Thanks again, good episode. With flash photography, do you think f2.8 is really needed if you're not after strong bokeh?

The reason I'm asking is to help choose between 17-55 f2.8, 17-40 f4, 16-35 f2.8, 24-105 f4. Already have 50 f1.4 for shallow DOF, and am thinking that's the lens I'd use without flash. With flash, if you're mostly staying between f4-f5.6, is the aperture less important a feature on the lens? thanks in advance

@huynh1204 In general, the faster the better. You never know when you'll want to turn your flash off. Some really good shots are taken without a flash--so you might want to keep that in mind. It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have that f/2.8.

Grate vids man really helping me out .. got a quick question thow .when when its dark and AF doesn't work how would u suggest focusing while you are holding an off camera flash.. i find that all my photos are supper sharp when im not holding my flash but they go to shit as soon as i start using my flash.. thx Tim

Well allow me to answer, gotta say these videos are helping me a lot too. I only stated in october 2009  but i know one thing in nightclub shoot if ur AF is busted, well its gonna be a long night, my sugestion is put back you flash on cam and use ur manual focus ring. With that extra hand on your cam you will be steadier. Event with autofocus you need a steady hand imaging without.

@norcoryde1 hmm...there could be a number of reasons and it also depends on your set up. i'm wondering if your off camera flash set up uses some kind of focus assist lamp to help focus. if it does, you might not be pointing the focus assist lamp in the right direction. other things to consider are the focus point you are using. many photographers like to use only the center focus point and reframe. Don't leave it to your camera to decide. Also, your camera can dictate speed in focusing.
