It was the great Toscanini himself who banned the bis at that theatre (a rule which most theatres then adopted) As I think has been already said, encores became much less necessary with the advent, and affordability, of recorded sound technology.

No todos los tenores suenan gravisimos, entre los tenores hay variantes de voz y la de Juan Diego queda perfecta para una aria como esta. O acaso crees que se equivocan las mas de 100 personas que lo aplauden a mas no poder???

Nosotros tuvimos la fortuna de escucharlo en La Ciudad de Cristal (A Coruña) y os puedo asegurar que desde ese momento para mí es la voz más prodigiosa de cuantos tenores he escuchado.
