  • Actually, voluntary labeling of GMOs is legal. Check it out. usda.gov

If we want to eat non-GMOs, we can just buy foods with the organic label -- now US or European.

  • I totally feel you. Damn this was back in 2010! I had no idea then. Some things have changed since then. Organic has become more popular because more consumers are becoming aware. All food should been grown organically though. I too thought it may be a ploy until I become aware of this past year after watching a documentary free online called Ethos hosted by Woody Harrelson. I just uploaded a video of me asking people to sign the petition to label GMOs at the Just Label It website.

  • Balls to GMO food, but is organic food really to be trusted. I am getting organic food soon. GMO IS EVIL AND IS DESIGNED TO GENETICALLY MODIFY HUMANS. GOVERNMENT IS AGAINST US YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! JUST SCRATCHING THE SURFACE HERE !!! DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH DON'T TRUST WHAT YOU HEAR ESPECIALLY IF YOU HEAR IT IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA !!

  • que bonitos ojos tienes lindura !!!

  • Are you learning spanish..?

    I'm learning english..

We can help each other haha I love your accent =D

  • money money money. this is why. other wise they would care that it hurts us. But you know. it's more important who gets made fun of on the internet, than being posioned by our food. and for the record, angry militant vegans don't believe GMO everythings is why everyone is sick. just "you are a cow, that is why you have cancer, because you ate cows. we never get sick"

  • q bella eres mi cielo

  • Yes it is very truth!!! :O I know this because I saw a movie called "Food Matters" for college success like a week ago. I know everything you are saying I totally agreee!!!! :DDDD Thank you so much!! :D

  • The problem arises due to lobbying by the food industry in Washington D.C. As far as not showing GM labels, they don't want it to be shown because it would decrease their sales, as many recognize "organic" as healthy, and GM as not healthy. Because of the heavy lobbying, there's great subsidization from the country, toward GM foods, and thus the country would loose money if they accepted that labeling. Because there's not much subsidization toward organic foods, they remain more expensive.

  • Wow you're talking faster in this one than in Spanish XD

    I hope you answer me.

  • 3.5 As for the illegal bit, that's probably a function of corporate interference, yes. But I can't honestly say that I see anything wrong with preventing that labeling; until it has been conclusively shown that GM foods are more hazardous than non-GM foods, the increased productivity of GM foods that would be lost if people boycotted them due to ignorance is worth a gag-order. Just like with stem-cells: for our own good, we need the uneducated to not be allowed to choose on this issue.

  • Third: "GM foods are recognized as different and foreign by the human body..."

Yep. As is all food. In fact, anything that doesn't share one's DNA is considered "different and foreign" by the body and is destroyed. But there is no science supporting the assertion that the substitution of any number of gene sequences in food is any different than eating food that hasn't been engineered to have that gene sequence. It's all nucleotide chains that get broken down into individual nucleotides.

  • 2.5 We don't pay extra for organic food because of the label, but rather because of what it takes to get the label. It is much more expensive (in the short term, which is all that concerns capitalist production methods, at least at this point in time) to produce food without chemical nitrogen and pesticides than it is to go to a system of crop rotation because less food can be grown per acre.

  • Second: The main qualifiers for "organic" labeling have nothing to do with genetic modification, but rather the use of artificial pesticides and fertilizers. By "main" I mean that most foods that are not labeled "organic" are not certified as such because of their use of those products.

  • @soliloquyofthecloist Second: the qualifiers for "organic" extend way beyond excluding genetically modified foods. The most common disqualification faced by food from being labeled "organic" is the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides.

  • Keep spreading the word. I can tell you one reason why the U.S. doesn't label GMO foods.... Big time Lobbying by the "chemical" companies that make them. For example... Obama appointed Monsanto's Tom Vilsack to USDA chief... Mr. Organic Garden at the White House Obama. haha ...Our politicians favor big business not the people.

  • I think you should look up the facts: all crops are genetically engineered via grafting and selective breeding and have been for 6000 years. What we have now is faster ways to breed the characteristics we want in food.

Any new crop in the USA has to go through up to a decade of testing before it can even be submitted for human consumption trials.

Stop listing to the scaremongers...organic food uses unsafe and obselete pesticides in it's production and has NO proven benefits over regular crops.

  • @Hereticalable When it comes to facts you are way short of the acceptable limit.

" all crops are genetically engineered via grafting and selective breeding and have been for 6000 years" here is GM myth #1...GM crops are engineered to produce an organism that could not occur naturally as plants have bacteria and viruses inserted into them at a cellular level. This is not what farmers have been doing for 6000 years.

  • @Hereticalable "Any new crop in the USA has to go through up to a decade of testing before it can even be submitted for human consumption trials." Very good, you have combined myths #2 and #3 together here. GM crops are developed and tested by the companies that create them. They do not have to undergo environmental impact studies. In the whole history of GM foods there has been ONE human feeding trial consisting of one meal. It showed that GM DNA does not get broken down in the gut.

  • @Hereticalable "Stop listing to the scaremongers...organic food uses unsafe and obselete pesticides "Organic farming practices insist on safe use of natural pesticides. Organic accreditation depends on this. Should any infringement occur all certifications are lost for at least three years. Meanwhile GM farmers can grow and spray GM crops that suck up poisons or make them and spit them out...with no penalty (except for the environment, and us.)

  • @hebephoebe -ok let's consider this then-if the entire planet switched to mediveal, I mean organic farming we couldn't feed even 50% of the world. I would love to live in some food paradise where cows are massaged and my pork comes from pigs that are sung to and taken to disneyland once a month but the reality is unless you can come up with a way to get rid of over half of all humans we're going to do more research into GM foods as a way to feed everyone. GM foods have already saved millions.

  • @Hereticalable Please provide evidence where GM has 'saved millions'. As for 'Paradise Farm' I don't think that has or will exist anywhere, but organic farming can feed a growing population, (studies done by Michigan and Berkeley Universities) plus IAASTD report which show that organic farming is more sustainable, healthy and holds more hope for the future than GM crops and foods.

  • @hebephoebe - evidence? Look up the work of Norman Borlaug - his creation of higher yeild crops is credited with literally saving billions of people from starvation...farming is sustainable or it is not. That has nothing to do with organic or not. Are we talking about GM crops here or farming methods?

  • @Hereticalable You said 'GM foods have already saved millions'.Norman Borlaug did not use GM crops.

  • The ppl in working for our federal gov't are SICK. they know damn well GM foods KILL test rats when they inject them into their stomachs bc they wont eat it voluntarily. Ive got some great vids on the EVIL giant known as Monsanto on my page.

and Read SEEDS OF DECEPTION by Jeffrey Smith

  • Well done, hit the nail right on the head

  • you got a purdy mouth

  • Actually, in Pennsylvania, you can't even use the "organic" label for milk because the milk industry decided it "hurts their business."

  • A similar law banning the labeling of gm products just passed where I live, in Turkey. Now it's illegal to label GM products as such, and it's also illegal to label non GM products as "non GM". It's absurd.

  • Hormone injections doesn't count as genetically modification

Chicken that produce Omega 3 fatty acids in their eggs are genetically modified. Canada has those.

Genetically modified foods like fruits and vegetables are pretty much safe.
