  • great video, learning about this in econ class. my thoughts: not until we add an amendment to our constitution that addresses the vaguness of 'general welfare' will this change in sect 8 I believe. a peaceful revolution..i'm doubtful, time will tell.

  • I don't believe the people in this country, have "suffered" enough to have a revolution so I am not sure we are that close to having a revolution. The definition of tyranny is: dictatorship: a form of government in which the ruler is an absolute dictator (not restricted by a constitution or laws or opposition etc.)

absolutism: dominance through threat of punishment and violence We are not there yet. But I will say that the CZARS and their potential policies espoused could take usthere

  • @chattingwithu We're pretty close:

tyranny - Many of our rights have been taken, we no longer have very much of what the Constitution intended.

absolutism - wether people are scared or just don't care, we are dominated. We pay our taxes and get body scanned because they tell us to.

  • I think we are starting to slowly awaken from our sleep but it still is slow going...we are still drowsy with our indulgent lifestyles~

  • Why does this talk have to come now that a black president is in office. damn

  • this would have happened with mc cain, hillary, romney. anyone the general public would have elected in this silly american idol election system. but when you have 8 years of a crap admin full of old white cronies. what did you think would happen? with the news openly having stories screaming about racism towards obama, guilt, fear, stupidity. i knew he was going to be elected a year before he was nominated and realized how tragic it was gonna be that the first black prez would fail hard.

  • Well said.

  • BHO is no MLK =(

  • im starting to think that unless the population starts being taught that these cycles of government, economy(kontradiev cycle) exist and will continue to exist if we don't make decisions that reflect what we've learned from the past we'll be doomed to repeat them. i can think of no other way to break the cycle then to educate ourselves on the patterns of events, how society tends to react to problems with polar opposite actions and what reserching what actions will break the cycle.

  • Good call. The amount of psychology and sociology learned in the 20th century is pretty staggering. Unfortunately, it's been mainly used for nefarious purposes by wall street, madison avenue, and washington DC

  • Maybe something in there that says the penalty for straying from the constitution and the spirit there of is to be death if found guilty. Furthermore any judge who would not impose this penalty is to be disbarred and dismembered. Also anyone whom would attempt to remove this penalty from the Constitution shall also receive said penalty. It would be like the Ark of the Covenant, touch it and you die.

  • Interesting....Capital punishment issues aside, I think that's a GREAT idea.

  • I thought about this myself recently

My thoughts were that even though our constitution can stand the test of time, it cannot stand the test of mans soul over time. Greed and ambition will always undermine it in one way or another.

What has changed and what may prevent future subversion (if we can overcome the current one) is how history is recorded today, and if it can be objectively reviewed in the future.

An example of what not to do...

  • I don't think inwardly man has changed much since the beginning of time...selfishness and control are part of the human condition. Therefore it greatly concerns me what lies ahead as I have read all about Soviet Russia and Communist China and I would like to believe that the DNA of freedom that exists in most Americans will fight the good fight and not allow such things to take over our country. How exactly that will be done I am not quite sure but I do see the train coming closer.

  • Excellent video, he is the kind of guy I would do a video about.

I think the 200 year cycle is a condition of the agriculture to industrial age technologies. Before civilization formed into cities that cycle did not exist. Perhaps with the Internet and beyond, we can devise a system that builds upon the constitution to create a longer term free society. I think the cycles of history are all about to get redefined when everybody on the planet has a computer and Internet access.

  • I hope so. I think the general apathy we see today is a product of our abundance. People don't really have to worry about where their next meal will come from or if they have the right to do whatever they want, so they've become complacent. Since us humans haven't had that opportunity before recent history, I hope we're better prepared for it next time with whatever new system that brings.

  • the the magna carta and constitution before it. we will get out new document. but we have to put major provisions like "100-200 years we will re adjust this to fit technology and societies advances"

  • There definitely needs to be some provision for amending, but if it's not stringent enough, it seems like exactly the kind of provision that someone might use to their advantage. For example, if the founders put this in their Consitution, Bush probably would've said it's an excuse for preemtive war and torture.
