Pad work was invented for trainers to get more involved in their fighters training. Most trainers and fighters look like circus acts training with pads.
As far as a training tool hitting the pads is the worst. As a fighter you are never going to hit someone with 2 heads and those heads aren't going to be hitting your gloves. Think about it.
i can agree in some way... but i will say that they are called focus mitts/ pads because it does help fighters focus on precision and accuracy with punches

It's a little rehearsed hitting drill so roger and floyd can show there ass. it's nothing special, you couldn't find one good thing to come out of that hitting drill, no endurance, no power, i guess speed but hitting that lightly on a hand pad makes you look faster.

Pad work was invented for trainers to get more involved in their fighters training. Most trainers and fighters look like circus acts training with pads.
As far as a training tool hitting the pads is the worst. As a fighter you are never going to hit someone with 2 heads and those heads aren't going to be hitting your gloves. Think about it.
2 pad work will only lead to bad habits.

padwork is not for speed or reflex. is to gain muscle memory. so the combos become second nature, coming out without thinking about them. just natural. you cant just throw a combo in boxing, its need to flow out. like a river, just go with the river. thats why pbf is so fluent in his boxing.

did any of you watch the fight? Mayweather did not win with fast reactions or pure speed. In fact hatton is pretty damn quick. Mayweather was a superior athlete and in my opinion his victory should be attributed to the accuracy of his power strikes. The pad work he flaunts doesnt do jack for reactions. Its a routine they repeat over and over. He doesnt need to even pay attention while doing it. Any exercise meant to work your reflexes DEMANDS your attention. Dont flame, just think about it

@cougar32v of coures it helps his reactions. the fact that mayweather nolonger has to pay attention while working the pads just means its now second nature. the speed ball is also meant to exercise your reflexes and most boxers can do that with their eyes closed. i have seen mayweather use that pad routine in the ring in an effective manner, so of coures it helps.

ive worked with a few different trainers (amatuer coaches) and each has a different way of doing pads...floyds style of throwing 100shots didn't work for me. I think Freddie Roach is by far the better training because his padwork replicates what's going to happen in the ring

It's a little rehearsed hitting drill so roger and floyd can show there ass. it's nothing special, you couldn't find one good thing to come out of that hitting drill, no endurance, no power, i guess speed but hitting that lightly on a hand pad makes you look faster.
