These games were so cool for their time, but very hard to play the first time around. finding every detail and running in circles for hours made it hard for first timers!
I would love to see an updated version of this game...same story line, different elements... Or merge the Sega CD soundtrack into the Dos version... the dos version is prettier then Sega CD's limited color pallet.
YES!! I loved this game! I played this when I was like 7 or 8 on Sega Cd. I've been looking all over the Internet. I totally forgot it was called Rise of the Dragon. Sounds more like the name of a JRPG than a cyberpunk game.
I never got real in the game, though. eventually I stopped playing, for whatever reason, and Playstation debuted. And the rest is history.
once in awhile when i find myself in a seedy location such as a pleasure dome like place... theres a good chance the pleasure dome music goes off in my head...lol
MANNN...I used to play this game all the time when I was maddd young. Probably too young for the content of this game lol...I really couldn't get passed this one part...I never did actually..but I used to thing the game was so cool...I still have it somewhere..
Playing this game & the two 16 bit Shadowrun games is a Cyberpunk's Paradise. I love the grapphics in the new games, but many of them are lacking in the story department. Running in the shadows in a dark & gritty cyberpunk future...hell yeah! Makes me miss when there were more games like this.
Totally! I was thinking that same thing concerning the old and new Shadowrun games. The old ones were more like the books: dark and gritty. The new one did not have this, not to mention the story had nothing to do with Shadowrun continuity. Another old game that belongs on this list is Two Crude Dudes. If you don't know it yet, check it out here at YouTube.
Most Sega CD games were underrated. I liked them all with Rise of the Dragon being one of my top picks. I'd like to see a remake to this game. Or better yet, an actual sequel. After all, I don't think there was anything that needed to be remade about this. It's fine the way it is. Bring the story back in real time with an aged William "Blade" Hunter on a new case. Hell, even hire the guy who played him to reprise his role!
When Banjo Ginga wasn't voicing Liquid Snake, that is. :P I know Cam is still around and doing voice work. I think a sequel is in store for this game.
Not entirely forgotten. And besides, it's not the only "under-the-radar" story to be brushed off and given new life. That's why they do remakes and such. Anything is possible. Personally, I think a revival of most old games should happen.
I'm inclined to agree with you. This game could be done great justice now, on a next gen console.
I just don't see it happening. Which is unfortunate. I had this same conversation with someone else recently regarding Eternal Champions.... ....
...A game I would've loved to see sequels of. A game that should've never fallen into obscurity and should still be competing with the abysmal buckets of ASS we're given as fighting games these days...
Ahhh, Eternal Champions. One of my favorite Genesis fighting games. That one really needs to come back. And I know what you mean about all this being unlikely. Video game developers probably wouldn't bother retooling old titles for next gen consoles. Not all old games have succeeded with these makeovers. Golden Axe being one of them. Ghostbusters managed just fine, though. They pulled that one off beautifully. It can serve as an example.
I kinda get pissed... because there are a lot of really shitty games that get made. If you already have a great concept (like your Rise of the Dragons or you Eternal Champions) and all it needs is a graphical update and some retooling... ...why not start there...?
Seems like an easy money maker... and what do they have to lose...?
Personally... if you told me that the new Street Fighter and the new Eternal Champions was coming out next year... I'd be saving my cash for EC.
I know. Street Fighter IV was supposed to be more like the original. I didn't bother playing it, though. I'd rather play a new EC or even that old TMNT Tournament Fighters. I was reading that they planned to make a third EC installment for the Sega Saturn, but it was canceled. They can shell out money to make crappy games these days, but won't take the time to polish off some older ones. I didn't really think the new Golden Axe was that bad, but most people didn't like it.
@Elfrunner It still pisses me off to this day that EC 3 got dropped for a shitty title that (SURPRISE!) bombed HARD.
Seriously...they dropped a winning formula to gamble on a bad idea. I'll tell ya, the suits at Genesis were total idiots; it's why the company eventually went belly-up.
Yeah, I hear you. It was to be a flagship fighting game franchise for Sega. Instead they disposed of the whole thing. And Eternal Champions was so successful, too. They certainly made lousy decisions, to be sure. Even by the time they made the Dreamcast, it still tanked because they didn't bother to include a DVD player with the console that might have given it a better chance to compete with the Playstation 2.
Love Sega CD to this very day! This game rocked for a point & click type. It's the only game I've played that has as dark of a overtone & feel to it that matched the Shadowrun games for the Sega Genesis & Snes systems. They should remake this & make a decent Shadowrun game w/ the Genesis game as a formula to build from. They just don't make these cool cyberpunk future RPG games anymore...agreed? I still love 'em & always will.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I still own my Sega CD/Genesis with all the games. They're the only antique consoles I still have. I own Rise of the Dragon and it was one of the best RPGs I have ever played. It was given to me by a friend who claimed the game was stupid and cheesy. I don't know what the hell he was talking about. I still love this game and play it from time to time. I also agree that they don't make too many decent cyberpunk games anymore. I was let down by the new Shadowrun.
omg i loved this game it takes me back to my childhood when i had the sega cd. i probably shouldn't have been playin it but god was this a great game. a true classic. i remember there was this bar you could go to and just talk shit to a bunch of drunk people and spray them with pepper spray. sega should definetely remake this game.

Lol, Just picked up a Sega system and came with the Sega CD and this game. Only got the Sega b/c it came w/ shining force 2, love that game! Was cheaper then buying the game by it self. Thanks for sharing!
I almost teared up when I saw that someone posted this game lol. I was competely caught up in this game and rememered staying up to the wee hours in the morning playing this. The story line kept my interest and the game play was good. And by the way I finished the game as well :D
If they ever remake this game I hope they don't use CG animation. I say keep it to look like how it is, a graphic novel because that's one of the many things that makes this game so different. Only of course the artwork would be different... more daker I guess.
Yeah, this is the kind of game that would be around today. You "say" or "do" the wrong thing and you would have to start over again... how many games like that were around in those days?
I rented this game and the Sega-CD for about three or four days when it came out. I and my oldest sister played this game non-stop... but we didn't beat it. I haven't played it since, we never bought the Sega-CD. But I would buy it just to play this game.
this game is in my top 10 for all time. i rented it back in 93 and couldnt stop playing it till i beat it. i wish they would rerelease it on xbox360 this game reeks cyberpunk!!!
I had this gamer for sega cd, only got as far as to the point where you gotta try and hook up tyat thing for the vidphone so you casnlisten i9n,never did get the thing set up, usually endup dead by rats or shocked
There's a catch to that, the meters would go green and blue, and you can only attach the wires when the meters turn green. Took me a while to find that out. I hope they remake this game someday.
