everyone thinks that was a big waste of tax dollars. a quick helo ride is no where near the amount of wasted tax dollars as half these people on wellfare and disablity. plus theres training value and recruitment value in that air insertion.
Great footage, logictox! I took some from the 6th row but it was with a regular digital camera and was from basically where the pace car paused before continuing on. Where were ya perched?
I didn't think video camera were allowed. Dangit! Mine was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS80. I'm so jealous. Could have had even more amazing footage. Anyway...great vantage point and great footage!
Worried about the cost? The unit has to fly so many hours a year to maintain each pilots proficiency. We can either burn that flying traffic patterns or landing to the same LZs. Or I can perform a msn showing the taxpayers what they have that requires me to coordinate with two different controllers (air & Gnd), make a hard time landing to a tricky LZ, unload a unique cargo all while changing my landing plan based on people running around. Sounds like a tng msn w/ the benefit of advertising.
Just a guess but for the Army who has to advertise on television all the time for recruits I'll bet a nationally televised event with 200k or so on hand is great advertisement. In other words a 30 second ad on TV probably cost $100k or so while this probably cost $10-$20k. Also the Military approves some 850 such events every year out of it's budget and labels it "promotional and recruiting opportunities for the armed services".
they bring young guys (hispanic & black guys in most of times) to death in afghanistan desert, for a landmine in the ass... I believe they need so much advertising!
Google can be your friend when your stating information. This is a quote from the ScotlandHerald and other sites had the same information. I do wish you wouldn't try to make it political though, it isn't.
"By ethnic group, the dead were 75% white, 11% Latino and 9% black. Between 40% and 55% were killed by roadside bombs, although rocket-propelled grenades and gunfire accounted for many of the 137 who fell during the assault on the insurgent-held city of Falluja in November, 2006."

I'm so curious in this question... what do you think: this 75% of poor white guys, in US was able to afford an health insurance, for they and their family?? Use google again to find the answer.
Now your going to lecture a man that lost his wife after a 6 year battle with cancer about health care and cost of it. Please don't make this political, it isn't.
In the first place it's called jet-a, not helo-fuel.
At the current market value that dollar amount represents almost 3000 gal. of Jet-a. (more than the CH-47D can carry) nice analogy bozo, piss off and go bowling.
How much does that cost us taxpayers? Cool as it is, I'm a bit tired of the literally billions of dollars being spent on air shows, sports fly-overs and stuff like this.
All those "wasted" tax dollars actually recruit TONS of servicemen and women. Also the military builds in these events into it's budgets each year, they only do so many. Many many kids are influenced at a young age by events like this and say "I wanna fly that helicopter" kind of deal.

The world probably hates us for many reasons, however I don't think flying a pace car into a Nascar event really is the reason. :)

Would have been cooler if the Camaro shot out of the cargo bay while the chopper was still moving forward, and chopper lifts off without stopping. :)

I'm basing this on no facts whatsoever, but I'm sure these kinds of things are paid for by Nascar, the NFL, MLB, etc.
