killers, what a terrible tradgedy. She should have stayed in London she would have been safe there.
Sharon is talking to a man from the studio at 00:34. He has the worst hair comeover I have ever seen! Please guys, keep it cut short and neat with no stringers.
This was great to watch. I've never seen her speak in an interview. I've always thought she was the most beautiful woman ever and she seemed just as beautiful on the inside. Such a tragedy she was taken away so young. :(
She was not just gorgeous...but when she spoke, she could melt you. And then working in the coolest time Hollywood ever had...I mean..partying, having fun...not like today where if you do a line you are on the front page. I miss those days. the 60s, 70s and 80s were great times. despite the problems.
Poor Sharon she was so young I bet she would have been a big movie star if it was not for those losers that ended her life may Sharon rest in peace and those bastards burn in hell
No doubt that Sharon was incredibly beautiful, but something about the movie industry that I dont understand is that why O why do they pay hairdressers and make up artists to do their best to fuck all that up???
They peroxided her hair almost to death and continually plastered her face with powder and paint - while she was radically more beautiful without this. Hers was the kind of beauty that is very difficult to destroy of course, but nevertheless they were blind fools to mess with it!
creolelady182 Sharon would be turning 67, and her inner beauty would still be with her, the only thing you are correct about is she would have aged, but she would never and will never be forgotten. so you need to think about that you big catfish.
She is the prime example on how her looks got her the big break and it also distroyed her. If she had lived Tate would have been forgotton because as time went on she would have lost the looks and also she got tired of making movies. I wonder how many of you would give her the time of day in 2010 where she would be pushing 70 years old
@creolelady182 How did her looks destroy her or even contribute to her death in any way? Sharon was the only one out of the nine Manson Family victims who had any celebrity status.
@xXPinkGoddessXx Jay Sebring was a famous mens hair dresser to the stars. And Gibby Folger was an heiress to the Folger coffee fortune. Who cares if they had celebrity status or not? These people were human and deserved to live no matter who they were.
@StaunchComic Jay and Gibby were known among Hollywood social circles but they were not household names or known among the public eye. It's of relevance because people often debate whether the victims' celebrity status had anything to do with their being targeted.
The house was targeted because it was once inhabited by Terry Melcher, who didn't offer Manson a contract for his music. I don't believe that Manson or any of them who committed this horrible crime even knew who Sharon, Gibby, or the rest even were. It was random and beyond disgusting. Sharon was begging for the life of their unborn child. I still cry for her. Roman has never recovered- how could anyone recover from that?
@xXPinkGoddessXx - I guess I read somewhere, at some time since then, that there was evidence that Manson went back to Cielo Drive, but I didn't know the facts. So much has been said and written throughout the years. There seems to have been a renewed interest the past few years since it's parole hearing time again. My family were friendly with the Folgers. Again, this was a very-long time ago now. Thank you for your information <3
@DBHuntington There was no evidence Manson went back except his word... and he still to this day says he never told anyone to kill people. So you understand what a liar is he. There are a lot of urban myths and inaccuracies about this case, people want a conspiracy where there wasn't one and certainly no evidence of one.
@StaunchComic Ok I get what your point is now. It's a sad story all around. I was to young to remember when all this happen but I did read that a lot of celebrities where scared they might be next. Good point!
@creolelady182 I guess we will never know her future. She never got the chance to prove herself she was only 26 when she was butchered. She was married to one of the most respected directors in film history who only just won an oscar so I think she could still be popular working in Romans films. Why do you think Tates beauty destroyed her? The manson family killed her because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time even if she was ugly she'd still be dead.
@creolelady182 - She'd still be gorgeous. We'll never know what she could have become, but Paul Richard would be forty years old and the world would be a sweeter place.
@creolelady182 Well..I know you are right about the masses who are coached by our modern media on what is and what is not beautiful, but I beg to differ. Those people, myself and probably you too, who just like certain stars over others, tend to follow them their entire career and some even further. The little cult following we have here..and I am a proud member is a testament not only to her outward presence but also to her ability to surround herself with friends. Good friends.
does anyone recall her biography on the biography channel? at the begining they showed professional looking photos of her and one where she was outside standing with flowers of some kid, that was the most amazing photo i've ever seen. what i wouldnt give to see that photo again.
@Rachulie I think you may be referring to 'Murdered Innocence' (which is still on Youtube if I'm not mistaken) and in particular, the photographic session shot by Walter Chappel. Do you want me to PM you the pic I think you're referring to?
@beepollen1 I totally agree, my favourites are valley of the dolls and 13 chairs, sadly 13 chairs isn't available on DVD, not to my knowledge at least.
What was done to Anita was done to those bastards, many times over, and yes, that means beatings and rape. Plus, they get shit in their food, scalded with boiling water, etc etc. They go through Hell every week.
Beauty that is photogenic is rare. I once saw the most stunning woman on earth and thought she had to be a super model, but her mother told me no agency would take her, as she looks awful in pics. I nearly fell into the pool with shock. Jet black hair, jade eyes, olive skin--- omg, she was a vision of perfection...
I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for mentioning that film. Why I had never heard of it before is a mystery, because I love Deborah Kerr and David Niven- I am now into part 5, and so very grateful to you. Yes, Sharon is another of my goddesses. XXX
she is one of the most beautiful women of history in regards to cinema. her death upsets people i think because she is sooo nice and genuine. anyone that follows her knows this. very upsettting.
"She had that thing you can't really explain... star projection." Isn't that the truth! I wish she was still with us instead of saying "she was" in every sentence. God she was beautiful!
Such a tragic loss even after all these years later. Such a beautiful woman and had such huge potential. Just watching her Biography on the Bio Channel. Very very sad...
how can you not love this woman? she is soooo gorgeous, very talented and a total sweetheart, i wish i could have met her. god bless you sharon and R.I.P we all miss and love you:)
I enjoyed watching this commentary on a little piece of Sharon's acting career. She was certainly a most beautiful woman. What plans are afoot to commemorate her memory - after all, it will be 40 years in August 2009 that she was so brutally taken from us all, and I'm just wondering if there are any new films, documentaries, etc. currently in the making to remember Sharon and the other victims of August 2009? Could someone please enlighten me?
What an incredibly Gorgeous Woman! Damn Bittersweet to see this promo video....and to know what was to come for her,and the other victims! Peace to their spirits!!!
Damn, she was one good looking woman. I hope they let Manson out just so he'll get wacked before he made it to the bus stop. that little midget prick.
Sharon was photographed quite a bit in 66 and 67 . I think less after 67. Most of her cheesecake photos were taken before she married Polanski. Much like Marilyn Monroe did cheesecake photos from 1950-1952 for publicity. Of course, Raquel Welch was the hottest property during Sharon's brief time in as a starlet. Sharon just didn't have the drive to be a top star. She was happy married to Roman and being a mother to be. I believe she did her last film 12 +1 in Europe for the money.
You are right hakeva. Ronsohoff did spend a fortune promoting her becasue she couldn't act her way out of a paperbag. The fact is because of her looks she went very far.
She was a rising star and her life was cut down by worthless trash. I am not sure how many photos of her exist but from 66--68 was when most of her cheesecake photos were taken. She really wasn't photographed much the last few months of her life. With the exception of stills from her last film " 12+1"
It is tragic to look at this mini documentary as she had such great potential to be a big star of the 70s. She really does bring the sixties sex kitten to tee.
oh dear God, she was so beautiful ...

I nearly fell into the pool with shock. Jet black hair, jade eyes, olive skin--- omg, she was a vision of perfection...

We can but dream...do you know what the inmates did to Anita Cobby's five killers?

No, just hang him by the scrotum. Sex offenders should not be kept alive at the burden of the tax payer.

I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for mentioning that film. Why I had never heard of it before is a mystery, because I love Deborah Kerr and David Niven- I am now into part 5, and so very grateful to you. Yes, Sharon is another of my goddesses. XXX

Sharon Tate will always be a beautiful angel.
She was a wonderful person who loved people and life.
Sharon was a rising star who should have had many more years ahead of her.
Sharon Tate belongs on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
God bless Sharon Tate.

Great piece on Sharon. "Girl on the go-go". Wonder how she felt about her voice being dubbed in this.
CliffordCarson 3 years ago
Her voice was dubbed here? How do you know? It sounds so much like her.

I don't think Sharon was ever the world's most photographed women, mainly because she was considered a starlet during the time of her death.
xXPinkGoddessXx 3 years ago
She was a rising star and her life was cut down by worthless trash. I am not sure how many photos of her exist but from 66--68 was when most of her cheesecake photos were taken. She really wasn't photographed much the last few months of her life. With the exception of stills from her last film " 12+1"
It is tragic to look at this mini documentary as she had such great potential to be a big star of the 70s. She really does bring the sixties sex kitten to tee.

The name of the song is Last Train to Clarksville but this is not by The Monkees (correct spelling) but a cover version.
moorlock2003 3 years ago
She and others were senselessly murdered while their murderers have lived long lives. Does this make sense?

Thank you! :-)

The girls are as much of murderers as Tex, if they deserve punishment they ALL deserve it.

Can anyone tell me the name of the song that is played at the beginning and onto Sharon dances so cute?? :-)

I love her at exactly 02:27. You don't see that expression on Sharon Tate very often

I like the fact that she wasn't taking herself all that seriously, the way hollywood people tend to do
she just wanted to be a fun, easygoing girl
