JAZZ Bass is what Graham and alot of FUNK Bass players use because of the sound. Or at least most of us followed LG's lead. I have a Japanese Fender Jazz Bass because of the Thumping and Plucking as The creator of the stlye Larry Graham calls it. So I have one because that's what Larry used. But MarloweDK could better speak on that.
Cool vid my bass brother! Happened to see Larry live this past 15th of November in my hometown in Holland. We had a blast but nothing this epic happened on stage although he did let some people take over some instruments including the bass. And no, it wasn't me since I was standing in the back sipping my beer and enjoying the show LOL. At least I got myself a t-shirt :-)
I liked when some of the guys occasionally played fingerstyle funky riffs, variety is great, and fingered funk is also great.. would opt for a bit more on this stage :P
@MarloweDK I only noticed the guy in the middle with a white P-bass, the one next to him with another Precision and the man before you who had a Stingray. (After I posted that comment)
@Crodon 3 Fender jazz, 3 Fender Precision, 2 Sandberg, 1 Sadowsky (I think) and 1 Semi hollowbody, dont remember the brand, but its my old teacher Bo Stief who is playing it

Larry graham is the reason i play bass, iv been playing for eleven months and im playing with my college's jazz band and im studying as a music major. he literally changed my life haha
that's not about competing, it's not a race or a contest, it's just that when you have a legend like Larry in a middle of 10 guys who have nothing to do there, it looks odd. you invite players like Marcus Miller and so on. those guys are good don't get me wrong, they are just out of place.
@t i dont think it was about that. i think it was about celebrating the instrument and giving a time/place where the instrument and its ethusiatists can have a moment just for them. trust me, this kind of thing is sooooo rare. guitarists, pianists, etc all have their moments and venues, but i can say firsthand, that where i come from, you have to wait a loooong time to see a show where original bass music is played, and you have to travel faaaaaar when it does. besides, legends would need money
