  • Regardless of whether oil is biotic or abiotic, the key point to consider is the net energy return. For a source of energy to be useful as a primary source of energy, far more energy must be returned that used to extract the resource. As we move to more and more difficult-to-reach and lower quality resources, the net energy return on "fossil" energy is falling rapidly. Oil will peak when it's more economical to use alternatives or to be more efficient.

  • This guy is full of it. Why does the USA produce less oil now then in 1970 if his theory is right.

  • @KrunchyJD

Because they wanna take everyone else s !

  • Yeah right, why is the US so dependent on foreign oil, and produces less then in 1970.

  • @KrunchyJD the US isnt dependent on oil. its dependent on cheap oil...and currency wars.

  • Natural gas may be inorganic since it is found on sterile moons like Titan (a moon of Saturn), but oil is definitely a fossil fuel.

  • Peak Oil doesnt suggest for a second that we're going to run out of oil in such terms. Just that we will reach a PRODUCTION peak which will go into decline. People that are quick to call it a myth simply cant get their heads around the fucking concept.

For a factual example, the Majority of oil producing countries that have ever existed have already 'peaked.'

  • there is gigabarrels on the ocean floor sea life algae and plant life silt washed out of Pangea and covered eons ago. That is why it is so deep and why cheap high grade oil peaked in the 70s.

  • @850168035 Google Discovery backs theory oil not 'fossil fuel'

  • why would the major oil companies spend billion of dollars to go after oil shale, tar sands, horizon deep water rigs? It's because of high grading the easy to get shalow light sweet crude days are over. now the cost of fuel input to recover 1.5 barrels of fuel is 1 barrel in the case of ethanol.
