  • Heh, Billings stumped me at first. But Red Rock/1991 = quickly recognized. I don't believe I have ever seen the beginning stages shown here on the video, just the wedge portion of its life. Such amazing vortex action. Hell, such an amazing tornado in general. Extremely impressive and historic footage.

  • I was all prepared to be surprised at a multi-vortex tornado in Montana, until you mentioned there was a Billings and Red Rock in Oklahoma.

  • were you chasing chuck robertson

  • @AJTwister97 We were chasing together.

  • To me, hail is one of the scariest weather sounds.

  • Billings Oklahoma!? You sure? - Billings, MT has the red rocks too.

  • @Torn80cj Very likely that happened as it was an F-5 and grass was torn out of the ground. I saw the video which showed the asphalt road ripped up by the Red Rock tornado that was being studied by the storm chasers from the univ. of Okla. I believe.

Doopler radar measured winds above the surface at 260mph. as I recall.

  • Suction vortices making themselves known. Wow.

  • do alot of people confuse billings MT for billings OK like in tornados and stuff

  • its not in billings i know because i live in billings MT and the last tornado was 58 years ago not including the fathers day tornado

  • @duckboy1213 It's in Billings OKLAHOMA, not MT.

  • @duckboy1213 and the tornado warnings yesterday

  • Great vid, the wall cloud on this tornado is incredible.

  • Excellent video. Al and I were just south of the tornado as it formed, but you had the better view from the north side.

  • As I recall, this twister at one point ripped asphalt from a road. Bwelieve it was documented on Govt research video.

  • @soonerk5 I heard the Jarrell TX tornado did the same thing. But I don't know if it was a reliable source or not.

  • that is a sick looking twister

  • Put some ACDC ON THIS SHIIIT.

  • imigine waking up in that house and looking out the window at that time

  • beautyful!

  • it was scary as hell

  • That tornado is an F-5 at the end of this vid!! Thanks for the upload!! Incredible footage :)

  • little tornadoes are spinning off the big one at 0:38 on...

  • Awesome vid on this monster. That area is a tornado hotbed in Oklahoma.

  • This was part of the same storm system that produced the Andover, KS F5. The Red Rock Tornado had a windspeed of 257-268 mph which at the time, this was the fastest wind speed ever measured on the face of the earth (until May 3 1999). Had it went through a town it would have been rated an F5.

  • Looks like an EF-3 tornado.

  • Nope, it was rated an F4. The EF system did not exist back in 1991.

  • would have been F5 if it hit more structures.

    good vid.

  • There's no way of knowing that

  • Most experienced chasers thought this tornado was more impressive than the Andover tornado. They will never know for sure but it would have likely been rated F5 if it had hit populated areas.

  • @trainzrok Some experts believe this tornado was stronger than the F5 Andover tornado the same day. If it passed through urban areas may have been classified as an F5.

  • Nice footage. There's not much video of this tornado in its infant stages.

    Nice!
