  • The Transformation of Orpheus

O cruel river, lift him up! Do not drown, don't snuff this one's fire...

transform this gentle Orpheus into living light

that joyful heals all our hearts!

Did he reach for musical notes in that Mississippi sun

and fall short in the eddies of derangement and confusion?

Too good to live? Again? How many magic-men of song

Ripped away by jealous devils, in deaths so wrong?

Ah, but he transforms, changes light itself

His soul freed in darkened river-stealth...

  • Anyone has the other version that got removed? It had a different intro and on youtube it had a picture of a sailor. I really liked that version tell me if you know of any mirrors

  • This is obviously great...everything Jeff did was pretty much great. I also like Rod Stewart's version.

  • Talanted young man but the best version of this song is Bob Dylan's from the Bootleg Series Vol. 4 where he sang this song live with Joan Baez and they forget the words a few times. Beautiful.

  • Jeff B. was incredible! His father Tim even better and more original (in my opinion). However, although this is a beautiful version of a fantastic tune, Bob Dylan does it best as is usually the case w. Bob D´s tunes. Thank´s for posting! V. interesting!

  • yeah Jeff was great,i miss his voice. He always covers songs well.

  • his music is the only that actually makes me smile (:

  • Best version ever!!!!

  • Rod Stewart's version is deffinitive for me

  • This sounds like the moments of contemplation that you're too scared to do when anyone else is around.

  • kudos kudos for putting this up on ere x o x o

  • everlasting love

  • The best cover I've ever listened to! What a genius!, and as genius as he was it seems he was also doomed to die young... pleeease! take lady gaga insteaaad and not excellent musicians and performers like Jeff Buckley! :'(

  • @TzinMT I'm not disagreeing with you but "seems he was also doomed to die young", it could be even though alot of the songs he sang and recorded spoke of some kind of premonetion that he was to die young. It could've just him being reckless and his death was an accident, Cause are those young children that die in very violent and impoverished nations also doomed to die young? All the same like all of us I wish it had never happened.

  • BarProphet: 'Dylan was a shitty performer'. That's the funniest thing i've ever heard.

  • whenever i listen to buckley i am transported to that secret place in my heart and i savour each nuance in his unique voice and guitar mastery. there are no pretensions, just a combined beauty and sadness.

  • jeff buckley's versions of songs are always the most beautiful, hallelujah, this, corpus cristi, ect

  • Dylan was a great lyricist and composer, but he was a shitty performer, this version of the song is way better

  • @BarProphet agreed.

  • fuckin tune

  • Never heard this until just now... and I can't express how good it is. It's been a favorite Dylan song of mine for a long time, but this cover is just as good if not BETTER.

  • I just love the way his voice floats across the top of the music...as if it is skimming over the chords....

  • Rest in peace Jeff Buckley.. He were the best

  • its just jesus christ resting his home on your neck

  • I haven't encountered anything in life more ethereal than this...

  • This song has been removed so many times it makes me sick.. everytime someone posts it on youtube, sony removes it.. it really is too beautiful (and especially this version) and I think it's a crime to just take this away from admirers ears..

  • @Dopje91

    So true!

  • @Dopje91 why's it been revmoved?

  • @Dopje91 i hate sony

  • Jeff Buckley had the midas touch.

  • For every time I take the pleasure of listening to his vocal, I find it to be even more captivating. The love and inspiration is so strong - I'm on a natural high. My words are inadequate. I am musically and emotionally moved and touched. Like a friend reminded me recently; we all know that Jeff Buckley didn't die, he just took a dive back into the world, that he came from.

Thank you, for the gift of music that you left behind!

    R.I.P. Brother Jeff.

  • This is the most striking opening vocal imaginable.

  • incredible

  • I have it on the Legacy edition of Grace. Highly recomended - gorgeously produced 2CD + DVD set.

  • This song is perfect

  • who would thumbs down this guy? he is completely right, except for the comment about them being friends, dylan doesnt make friends that easy.well he does, but never keeps close ones.
