Well it's definitely not on the level of OK Computer or Pinkerton, but it's easily Top 5...and the Nirvana debate is pointless, because Nirvana got famous off of what Pixies invented. If you want to argue, argue about GBV vs. Pixies....
All nirvana really took from pixies was the soft-loud dynamic (and chord progression from umass). But if you listen to the unplugged mtv album all the songs are quite excellent including the covers without any nod to the pixies or punk. Cobain takes the meat puppets and bowie and old blues song and renders them in a simple and beautiful and new way that is pretty impressive. That same thoughtfulness is in a lot of song on In Utero too, i think.
@selrahc84 I don't know, Kurt himself said he wished Nirvana coud've been more like Pixies. And that's not saying I dislike Nirvana at all, but I favor Pixies a little more...but although In Utero doesn't seem like it flows as well as Bleach and Nevermind, it definitely has brilliant songs
@goldenarm20 Yeah. I got 2 Pixies tattoo's.. now i wish i had got a GBV one instead! Saw Nirvana same week i saw the Pixies. No contest there really. Saw Radiohead. Was bored with them. Saw Weezer. Dullards. And never saw GBV. Would trade all the above bands just to have seen GBV in Oslo this year.
@monkeygonetoheavensi You thought Weezer was dull??? I loved them, I think they're one of those bands that sound even better live...that said, their new stuff is disgustingly bad, but I'll take 2 incredible albums and 1 awesome un-released album...and it's unfortunate that you found Radiohead to be boring, their work is usually a level above everyone else's..but recently they've been much more experimental and mellow, so their shows probably arent as intense as they used to be
I am really curios to know who the douche is that disliked Echoes Myron. I mean do you fucking have ears you retarded turd eating monkey raping fucktard? Listen to the song, and learn about art. By the way, I make the most badass art films... I am the one and only Skippy Sywalker, Beeeaatches. Bob Pollard is actually my Dad.
@f0r3v3rl33t naw man...its pretty hard to say this isn't beatlesque. As soon as I heard this, the first thought that came into my head was: "damn this sounds like beatles influence!"
You are wrong as clearly you are posting about my post having nothing at all related to this song, just as the 9 people who liked my post were wrong. You are also wrong for not understanding that art has no best, but only original and unoriginal, and you are also in a serious case of "classic worship" because to call nevermind, an album that blatently ripped off the pixies the best nirvana album (and 90s album) is some bullshit, In Utero is obviously superior and on topic: GBV is god
i didn't like this song at first either, i used to skip it when i was listening to the album, but now it's one of my favourites. It's the line 'shit yeah it's cool' that gets me
I bought this album listened to it twice and decided I didn't like it. Over the next few days though I realized every song on the album was stuck in my head. It's like the music snuck up on me. What a cool feeling.
This song is beautifully Beatlesque especially in the way the bass is played as the lead. I am really getting in to Guided By Voices now...anglophiles are awesome
Bee Thousand is my favorite album of the90's. (In my opinion) it's better than "OK Computer" and My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" and EVEN better than "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea". It's of course better than "Nevermind" (no pun intended to Nirvana)
Of course In Utero is the best, In Utero is imo the best of the 90's. I think it goes in the top 10 albums ever made, in my opinion. Its my absolute favorite.
Lots of folks would argue about revolver being the best album of the '90s, or Nevermind being the best album of the '90s. You're confusing your opinion with fact. Why the hell is anyone even talking about Nirvana. This is a GBV video. Let's talk about how cool this song is, and how it's just great to have so much wonderful music to hear.
I totally disagree, nowadays it´s really easy and cheap to record with professional sound quallity. If you listsen to some details in bee thousan (like the guitar unplugging in hardcore´s ufo) you will notice that it´s a choice
I'm currently listening to "Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory", "Strawdogs", "Game of Pricks", "Buzzards and Dreadful Crows", and "Gold Star for Robot Boy". But my favorite by far; has to be "Smothered in Hugs". Thanks for the suggestions guys!
I just found out about these guys yesterday and so far I'm HOOKED! Can anyone tell me if they have any other songs that sound like this? Or some of your personal faves? xD
Check out the album Bee Thousand or the songs Gold Star for Robot Boy, Game of Pricks, ...Hunting Knife, Buzzards and dreadful crows, Tractor Rape Train.
This song is better with the "Yours to keep" build up, they always did that live, and he goes 1, 2, 3, 4 to count in Myron. Seen them 4times. Epic band. Could someone upload some Aliens Lanes, especially Always Crush Me, and email me. I'm on travels at the moment...?
