  • My hands are not used to these shapes :( awesome riff though Marty!

  • Its kinda scary looking at your pinky the whole time

  • marty! you r the GURU!

  • Well you could play the whole thing in the open position, and then occasionally drop down to the high Bar E chord (7th fret) for some change up.

    Just a thought.

    Good lesson!

  • Name of the guitar!?!? PLS

  • how does he make the chickety chicky sounds when he plays.

  • @adri6000100 Its his pick I think

  • @adri6000100 he's hitting the muted strings at the bottom

  • @adri6000100 It's his pick that goes chickety chick...go to your local guitar shop and ask for one by name

  • @adri6000100 I don't know if my reply had went through or not so i;ll re-send it for sh*ts and giggles. To make that sound, dont press down fully on the cord, which makes the muted sound.

  • @adri6000100 the pick

  • @adri6000100 by ending your question with a question mark instead of a period, lol

  • your cheek is just sooo chubbyyy i wanna slap it hard! haha

  • @elbowconsumer, why wouldn't I have a taylor gs model... what do u play?

  • @TheKman1960 Its just unusual to have such a high end guitar as a beginner. Not a bad thing though, I'm jealous. I play a walden d550. does the job nicely :)

  • OMGEEEEEEE A TAYLOR!!!!!!! SO SEXAY! :DDDD

  • from spain.. GUY YOU ARE AWESOME

  • your hot. and a good teacher.

  • @omgstfu89 Yes, he is hot. Great eyes.

  • You should definitely do more acoustic tutorials.

  • Just a hint for you... when you play something slow and then speed upp, don't change what u play.. here u started hammer on and pulling off when u got up too speed, it's confusing for the ppl who learn from you because they just speed upp from going 2 runs on the 9th E string to 2 times on the 9th A string instead of "2 times on the 9th E string then h/p on the 9th Astring

  • It helps

  • show the guitar or mention the frets.

  • marty, watching, learning and liken your lessons.

one question- you say round 10 mins to take in info, but can i practice till my hand kills and fingers say no more?

  • ok. I'm a beginner. Trying to play this. It works kind of, however, my wrist hurts like shit. How do I do it better? :D

Is there maybe a better position to hold my guitar.. or.. something like this so that it wont hurt? Or will my wrist get used to it after a while?

  • @AlligatorJack01 your wrist should not be be hurting dude. experiment with using other fingers to fret the needed notes. byw, this pattern (when sped up and played in the key of C), is what carried the king himself through his carreer (Chuck Berry). the basic pattern is regular-regular-pinky move-regular, but you play it slower and go regular-pinky-regular-pinky and get the maybelline rhythm, just remember to lift your fingers after the strum.

  • @mattybock thank you buddy. I tried this pattern again yesterday and it was better than before... However, I thought Marty also tabbed the D-String with his middle finger... hadnt seen that I was actually wrong. So now it is better without having to use the middle finger.

I didnt quite understand the pattern you described.

  • Marty you are the only teacher i go to. your the best i've seen on youtube. THANKS!

  • I can't get my hand in that position.. I don't have small hands or anything, just normal. But still, I can't get my pinkie all the way over there were it needs to be and make it sound good at the same time. is there an excercise for this or something? or a little trick?

  • great lesson, very descriptive, thanks.

i have a question though. whenever i try to play this blues rhythm guitar pattern, my hand on the fretboard cramps up, my wrist hurts, and my hand feels stiff for ages afterwards. is this normal for beginners, or am i having a harder time than i need to be and i'm doing something wrong?

  • @musicbymicky it is very normal for beginners, you learn to love the ache. it usually means your on to something good. :)

  • you know he is good because he has a beard and wears a hat

  • Hi !

(I'm french so if my English is not good, please forgive me)

I wanted to ask if it is necessary to take over guitar lines or others to know how to improvise a solo? Or can you teach yourself?

    Thank you for answering (:!

  • awesome ,dude.

    give us more on here.

  • Marty..dude u are the best teacher man wicked bro

  • As a beginner in this art of of playing the blues (and I should say in this art of playng the guitar), I think the most important is try to feel the rhythm, to get it and bring it inside the hands, the head, the heart... but, above it all, feel the pleasure of playing and have fun!!!!

    Thanks Marty for your help!!!!!

  • Love you Marty!

  • I have not seen all of your videos and this is my first but really appreciate you posting these. New subscriber and friend I hope

  • Great teaching Marty, and yes, it´s your best hat.

  • give me guitar tabs of blues...

  • chuck berry used this as the rhythm of promised land. great post, but i can't quite see his finder placement, or what strings he's hitting.

  • hey Marty your an awesome teacher man!! I'm a late bloomer with seriously picking up the guitar and learning to play it. ive been playing seriously for about 2 months and I'm a 22 year old noob "guitar player" and I must say you have taught me some great stuff to start on my journey of the wooden axe! and beyond! my bro who is going into his 5 year of guitar is surprised at what I can do, because of what you have show me! a million thank yous wooot!

  • marty man thats the best of your hats

  • omg, i figured that out on my own a few weeks ago. lol (wtf, im 12)

  • @Sparta729 then why are you even looking it up?

  • People learn at different paces, kid. Just because you figured it out doesn't mean EVERYbody knows how to do it.

  • @Ryoku1989 i never said that though

  • It's the way you went about saying it, man. "wtf" gives the impression that "this is the simplest thing I've ever seen" and anybody can do this already. This is a lesson for those who can't or want to refine the skills. If it's something you don't wanna go over, look at something else.

  • @Ryoku1989 i said, "wtf"?! it was probly my guitar playing friend then. he sometimese goes on my account and hates on people that cant play very much.

  • @Sparta729 Well, kick him in the face for being a jerk. lol

  • @Sparta729 well tell your friend there is such a thing as people who are just starting into guitar me personally ive been playing guitar for a few years and im just now starting to play blues

  • just in little doses haha. so true. great videos man its so easy to learn from you

  • Thing is Marty does not teaching on next level guitar. You sign up and david teaches.

  • great job man, your teaching is really great, tnx !!

  • Marty thanks for your lessons man but I gotta say this is very difficult for me.Its quite a stretch from the fifth fret to the ninth and tough to hit it clean...but i'll work on it.You make it look so easy...

  • Marty, You are amazing...

  • Marty, every single one of your videos is awesome. You are the best teacher on the internet!!!

  • @johnnyboye11 Amen to that, bro

  • Great ... you are really good teacher, but i am so antitalent xD

  • damm your good

    thanks

  • thanks

  • my husband got me a first act kiddie guitar and said practice on this first if i can learn somethinfg on it hell get me a full size acuostic. do you think it is possible on a kiddie acoustic

  • Hey, it just my opinion, but,...I think it is important when first starting out to have at least an instrument that will enable you to feel and enjoy what you are doing. My advice is to ditch the first act guitar and spend 200.00 on a Yamaha fg 700s beginners guitars. Great sound and nice action. For the money one really cant go wrong. I spent a year goofing around on lesser guitars that were set up improperly and I think it slowed me down.. Since getting that Yamaha I am off and running!

  • @doobiescoo1 this is my first guitar! :) it's really great for a first beginners acoustic. I'd highly recommend it as well.

  • Yes, thanks for your agreement. I've played more expensive guitars that didn't even come close the sound quality and the action of this guitar. All the best to you!

  • @drn1980 If I can play the blues on a ukulele you can play it on your kiddie guitar. Its all about tuning and chord structure.

  • @drn1980 Buy one yourself and learn some independance in the process

  • @drn1980 it's certainly possible, but, it depends on what he wants you to learn. Those kiddie guitars, unless it's a really nice one, are notorious for having terrible action, going immediately out of tune and are pretty worthless. You can get your fingers strong with it, but it's an instrument to be encouraged on. Hang in there!

  • Those lifesgood commercial SUCK!

  • oh my! You're the best teacher I've ever seen! Now I work reeeeaaaalllyyyy harrrrd \m/

  • you are the best teacher ever. ^o^

  • Really good lesson Marty, thanks. I've mastered the very simple stuff, now just to speed it up and add some more to it!

  • very good lesson!

  • i've been learning guitar on my own for the past 7 years and i've always been discouraged because my female hands have a hard to reaching really good chords....practice practice practice is all i hear....really? i wish my fingers would grow

  • what guitar r u playing have you tried something with a thinner neck might help also try warming up going up and down chromatic scale dont give up ull get there

  • hey thanks for the advice! i have a Walden D600ce which i absolutely love. the neck isn't too bad either, smooth and thinner than guitars i used to play.

  • silly question but... Have you got a full size or a 3/4 guitar?

  • full size

  • Go cook.

  • real good videos and the teachers are awesome.

you're doing an awesome job over there keep it up

  • Russia's blues fans will not forget you

  • I gotta agree.... this guy is a really good teacher.

  • how in the hell are you able to get your fingers spread like that so easily? I'm struggling just with the reach :'(

    damn my noobiness.

  • lol i feel you bro

  • TheCface: I'm still not a good guitar player, but when I first started, I had so much trouble spreading my fingers that I had to actually grab my left hand fingers with my right hand and place them on the correct frets until I was able to

reach and build muscle memory. It took me a few weeks of doing this silly but effective ritual but it worked! If you keep at it you will discover that you can do it too. Stay with it and good luck!

  • Yeah.. Just keep on practicing everyday.

  • @TheCface - It honestly does come with practice! I pretty much taught myself to play almost 2 years ago, and I thought my fingers were just to fat because I would touch multiple strings. After many sessions however you start to notice little improvements everytime you pick up ur Axe. In short, KEEP AT IT! =)

  • Good Marty From Ploiesti Romania :)
