But, Harald didn't want to wait for a real battle, so he sent his warriors back to the chokehold of stamford bridge.

just one remark; most norse warriors would have SOMETHING of armor, leather coats or something, no "good" warrior, no "champion" would fight without decent armor; especially a kings champion, he'd wear a rich coat of mail to be sure, complete with iron/steel helmet

the english army consisted, even then, mostly of a Fyrd which were the levied masses, so they probably didn't own much armor, but the norse who came to england were warriors, the peasants stayed in scandinavia

@Baseballschaap "the Norwegians had left their mail coats at the ships and thus had to fight with only shield, spear and helmets." Norwegians were not prepered, it was yust 2 days after the battle of Fulford Norwegian army were taken by suprise, unarmored and separated from the rest of the army down with the ships.

Was Harald first known mistake and his last. He could have fleed and regrouped. However in the sagas tells he said, i wil not flee. Send for the army at the ships and bring armor!

@apocca During great battles it is common for men to fear end even to piss their pant. literally Such accounts you will find for many batles: battle of Mantineia, baltle of the nations, D-Day. I bet that i would react like this if i had to thrust my sword against a man and see him bleed to death. Much wrong displeyed in this battle, there were heavy fighting bbefore the battle at the bridge including saxon cavalry and the vikings had no armors as the armor were left done with the ships with 1/3 of the viking army 15 miles away.

And the saxons who pierced the viking from beneth did it from a boat, here the river is dry.

History shuld not be changed, atleast they kneew who won and showed the fact that the vikings fought nerly to the last man instead of fleeing as written in the sagas.

Although I'm from Asia, after considerable research, many cultures celebrate the heroics of the fallen, the generals involved in the struggle between factions.

Ultimately, it is the courageous, the tactically brilliant and the cunning that get the accolades. Here I find, Harold II to be an immense leader with the drive to meet Europe's most dreaded monarch Harald by force marching an army of conscripts against blood thirsty warmongerers. The strength of the English infantry is witnessed.

Although generally accurate this programme misses out mentioning Tostig, Harold Godwins brother, who had aligned himself with Harold Hadraada. Harold (G) offered to give Tostig back the Earldom of Northumbria. When Hardraada asks, at 4 minutes 40 "What can you give the King of Norway for his trouble?" The answer was" 6 feet of English soil, or maybe 7 as he stands taller than most men."
