Nothing really impressed, just singles and doubles at 160 or so bpm and I know Thomas is a real great drummer :-( . What about the sound......?. the more a listen to electronic drums the more I like acoustic drums.
man... this drum sucks. the drummer plays very well. but the drum sounds eletronic too much. it would be better in a acoustic drum. in an eletronic drum you do this with some clicks. sorry for the english.
@WLMJTunes : Do u really think Mr. Lang means what he says about electric kits and acoustic kits. He loves the DW acoustic. He says coz he has to promote. Diplomatic genius..
I crown Lang the best, because he can play anything Peart can play + pull off Bozzio 4 way independence, + Weckl chops, and then start in on some gospel chop action. Someone tell me who's better? And of course he's better on his acoustic set up too.
Thomas Lang is an example of what a man can do when he can practice umteen hours a day on the drums that are supplied by a company. Of course he had to get to a certain level of abiity to have such a company take note. He is an extremely technically proficient drummer and cannot only play a decent solo but can hold a band together. Though there are times his part in a song sometime muddies up the composition for sake of technicality. Still I would like to do half of what he does...
@brongarago no sir. I assure you im not talentless....if you think my littlle exercise videos are my talent...then you are...ya know what?...this comment is 4 months old...quit being mean..untill you hear me play set...stfu...ok? and i seriously dought you even looked at any of my videos anywayjudging from your comment....and what is said is true....any dci drummere could do this...must exclude you huh?
@Pierorocks have you even tried playing some of the things he is doing on this video? the way he can do completely different things with his limbs is ridiculous
@dwwhitesk8rdieman Speed wise some stuff yes and stuff no. But like beats and rythems yes. Gives this guys some jazz or bossa and see how farhe can get.
funny thing is he's not that fast with his feet, the reason the pads are on the ground and the beaters are like that is so that he can roll with his feet like you can with your hands. he's still fucking amazing, but kinda cheating w/ the pedal thing.
@BentNeisNFull he can do the same on an acoustic bass drum, he does it on his creative coordination dvd, and he is fast, he very rarely plays long stretches of single stroke double kick but when he does he can play just as fast as many of the top metal drummers.
it wasnt a joke, i had one too that broke down all the time, sended it to Yamaha and broke down again, that thing is a comlete rubbisch fuck damn joke
Electronic drums can't compare to acoustics as far as sounding natural goes. However, I would love to see any of you guys do what he's doing without one.
I hated them also but after recording with them I gave in. I hardly use acoustics in the studio anymore. Even my acoustic set has triggers. I agree with ya though, I've got the best E drums Roland makes and they still can't match the raw power of an acoustic set.
Yeah, I'd never record with triggers/electric kit. A, you don't get that great live feel of mic's, and B, it's so hard to get that exact right tone mix. That's why I live mic everything, because there's just so much more power and flexibility if you have drums, bass and guitar cabs all live mic'd, as opposed to triggers/DI boxes.
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I refuse to ever get anything drumming wise that's triggered, whether acoustic kit triggers or an electric kit. Nothing can match the tone and flexibility of an acoustic kit.
LOLOLOL I know alot of drummers like his "style" ? Fine, but if Terry BOZO can get paid to play, then any idiot can. LOL (no offense to the BOZO fans)
@Youngblood1223 That "Bozo" played with Zappa at age 16, and finishing playing with the most talented and difficult composer of his time, went off and invented completely new ideas in drumming. Besides the FACT that Bozzio is technically and groove-ly the most talented drummer alive, he also invented the techniques that Thomas Lang is famous for. Without Bozzio, there would be no Thomas Lang.
Thomas lang and bozzio are friends and bozzio says that thomas can play better than him and thomas used when he was young one of the first dvds of bozzio so :D
yes. much of this is true. but he could do so much more than what he does on that GIGANTIC as cromatic set. hes just...weird hard for me to explain without sounding insulting.
Well, in terms of showing off, but he does his own thing. Look up a song called Ufuk. And also him with the Amsterdam Percussion Group. It is incredible. The difference is that Lang is a drummer and likes being liked, as well as incredible technique. Terry just does his own thing and doesn't care what anyone else thinks.
All the sounds for the Roland drum kits are recorded off the best drums kits that money can buy. Do you really think that a real drum kit sounds different after you've miked it up to play a concert? As if the people at the back are going to hear the actual drum kit. What they hear is the sound through the speakers. Ie, an electronic drum kit...
What they still here, although amplified, are millions of nuances of the sound, depending on how hard the drum is hit, and where on the drum-head etc.
Rolands stiff "one-sample-per- 10 levels of midi- level (midi has 0-128 steps) does not manage to portray an acoustic drumset.
The only two products on the market that do mimic acoustic drums are the Plug-In software "Superior Drummer 2.0" from DFH, and the HW kit 2box Drumit 5 (google please). Both European of course!
Kristosdee ... speaking from the perspective of a sound engineer, a drummer and an owner of both acoustic drums x 2 kits... and a set of V drums ... I can tell you that they sound very different through a pa system or in the studio... a fully miked drum kit produces a sound which is picked up by all mic's ... the V Drums pipe each sound out individually...and then add 'ambience' to bring it all together... this is then fed through FX stage (Reverb) to put the drums in a 'room' / 'space'.
also....Kristosdee, you should check out Thomas Lang playing his acoustic kit.... he's, as he is here, a seriously inventive drummer... only his acoustic kit just blows this out of the water.....
It's actually all about Physics... harmonics... overtones, RT60's, ambience, what the room sounds like, how it reacts to the sound of a drummer in a specific place in that room, I'm so board of the Roland V Drum overtones, same snare note 4:06 drives me insane!
CHECK OUT 2box drumit 5, half the price of a roland and better... I am not kidding, and no, I don´t work there. I just think Roland has been alone within the e-drum space for too long and have lost track of what is important. Nice and shiny HW and cast-like cymbals on the TD-20KX means shit if it sound like an old drum machine. And in the 2box drumit 5 you can edit, add and delete your own samples freely as you like, thus getting the best of what´s out there.
I love this guys work, but I can't agree with the statement he made about acoustic kits and electric kits. I know were moving into the 21st century, but that set still sounds cheesy. You just cant beat the sound of real drums.
@WLMJTunes i get paid i say what i must say....it is obvious doesnt go out from his heart....to my point of view is comparing a grand piano to keyboads....nooo way i agree they are complement but not in anyway a substitusion....i am sure thomas thinks the same...just said that because $ to his account lol.
@WLMJTunes Do u really think Mr. Lang means what he says about electric kits and acoustic kits. He loves the DW acoustic. He says coz he has to promote. Diplomatic genius..
But thats just the drums themselves. His playing is still great. Hes probably playing on an electric kit just to reduce the noise and it still sounds pretty good anyway.
I'm not being rude, but there's a lot of soul in this, I mean, listen to his tom runs, listen to kick drums, listen to his snare playing, watch him, it's amazing, I've never seen him on an acoustic set, but he's an amazing drummer obviously, but there is soul, just gotta listen a little closer :)
Well this guys normal kit is extremely large, so I'm sure he and the people who help set up/mic his drums are thrilled when he uses an electric kit lol.
