If you want the eyes and experience, just stick another sign on the wall directly across from your "AFK Zone" and stand in the space this dries up right outside the doorway. Then just whack at 'em with your sword. :)

Does this work if you are standing on e opposite side of the trap?

@Th3blur22 I think it won't because spiders can follow the player through walls and if you stand on that side they won't get into the drowner (at least that fast). And items disappear after a while so you might not get the strings after being afk.

@GozzyHD Those have to be the smaller Cave Spiders. This trap works only with the regular ones. There's no way regular spiders could fit through 1 block wide hole but those small ones can. I might make a tutorial for those some day.

@UteMartAustralia Cave Spiders can fit even through half blocks. And by using half blocks it's quite difficult to make a looter. One way of making a cave spider trap is to seal the looter with something like glass pane, but that would make some of the strings get stuck. The only way to make a 100% effective trap would be by using pistons.
