The cake exploded?! LOL!!! Hey, my tip is to have a seasoned cook to taste your food and critique it. (Don't take negative comments personal...remember, it's a learning process!) For me, my food taster is my Aunt whose food is so good that she used to cater out dishes and desserts. Oftentimes, when I make something that doesn't quite turn out, she can taste it and tell what needs to be altered in order to improve the results.
I keep a list of all my favorite meals and all of the ingredients. This helps me keep my kitchen stocked it also help with idea when I don't know what to cook.
My tip is if u buy meat, get it in the larger packages and separate them in zip lock bags and freeze. I buy ground turkey in the large 3 lbs packs. Put 1 lbs in each gallon zip lock and press the meat out as flat as possible. It saves so much room in the freezer. It also costs less than buying it in individual 1 lbs packs. It also defrosts faster since the meat is pressed out flat
I've learned the importance of taking note of spices, sauces & kitchen tools I have. I do a simple inventory list, so I know what I have in stock & what I need to buy. It makes getting around the kitchen easier & saves time, IMO. & thx to Monique & all the others for their great tips!
1:15, omg you are so silly, lol! Thx 4 for givin us newbies sum good tips. Cooking is all this diva needs to perfect then I'm good:) & Thx to all the others for their tips.
i thought i had this on the last video but maybe not but...where did you get your vitamins from whole foods or wal-mart...and on this video: love it and i am a beginner but im going to try somethings and keep you informed...
Great tips!! you covered it all for me. My mom taught me how to cook then I took Home Ec classes and my HE teacher was a stickler about a clean kitchen. I don't have any other tips but keep a stocked pantry with the basics. I found a basics list in a Martha stewart cookbook that helps me out. things like lemons, limes, spices, flour, sugar, beans, pasta are good to have on hand so you wont be always be running out to get them when trying a new recipe.
Oh yeah! Reviewing the recipe is so important because one time I was going to cook something and I had to wait because I needed to marinate something for a long time. Definitely review your recipe!
Awesome tips! My tip is to take notes on what you do so that you'll remember next time. I tried a delicious recipe that called for 48 oz of pasta and that was wayyyyyy too much for us so I changed up the ingredients and wrote my changes down so I'd remember next time!
girl you are just like me i wouldnt feel comfortable cooking in a unclean kitchen and yes i clean my messes as i am cooking.thanks for the other tips.
That such a cute dog too bad im scared of them lol!! My tip I give to my daughter when cooking is use the internet to you advantage there'is lots of recipe there. I also say try recreating your favorite recipes. you know what you like so if you go some place and like the cake. Start small and make the cake fosting and buy the cake mix then next try making them both from scatch!
AMEN!!! girl i cant clean unless the kitchen is clean lol my hubby and son always laugh at me and i always clean as I cook so at the end i wont have a billion dishes
I do that too! I was raised that way. Both my Mom & Nana clean as they cook. Can you imagine if you didn't & had all of those dishes waiting for you to clean after you're full?!!
If you have citrus around the house after peeling, slicing or using it instead of tossing in trash -- if u have a garbage disposal dump the used citrus in the disposal to help with any funky order with a sprinkle of baking soda.
Wow. I don't know where my other comment went, but I'll try again. I love this cooking channel and was laughing at the intent way the doggie was looking in the video.
My tip is for beginner cooks to get a basic cookbook (Southern Living Cookbook and Betty Crocker) that gives clear recipes, pictures, instructions how food should look, and substitutes chart. Once the recipes are mastered, one can take the recipe up a notch by adding ingredients and techniques.
If your recipe calls for strips of poultry , red meat or pork. Buy the boneless breast, pork loin or flank steak. Take it to the grocery butcher (EVERY GROCERY STORE HAS ONE) and get them to slice it to whatever thick/thiness you want. This way you are not paying EXTRA money for pre-sliced meat.
If you have purchased veggies such as garlic, onion, bell pepper etc...chop and slice them when you bring them home from the grocer. I tend to go ahead and chop some and slice them and bag them into ziplock bags by 1/2 cup portions and place them in the freezer. This way if I need onions, bell peppers or etc...all I have to do is go to freezer and dump get a bag or more.
As a person who also loves to cook, I have to say that I love this cooking channel. But your dog had me laughing at the intent way he was listening to the tips.
My tip would be for beginning cooks to get a good basic cookbook (Southern Living Cookbook and Betty Crocker Cookbook) that has clear recipes, pictures, instructions on how food should look, and a substitutions chart. Once mastering the recipes, one can take the recipe up a notch by adding other ingredients or techniques.
I have one tip. You have to adjust temperatures according to your oven and the type of dish you are baking in, i.e., glass, ceramics, light vs dark alumimun. With my oven I have to set it about 25 - 50 degrees lower than the recipe or it will cook to fast and burn!! I use to always burn the bottom of bread and pizzas I make until my grandma told me.
this is a wonderful idea! I'm starting to see some of these women don't know how to read and/or follow recipes so I know this will definitely be helpful!
