  • Haha look at that guy's will break as soon as he bellied out. face down.

  • ILLINOIS FTW!!!!!!!

  • That was not a kick a kick has to come back with some sort of wind up other. Its the same for cross faces. Notice his foot comes straight off the ground to the lower calf nothing illegal about it.

  • @Freebird2526 Kicks don't start with a wind up, I've never seen anyone wind up their leg before trying to kick me in the head, torso or leg in my years of martial arts. This could be classified as sweep AND a kick. More specifically a strikedown. A strikedown is grounding your opponent with a striking sweep or just a strike with a stance to take your opponents base out. Never the less, a good move.

  • a footsweep is just a slower leg kick.

that was just a fast footsweep.

  • Foot sweeps have been around in wrestling for ever... This is a wrestling FC

  • One of the most common throws in judo. Not a kick.

  • This isn't muay thai, guy

  • THAT WAS A KICK

  • Seriously? all you guys whining if it was a kick or not? Wow, this is wrestling the most bamf nasty sport there is. It's all part of the sport.

  • who the fuck cares if it was a kick that was some sick shit he will probably drop kick "shaveyourboots" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • who cares if it was a kick it looked cool :D

  • i love troy letters

  • i had to replay this many times.. ouch

  • Nemeth ur a stupid fuck! You fight judo??? U mean u train judo u fucking dumb truck!

  • I wrestle and fight judo and thats actually a judo sweep also you are all dumb.

  • just cuz ur a fanboy doesn't mean you've known him all your life.

  • Why do people always say Ive known that person all my life.... Sftu..your a liar.

  • so that was completely legal?

  • i call foot sweep too :)

  • ive known matt lackey all my life. ur just jealous bcuz that sweep was amazing

  • it was the side of his foot so i call sweep .. if he used his shin or the top of his foot it woulda been a

    kick ...

  • This is wrestling not bowling, it was a footsweep not a kick. Holy shit, the sport has some agression too it, maybe we should just all let our opponents down nice and soft.

  • Speaking as someone who trains in karate- where we kick the holy hell out of each others' legs on purpose- and judo- where we know how to appreciate a good foot sweep- that was a *really* good foot sweep.

  • i dunno, looked like a kick to me...

  • oh whore shit, the guy had barely any weight on that foot when he swept him, pretty sure we all would have done the same thing.

  • he kicked the sh*t out the guy that was kinda funny

  • looks like an illigal kick to me

  • Romans and greeks both did wrestling...rome took over greece and stole everything they had, history, tradition, fighting, women, etc... Ever wonder why they call it 'greco-roman wrestling'? This was 3rd grade history class people, come on!

  • That's right Illinois is the shit. I'm goin to freshmen/sophmore Illinois state saturtay. My weight class is 135

  • Illinois is the shit! Nasty footsweep

  • HOLY SHIT THAT WaS SICK

  • de ashi harai haha jkjk dont hate me

  • That was a kick, not a sweep.

  • look again bud, no hip action no wind up, side of the foot right to the A.C.T. and he elevated the leg with his foot after impact, textbook wrestling outside sweep

  • Hardly, it looked more like a kick

  • to Dggerized:

no they will not call this in junior high, it is not considered a slam because both wrestlers are on their feet. go ahead and use it, totally legal!!!

  • i tried this last year and the guy didnt fall down and i got called for it :(

  • @thizzboy99 hahaha well you got to hit it at the right time man.. if the kids foot doesnt budge then of course it looks like you kicked him.. but if he shifts the majority of his weight to one foot and you kick, his foot will go with yours looking like you 'sweeped' it right from under him.. its all about leverage and getting him off balance

  • OH DAMMMMMNNNN!!

    THIS IS BEAST!!

Do you know if they will call this in junior high wrestling?

  • Collar and Elbow wrestling footsweep! From sherdog.

  • not illegal because he did not wind up his sweep - same goes for a crossface. if you wind back your arm before a crossface, then it is illegal.

  • judgement call.

id say kick to be honest.

  • That should deff. be illegal he just kicked him in his leg! this is wrestling not karate! Wat if I punch some body and they fall is that two points?

  • this is wrestling. a very violent sport which used to be fineshed by death in the early roman days soo... drop ur sack.

  • romans?? or greeks?

lol im pretty sure Greece started wrestling considering they were before rome soo..

    drop that sac :D

  • haha sorry man i didnt mean to sound rude and yea i ment greece,

i had my head in the clouds ;)

    sorry man

  • @juanB911 wrestling was done by the romans as well dipshit

  • yeah thats awesome that you realized taht im proud of you i was just pointing out the fact that the greeks invented it.

    sooo shut up.

  • @lukemattar You mean Greek days or the Hellenistic civilization because Greece did not exist.

  • shut up it was not illegal

  • yeah it was because he pushed his head to the side as well.

  • It's legal, in my opinion, but RIGHT on the edge.

  • He didn't cross his feet, but he was out of position, obviously it happens to everyone, the vid is proof of that. As long as you use your instep to sweep, its not a kick.

  • owned?

  • Damn.

He crossed his feet for only a second and the other guy totally capitalized on it.

  • Anyone that says this move was illegal is a dope. It's a foot sweep. A very common move in wrestling. Steve Mocco made a career of it.

  • i didnt mean illegal i meant its not a great move because you might get a ref that is a bad one and he could call it illegal. so sorry for the confusion. and the chances of you getting a bad ref in college is slim to none.

  • barely leagle, beautifuly done though.

  • That is not legal. its not kick boxing its wrestling

  • lol dude your retarded of cousre its legal and its PERFECTLY excecuted learn some shit about wrestling and the rules before you start making yourself look like a retard

  • I do know stuff about wrestling. I do wrestle. depending what kind of ref you have it might be legal or not...

  • sorry, I'm going with mahern here. I won't go as far as calling you retarded, but a foot sweep like this is perfectly legal. I've seen it done a hundred times. Any ref that would call that illegal is a bad ref.

  • You have to have the proper motion and placement behind it to be called a sweep and not a kick. Essentially its like the difference between a crossface and forearm shot.

I think the criteria are done with the side of the foot, to the knee or foot, reasonable force, and brought to the mat safely. For it to be effective you're going to be doing most of those things anyway though.

  • and the winner is..... THIS GUY!

  • I can't think of one way that would be consider illegal, by any ref...ever.

  • it's the refs ultimate decision if he thinks the person was using excessive force, as if he thought he kicked him. such as when people get a single leg and kick out the other leg. ive seen someone straight up muay thai kick some guy and nearly break his ankle.

and no, i dont think that was illegal.

it was legit, and was damn nice execution.

  • FALCON KICK!!!!

  • u cant kick but u can sweep simple judo/karate sweep that was more of a kick tho it was sick lol

  • now what are the rules on how hard you can kick and when you can kick?

  • what i hear is that you cant kick you can only put you leg on theres then kick but you cant kick the guy

  • 2b4 real...i dont even kno the rules and I been wrestling since I was 14. lmbao

but either way, that was a sweet ass move. I damn near jumped on the tv when I saw that.

  • kick as hard as you want, just make it a sweep

  • cool just fuckin kick him

  • yeah we have a guy at our school

thats been doing judo since he was 5

    4 time national judo cham

when he joined wrestling he just naturally dominated

so i moved up to 119 cuz i couldn't beat him

  • lol i love the little guys XD

im guessing this kid had literally no fat on him? lean as a stick?

  • this is my cusin no even kidding he came over wednesday

  • Either Letters was unbelievably tired, or he just didn't notice it. That is not something that should happen in an N C A A championship match.

  • what the hell was Letters thinking putting his foot forward and crossing his leg like that?

  • I remember watching this match, and thinking WHAT THE HELL? Wicked slick

  • Yeah, we all remember where we were when this happened.

  • id be fucking hammered after 5 shots I couldent do it...

  • damn i sprained my ankle when a wrestler did that to me :/

  • thats my coach yeahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

  • owned

  • I always thought wrestlers were only allowed to use their upper body :o

Shows how much I don't know about the sport

  • That is greco-roman wrestling. There are 3 different types of wrestling (Collegiate/folkstyle, freestyle, greco-roman) in the US and (I think only parts, but maybe all of) Canada. On the international level there are only 2 (freestyle and greco-roman).

  • in usa we wrestle folkstyle you got join clubs to wrestle greco or freestyle..thats why were not that great at olympics..

  • i'm pretty sure thats folkstyle Mumanate

in greco-roman you can only use upper body

it was invented by the romans to emphasize brutal strength

    besides its the NCAA haha

  • My comment was a response to another comment. The one I was responding to was:

"berner (1 month ago) I always thought wrestlers were only allowed to use their upper body :o

Shows how much I don't know about the sport"

I am not entirely stupid :)

  • You're thinking of Greco Roman style wrestling.

  • i usually go for ankle picks or low singles =] they dont take as much energy

  • haha i was just at an illinois wrestling camp and he was one of the teachers there.. I got his autograph and i fooled around with him a bunch before wrestling matches cause he was a reff too and he gave me great advice and i even talked to him about this move and he showed me it hes such a beast!!

  • wow well that seemed like a kick.but still a sweep to perfection.

  • Not with the new rules it doesn't.

  • looked like a kick not a sweep , but i guess thats why hes a bad ass

  • shows you why you never cross your feet...

  • his feet weren't crossed you moron. he just timed the step. thats how a footsweep works.

  • Moron? Seemed like an appropriate comment to me. I'd rather be wrong than an %&$hole.

    Period.

  • did he like practice that. or was he like hmmm should i kick his legs out ya i guees i should cause ive never seen that before

  • its a just a sweep i used them all the time they are very common in judo

  • ya i dont do any judo but i guees ill try it in practice

  • Didnt Letters get hurt his senior year making him not able to AA?

  • I wrestled Matt in 8th grade at a tournament. Didn't look like much, but he beat me 20-4.

  • .letters was only a freshman...wow he was amazing his sophmore to senior year

  • i dont get how wrestling made it from this to that fake wwe stuff with steel chairs like wtf?

  • i know that shits retarded.

  • that was sick

  • as an illini that foot sweep/vicious ankle kick makes me proud

  • that was a very nice foot sweep. i use that move a lot myself

  • damn

  • dang

    thats all ima say too

    just dang

  • yo fuck that shit... judo can stay where it is... this is collegiate wrestling

  • troy is a punk

  • how is troy a punk? lol he doesnt even talk bad about his opponents. i guess when someones better than you i guess that makes them a punk

  • anyone know where I can find any of Lackey's other matches?

  • wow t-roys a big bitch. who the coon gets footswept?

  • "T-roy" is a fucking beast, he made it to the NCAA finals for a reason.

  • You can trace all combat moves back tens of thousands of years to the first two contestants fighting for a piece of meat. Judo, wrestling, boxing; more moves have been forgotten, lost, resurrected and reinvented than we will ever know.

  • Yep.

  • Excellent display of judo there.

  • I'm not too sure if thats Judo, they teach all wrestlers the footsweep, but its usually done out of a two on one or Russian.

  • you're right, it is taught in wrestling, but its origin is from judo.

  • Probably not. I practise judo myself, but I don't understand why the footsweep couldn't have been developed independently in the West as well.
