You used to be able to get mith gloves at one def. This is cause you don't need def levels to wear the gloves, you just need to do subquests of recipe for disaster, which unlock better gloves with every one. Due to a glitch, you could get to ape atoll without accepting def exp from daero. Meaning you could do another subquest and get addy gloves. They later patched this so you could get there without a glitch.

So, you don't need def lvls to wear the gloves.
