Great band , great song . I'd put them in the se bracket as the Chameleons, in that they should both have been huge, but for some crazy reason, they wern't . Daft buisiness the record industry.Alan the Chameleons fan.
Great band. Discovered them after they toured with Big Country in the late 1980s. Had Shakespeare Alabama and Flipped on vinyl. Songs with passion and purpose. Love it!!
Many thanks fery1, and so well said. I'll never understand how bands like this get sidelined by big name labels, just when they should have been pushed to what would;ve been longterm success. This band had legs, still does! Shakespeare Alabama is one of the most satisfying albums put together by any band ever.
Agree - an absolute cracker. Think it was probably the all powerful Radio 1 that decided not to make it a hit. I can here Simon Bates being patronising about it now... "They'll make it, maybe not yet... etc". As catchy and way better than anything Dexys ever did too.
@edwardpeach As much as I detested the Old Skool reactionary Radio One DJs, they at least had some personality, unlike the clowns there now You're right, though, those music hating jocks could make or break a band - frightening..
First time I've heard any of their original stuff ( my bad ! ) - touring soon as The Marrakesh Express ... seen them twice as 'The Byrdz' and they are absolutely brilliant - check them out at the Robin in Bilston on October 25th - Classic !
Wonderfully constructed pop song of which there is no equal in my opinion. Happily they are still together and I very much look forward to the release of the new CD 'Blood and Grace' in June
Awesome band that never the recognition they deserved.I heard that it was because record label poorly premoted them.Shakespeare Alabama a superb album.
Bloody inspired! The album blew me away as a kid and I still love it today - fabulous live too, saw them on the Big Country tour 1989, what a crime they weren't more successful
Diesels: What Happened? Discuss...Its even boring to discuss it again. Meantime, hopefully, the body of work still exists and was marked by many, many. One day, who knows, it will have to be admitted that all the square pegs and round holes in the world, dont matter a damn to history. Not that that's any comfort to such a great pair of songwriters, but then, in these times of melting permafrost, maybe its all that matters.

Good band, decent song. Singer John Butler is outstanding, surely one of the most underrated singers anywhere.
My favourite DPW songs are the b-sides "What About Us" and "Above These Things".
