  • My mom used to sing this to me when I was child. I love it and hope to have a sunshine that I can sing it to one day.

  • My best friend's father used to sing this song to her every day. He died when she was 7 years old of Huntington's Disease. Her mother now is fighting breast cancer and has already had a double mastectomy and lost her hair to chemo. God bless you, Christianna:)

  • This song was written by a governor of Louisiana and it was about his horse, Sunshine, that died. This is the true history of this song.

  • My Dad used to wake my Mom each morning singing this song. He passed away Nov. 15th 2011 two days before their 60th wedding anniversary. He came to me as I was sleeping that night with the message that each of us has an endless supply of "sunshine" within us. We never know when our passing our sunshine can ignite the light in someone's life who may need the encouragement of light to grow and reach their potential.

  • My boyfriend sent me this video. I love him so much. He made me smile...he always wants to be the first one to make me smile in the morning--him being about 2400 miles away for now.

  • @MelJeanIrishQueen RUN AND GO AND HUG HIM!

  • @chichopluma I wish I could right now. He is away working and I am here for now. We will see each other soon again. :)

  • I was always the girl at the all boy table, and that is how I liked it. In elementary school the girls were all mean. Those boys I sat with were, still are, and will always be my Sunshine. They will never know how much they mean to me, they are the reason I don't hate going to school everyday. (I am in eighth grade)

  • @akschad Yah... I didn't like elementary school... the girls were so mean for no reason... so my friends were usually boys. :P

  • My grandpa used to sing this to me every night before i went to bed. If i wasn't staying at his house, he'd call me on the phone and sing it to me. Couldn't sing on tune if his life depended on it! But I loved in none the less (: This song was sung at my grandpa's funeral, so it brings tears to my eyes, but also happy and amazing memories (:

  • this was sung at my cousin's funeral.

  • what is the song at the end of this movie called or send me a link

  • I was homeless at 16 with a dog. For 14 years, I sang this to her. On May 12th, 2011 I sang it to her as I put her down. ;-( It always makes me cry when I hear it.

  • @moshinhussain

You are a good person. Thank you for sharing the story with us.....

  • i find it funny that we turned a very sad song into a lullaby. my aunt used to sing this to me when i was a little boy, i love this song, but at times it makes me cry with nostalgia and longing.

  • i think we all have the memory of this being sung to us as little kids. :)

  • @aikidofanatic123 Take much care,

I wish the best of whats left of your life, and hope everything goes well.

  • I had a dream that I was back in the '30's, sittin, with my kinfolk on the backporch cranking homeade icecream and listening to the radio. It was a carefree dream in the midst of this stressfull and chaotic technologically 'advanced' era. I know that it was time of less technology, less medicinal advances, but it seemed to be teeming with real human life. Can I please experience just 24 hours of this old timey age?

  • Thumbs up if Katy Perry's 'The One That Got Away' brought you here

  • my family always sings this song, it brings up so many memories.

  • Though swedish I sing this song to my 20mths daughter.

  • ADORABLE !!

  • After my late husband died I would sing this to my parrot (Joey), and after time we'd sing it together.

  • This song was my lullaby when I was little. Nobody will ever sing it quite the way my grandmother did.

  • Sounds like Norman Blake.

  • How could you do what you did after giving me this?

  • We watched this is English class last year. When i heard this song came on my spirit just lifted cuz my mom used to sing this to me every night as a baby:)

  • my mom use to sing me this when i was 3 im 19 i still remember, brings tears to my eyes

  • I sang this song to my baby neice, Brianna Michelle, when she was in the hospital, back in 1995. Such a sweet baby...I haven't seen her since 1998...My brother "broke ties" with me and my Mom. We're all the Family he has... But I don't that he knows this. God help him find himself...and us! I miss Brianna!

  • Alzheimer's has taken most of my darlings memory. Soon she will be gone but her memory and this song will forever be in the wallet of my heart and mind. This is one of the few things she remembers and responds to. It reminds me that I will always love her, and she will always be my Sunshine.

  • @p2vaftsta I love the phrase "wallet of my heart". That is amazing. God bless.

  • My mom's in hospital and all I can think of is this song....

  • @SuperLadySusan How could you MISS a FERRET? Hideous fucking creatures, your life must be void and meaningless.

  • @bigmarty11288 This made me giggle.

  • I used to sing this to my gone but NEVER FORGOTTEN AIDEN MICHAEL who passed away in sept of 07 at 1 month and 9 days old I miss him everyday but have never forgetten this precious little angel and the gifts he has given me....

  • This song iz lovely! I <3 it :)

  • Terrible song, but only because it perfectly describes the current status of my love life. Told me she'd always love me and no one could come between, left me to love another, and now I dream about her almost every night, and wake up feeling happy... at least until I realize it was a dream and then I feel like shit. And yet I would still probably "forgive her and take all the blame".

  • @sanguinemonkeyboy I'll tell you brother, thats a story as old as time. It'll happen to the best of us. You'll get yours one day friend

  • @sanguinemonkeyboy i feel you man. going through the same. but life goes on. that's what i tell myself every morning that i wake up. just be thankful for and cherish the memories for that's how we honour that love. hope the sun shines on you soon.

  • @sanguinemonkeyboy there'll be another broseph, chin up

  • @sanguinemonkeyboy Suggestion Here~!!! 1/2 Gal off Jack Daniel's, maybe some Coke,,, Get Drunk, Go out Get Fucked, and Life Will Move On~!!!!!!

  • My father also use to sing this to us kids every time we would take a family trip. I tresure the memery of those years every time I hear this song.

  • I really love you Stephen!!!!!

  • I love you Stephen

  • Originally released by Decca Records in 1939 by Jimmy Davis.

  • such a good song :)

  • this isnt the one from the movie :(

  • This is the Norman Blake version. Can't say for sure whether it's in the movie, but this is the one that's on the sound track album.

  • @12Astropath God Bless You!! My mom sang this to me as well..........only I am still blessed to have her here with me for now.......

  • 4 people lost thei sunshine:(

grew up with this movie and soundtrack:) means soo much to me you could never know:)

  • How are there SO many freakin emo people in the world. First off, yes it IS in the movie, you are just dumb. Second of all, I am sure EVERYone here heard this song as a kid, the CHORUS part of it. I'm sorry, I'm just tired of hearing how people cry to every damn song on you tube. Just enjoy the music for what it is, great American music. Be happy that it makes the artist happy to make this music and enjoy it for what it is.

  • @southernspectre ever thought maybe people 'cry' to you youtube because they have noone else to go too? ya know sometimes its easier to talk to people you dont know. a lil empathy please? you dont like the comments.. dont read them. your choice.. not mine.

  • @southernspectre do you really have to label people as emo when a person cries? i bet you cried atleast one time in your life, does that make you emo? i bet you aren't emo when you cried so why call other people emo when they cry? crying is an emotion and we have the right to express it.

  • @southernspectre There's nothing wrong with Emo. Emotional people at least show they care. You're right though Great American Music! Love this song! ( : <3

  • @southernspectre shut UP dickhead !

  • :\

  • Sounds like a wife singing this to her husband at war. Just staring out the window.

  • i grew up on this film. when i was little this song always made me ball like a baby! my daddy sings it to me alot. this song means soo much to me.

  • @ HoboGus: Amen brother!

... was written by Gov Jimmie Davis of Louisiana.

  • gf just asked me what language this is in haha

  • "You are my Sunshine" by Jimmie Davis is the best American Folk Song of all time.

This movie has the best music sound track of any movie in the last 10 years except maybe for "Ray."

  • very dramatic pix and touching music

  • you are my sunshine....

  • Love it thanks!

  • My mama used to sing this to me as a small child.

  • This song makes me sad whenever i hear it.

  • i had a dream to this song, i woke up and cried.

  • My dad used to play this song on the harmonica and sing it to me when I was a baby in his arms. Now he's been dead for ten years and It makes me cry to hear it but also happy.

  • So sorry to hear about your dad jitterbug. I used to sing this song alot at camp and at Sunday school. I will definitely be teaching this song to my new granddaughter when she gets older. Your dad is always watching over you and spreading his love to you in special ways. Take care.

  • I do like this song. My Dad used to sing this to us when we were little. Just lost him 9 months ago so this reminds me of him. Thank you for posting it.

  • I like this version. My Dad used to sing this song to us when we were little. Just lost him 9 months ago. This song brings back so many happy memories of how he used to sing songs like this to us.

  • Dad would sing this on the front porch to mom

  • romanticly heartbreaking

  • @Rockabillykid01

  • Lord I love this song

  • This song is really great :D.

  • love the movie! haha funny rednecks

  • Chattanooga, TN is that in TanzaNia or?

  • My father always played this tune on the organ, but with swedish lyrics (really strange translation) and it is the first song i learned to play on organ/piano. Ah the memories :)

  • don't care where the song came from, it is in 1st part of the movie

My friend turned me on to the song and the movie itself, and it was a blessing indeed.

A year later he died of a massive heart attack @ 43 years old. Dead within 30 seconds flat.

It took me 5 years to get over it, and it ain't done yet. And his family and friends know

So I still need closure in my friend's death.

But O' Brother brought some peace.

  • Watched the movie earlier and it was just as good as the first time around.

  • Norman Blake does a great job on this one (as usual), but this is NOT from the movie "Oh Brother...." I have seen that film more than a dozen times and Norman's version just is not included.

  • Well yes you´re right actually. They DO sing it in the end of the movie, but only a short part from it. Guess i´m a little confused, but according to my soundtrack, this is "o brother where art thou- You are my sunshine". Hey, I´m confused myself, but I´m glad they recorded the full song, cause they did a good job with it!

  • @Rockabillykid01 Geeze...this makes me want to go and rent the movie so I can describe the scene its played in.

The song is played on the radio during one of the scenes in the background ....

  • @Rockabillykid01 I also have the sound track & yeah says the same that its from the film, pity there wasn't more of 'you are my sunshine' in it, only that one verse after pappy pardons the boys on stage... great film, I love it so much its time I bought another dvd incase anything happens mine from continuuious play..lol..

  • @Rockabillykid01 many movies do this, where the actors may sing a snippet of a song, but the original or some other version appears on the soundtrack

  • @VA24541

It isn't in included in the movie. But the movie had a soundtrack and this song IS on it.

  • @VA24541 They do sing it in the movie to. Where they go to the guys cousins house and they are listening to the radio. Dang you missed that a dozen times? That's why its on the soundtrack because it from the movie. Just saying :)

  • @VA24541 The song is definitely in the movie...

  • @VA24541 This version might not be in the movie, but it's for damned on the soundtrack. It's a fine song and I surely enjoy it.

  • this song brings back soo many memories as a kid. :P

  • Rockabillykid01 this is an excellent song thanks so for uploading it. Also, I want to thank CrazyCharlieManson for all his fascinating facts on when and how this song came about. Written on a brown paper... I love it!

  • The funny part is that this is now a kid's song, inscribed to microchips with any number of fuzzy stuffed animals crooning it away.

  • Love hearing this -- People need to bring back some of the "Oldies" I don't think they should ever be forgotten,, they are very memorable, and loved!!

  • Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell are the credited songwriters of "You Are My Sunshine". Davis bought the song and rights from Paul Rice for $35 and put his own name on it in 1940. Two versions of "You Are My Sunshine" were recorded and released prior to Jimmie Davis's. The first was recorded on Aug 22, 1939 by The Pine Ridge Boys, from Atlanta. The second was recorded on Sept 13, 1939 by The Rice Brothers Gang.

  • Paul Rice claimed to have composed it in 1937.

A lot of people remembered hearing the song long before 1937- in the mid

1930's. Paul Rice played in the early

1930's with Oliver Hood of LaGrange, GA.

Oliver Hood wrote "You Are My Sunshine." He wrote the words to the song on the back of a brown paper sack, which his children still possess, and he first performed the song at a VFW convention in LaGrange in 1933.

  • Oliver Hood never thought of copyrighting his music - never until "You Are My Sunshine" rose to the top of the charts in 1940. It was then that Oliver Hood began copyrighting his music - one song too late. In 1957 he wrote and copyrighted "Somebody Stole My Sunshine Away," about the theft of "You Are My Sunshine." . Somewhere the sun is shining, But there's rain in my heart today. There's no denying My heart keeps crying - Somebody stole my shunshine away.

  • "You Are My Sunshine" performed by...

Norman Blake born Mar 10 1938 in Chattanooga, TN. Acoustic guitar flatpicker, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. In his over 50 year career Blake has played with a number of folk, country and bluegrass groups.

  • great song, great artists. thanks for uploading this,

  • ever since i was little my father has called me Sunshine and he used to sing the chorus to me all the time. Now whenever i hear this i think of him.

  • Me too :) Glad to see others have fond memories.

  • My father used to play country and folk american records when I was a child in the 70´s. This kind of music was very uncommon in Spain where I live but I got used to listening to it and nowadays I love to drive and listen to these classics. A small tribute to my father. Thanks for uploading

  • ye kya hai i dont know par mere dil ko chhu lia

  • This is one of my favorite songs because it reminds me of a horse i rode he was my sunshine and he got taken away from me:-(

  • About forty years ago, as a young boy, my mother used to sing this song to me. After I learned the words she would ask me to sing it to her as well. She used to love it so much. To this day, when I hear this song, I can't help but to think of my sweet mother. Good times.

  • <3 HAHAHAHAHAHAAH =]
